Hawkes goes to San Francisco for a planter's convention and, when he returns, brings back society girl Lucille Cheney (Virginia Cherrill) as his wife. Leilana is heart-broken, while Lucille becomes quickly bored with her husband and Hawaii. Her boredom ends when Chandler Morris (Hardie Albright) sails into port on his yacht and he and Lucille begin an affair. Hawks drinks to forget. He catches Lucille and Chandler together and a fight ensues, Lucille, in an effort, to save her lover throws a kerosene lamp into the ripe sugar cane and fire spreads in all directions.

Knowing von Luden's inhuman reputation, Mame transfers the photo assigning her to Dave Hart to Mary's identification card. Castro, the mail-runner, delivers a letter to von Luden informing him that his partner Hart is wanted in the United States on an embezzlement charge. To protect Mary, Mame presents herself as the job applicant while Mary is introduced to Dave and his fellow supervisors--Peter, Joe, and Bill--as a bride applicant. Dave rescues Mary from a lustful, brutish attack by von Luden. Pretty Mataeo Rogers, half-breed daughter of the camp's drunken doctor, is celebrating her 18th birthday and is lured to von Luden's jungle castle. Later, natives find her body in the swamp. Detectives Steve and Al arrive to extradite Dave.

Lutze is offended. They play poker for a plantation, Ellen, and all the pearls in the Pacific; the loser gets Poppi. Lutz has a marked deck of cards.

That night, Robert breaks into the shop's cellar where he hears strange music and voices, and sees a weird ceremony in which (the mesmerized) Zenobia officiates as a priestess. Robert is captured by the worshipers. Dawn tracks the sinister "Order of the Black Rober" but can not find a trace of Robert, Zenobia or the cultists.
