Patrick Swayze was one of the hottest actors in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Practically every movie he starred in, including Dirty Dancing and Ghost, was a blockbuster hit. He starred in the 1989 movie Road House, which since has become a cult classic. According to Av Club, it was the most-watched movie on basic cable in 2020.

Jake Gyllenhaal recently played an Mma fighter in the remake of Road House. The actor shared screen space with real-life UFC champion Conor McGregor. The film was a remake of the ‘80s classic starring Patrick Swayze and was extremely successful despite being released directly on Amazon Prime Video.
The success of the first film has reportedly led to a sequel being commissioned. Much like McGregor, another prominent athlete might just be in the running for the antagonist again, if the sequel decides to go the same route. After looking at boxer Ryan Garcia’s antics over the past few months, Road House 2 might have just found its new villain.

When images started to surface of Jake Gyllenhaal filming a UFC fight scene for the Road House remake, audiences got a glimpse at how the Doug Liman film for Amazon would differentiate itself from the original Patrick Swayze film from 1989. The consensus was that making Dalton a former professional fighter was an interesting twist that wouldn’t make the remake a complete copy of the Swayze film. However, the die-hard fans would remain skeptical. Now that the film has been released on Prime Video (along with the controversy of not being given a theatrical window), many agree that it doesn’t have the heart of the original, but there is still a division among the viewers on who may have still found it serviceable.
Despite the mixed reception, the remake was a big hit for Amazon MGM and a sequel had already been greenlit. Along with Road House‘s success,...

The 1989 action classic Road House (watch it Here) recently got a decent enough Prime Video remake that’s set to receive a sequel – which is something the original movie should have gotten around 1991 or so. But no matter what other movies use the Road House title, nothing will ever compare to that ’89 movie… which I have vivid memories of watching at a drive-in during its initial release. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of Road House, the estate of musician Jeff Healey has announced that they’re teaming up with Sony Music and Mondo Music to bring us Road House: The Lost Soundtrack, the complete, previously unreleased soundtrack that Healey recorded for the film.
Road House: The Lost Soundtrack is available to pre-order from the Jeff Healey Estate’s official website and will also be available on all major streaming platforms on June 7th, courtesy of Sony Music. This release features...

Jake Gyllenhaal pulls his glasses out of his jean jacket pocket, the Coke bottle lenses in them strong enough to correct his 20/1250 vision. Yes, you read that right. These are not Internet Boyfriend glasses, to be styled with a fuzzy cardigan and a rakish smile. These are I Literally Can’t See glasses. Looking through them with normal vision feels like being on some sort of a hallucinogenic.
Gyllenhaal, 43, has been wearing intensive corrective lenses since he was about 6. Born with a lazy eye that naturally resolved, he’s still legally blind. “I like to think it’s advantageous,” he says. “I’ve never known anything else. What are the greatest action movies of all time? It’s a controversial question, isn’t it? Any time any publication or site puts out a new list of what they consider the best action movies of all time, it can’t help but generate a ton of controversy. Nevertheless, we here at JoBlo have decided to throw our hats into the ring with a list we really hope generates some nostalgia among our viewers but also encourages them to seek out the movies on this list that they may not have seen. But first, some may wonder where superhero movies are on this list. Given how broad that genre is, we decided to stick to old-school action, so we have left them off the list, as they deserve their own ranking. There are also a few absences from the list, notably some Jackie Chan films (like Police Story), with...

7 years ago, the whole world was amazed by the story about a group of robbers who were implementing a multi-day assault on the Royal Mint of Spain in Madrid. Later Money Heist became the most-watched non-English-language series on Netflix, proving that people’s interest in heist flicks and exploration of criminals’ minds is never-ending.
The platform’s new project goes further in this respect, as instead of depicting fictional robbers it will focus on a real-life bandit, even though his crimes were cinematic and spectacular enough to be developed by Netflix’s screenwriters.
Back in the 1990s, there was a drug dealer who was always striving for more than his business was making for him. After seeing Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves’ Point Break (1991), a crime film that followed the exploits of the bank robbers’ leader, he came up with an idea to make money any other way.

Image Source: Amazon While the late Patrick Swayze will undoubtedly be remembered most for Dirty Dancing and Ghost, one of his personal favorites — and one that has picked up a sizable following over the years — was Road House. The 1989 film, which spawned a remake (starring Jake Gyllenhaal) that was released earlier this year, featured Swayze as a bouncer at a small-town bar in Missouri. At the time of the film’s original release, Swayze said he was attracted to the role because he could identify not only with the character, but also with that small-town way of life. Whoopi Goldberg accepted her role in Tony Goldwyn’s Ezra without reading the script. The actors knew each other from co-starring in 1990’s Ghost.
“If he says he’s got something, I don’t care how other people respond to it, I’m there,” Goldberg said of Goldwyn during Tuesday’s episode of The View, where the actor appeared as a guest alongside Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne.
Goldberg played Oda Mae Brown, the medium who communicates with Patrick Swayze’s spirit, in Ghost (she won an Oscar for the role). Goldwyn was the antagonist, Carl Bruner, and Goldberg said this week he is a “wonderful partner.”
In Ezra, Goldberg plays the manager of Cannavale’s character, a stand-up comedian struggling to co-parent his autistic son. Byrne, Robert DeNiro, Rainn Wilson and others round out the cast. Goldwyn directed the movie, and also has a small part onscreen. The project...

10. Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing (1987)
Dirty Dancing is one of those movies that actually move people to write “most iconic movie couples” lists; not that we’re speaking from experience, of course. Demi Moore says she’s intrigued by Channing Tatum’s plans to remake the 1990 Oscar-winning film, Ghost.
The film grossed $506 million at the global box office and won two Oscars at the 1991 Academy Awards — one for Best Original Screenplay, and the other for Whoopi Goldberg’s supporting performance.
Moore spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the potential remake.
“Look, every story, in some ways, has already been told. The wonderful thing is the different way things can be reinterpreted,” Moore said. “I think there are some films that often are better left not touched, and left, and then sometimes there are wonderful surprises in that reinterpretation.”
Tatum has not spoken to Moore about his plans. “No, he hasn’t,” but added, “He’s super talented. I’d be curious to see what he decides to do.”

As everyone knows, Tom Cruise leads an action-packed life akin to that of a movie star. The actor enjoys a good thrill, and he performs almost all of his own stunts. And it was his dedication that led him to accept one of his most prominent roles, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, in the 1986 action flick Top Gun.
So, in the case of this Paramount Pictures film, the actor had an unusual demand that ultimately saved the film from disaster. Well, after a less-than-ideal experience working with director Ridley Scott on the movie Legend, Cruise was understandably cautious about committing to a new project.
When producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer approached him with the script for Top Gun, Cruise liked it but felt that it “needed some work”.

The Oscar-winning screenwriter says he has always been gay, but is only now going public. At 81, he reflects on LSD, gurus and falling out with Whoopi Goldberg
When Bruce Joel Rubin was writing Ghost, he didn’t think about the Oscars it might win or the money it would make (more than $500m). Instead, he drew on an intimate moment from his past. When Molly, played by Demi Moore, tells her boyfriend Sam (Patrick Swayze) that she loves him, all he can say in return is: “Ditto.” Back in his college days, Rubin was the ditto guy, unable to echo his then-girlfriend’s heartfelt sentiment. But for an unusual reason: he was gay.
“I’ve never not been gay,” says the genial 81-year-old from his home in a leafy part of upstate New York, where the trees are crowding at the window behind him. “I am fully gay, and I always knew it.

Fred Roos, the longtime producing and casting collaborator of Francis Ford Coppola, has died at age 89.
Roos famously found Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford, launching both actors’ respective careers, and even helped cast Carrie Fisher alongside Ford in “Star Wars.” He is credited for also boosting the careers of Kirsten Dunst, Diane Keaton, Laurence Fishburne, Frederic Forest, Diane Lane, Nicolas Cage, Richard Dreyfuss, Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Jennifer Connelly, Billy Bob Thorton, Marshall Bell, and more.
Roos later served as the casting director for Coppola’s “The Godfather,” leading auteur Coppola to deem Roos “one of the great casting talents in the last 40 years of American movies” in a 2004 interview with the Chicago Tribune.

Fred Roos, the casting director turned producer who jump-started the career of Jack Nicholson and collaborated often with Francis Ford Coppola, sharing a best picture Oscar with the filmmaker for The Godfather Part II, has died. He was 89.
Roos died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills, a publicist announced.
It’s part of Hollywood lore that before Harrison Ford became a famous actor, he was laboring as a carpenter to make ends meet. What some might not know is that it was at Roos’ house where Ford was woodworking when the casting director befriended him, eventually pushing him for roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977) and Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).
And it was Roos who convinced Lucas — who had been leaning toward Amy Irving — that Carrie Fisher should portray Princess Leia in Star Wars. (Roos did not have an official role on that film.)

Demi Moore was one of the members of the Hollywood group The Brat Pack, a bunch of Hollywood actors who broke out in acting and started together in coming-of-age films in the 90s. She rose to prominence with the 1990 supernatural romance film Ghost. When it was released in January of 2001, Richard Kelly's bleak time-travel psychological drama "Donnie Darko" caused a notable stir. The title character, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a teen struggling with schizophrenia in 1988, a time when Reagan's great Conservative revolution was drawing to a close and adults clung to suburban conformity as it crumbled under them. Donnie is obsessed with time-travel and regularly hallucinates a vicious, strange anthropomorphic rabbit monster named Frank (all while attempting to socialize at school and foster a romance with a classmate played by Jena Malone). Patrick Swayze appears as a cheesy self-self guru, Drew Barrymore plays one of Donnie's teachers, and Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Donnie's sister.
By turns psychedelic and weirdly moving (in a Goth sort of way), "Donnie Darko" quickly became a cult hit and rotated directly into the local midnight movie circuit, attracting a wide swath of misfits and night people.

As a child actor, he gained prominence in the role of Homer Hickam in 1999’s October Sky. The young actor would go on to star in one of the most influential films of the 2000s Donnie Darko.

Pure intentions never come a long way when it comes to achieving stardom in Hollywood. John Wick star John Leguizamo seems to understand that but while the actor may hold a cynical view of the industry due to time spent behind the curtains, there exist some things (perhaps a movie role or odd jobs to pay oneʼs way through surviving as a struggling artist) that he imagines as simply being too awkward to be uttered in public.

Such a protective cushion frequently comes into use when the actor brings up his fellow co-stars in the industry and serves to spill some tea about their roles that some still view as divisive beyond reproach.

Leading up to Sabrina Carpenter’s Saturday Night Live debut this weekend, and host Jake Gyllenhaal’s return, the pair teamed up with Bowen Yang to tease the upcoming season finale.
In the video, in seeming reference to her sun-kissed hit song “Espresso,” Yang exclaims: “Sabrina, your song is stuck in my head!” After the cast member proceeds to sing, “Summertime is coming everybody is into board shorts,” Carpenter gently informs him that it’s not her song.
Regardless, Gyllenhaal joins Yang’s enthusiam as they declare, “Board Shorts Summer!

One of the hardest things to pull off in the movie industry? A remake of a golden classic that doesn’t get immediately torpedoed by furious critics and Og fans. Few directors have managed such a feat, and it wasn’t the case with this largely hated 2024 action thriller. Half of its viewers hated it, but the other half has an ace up its sleeve: Stephen King’s personal endorsement of this controversial remake.
Even Jake Gyllenhaal Couldn’t Save This Remake
The original Road House came out in 1989, starring Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott and directed by Rowdy Herrington. The movie wasn’t too gracefully received by the critics, but the audience enjoyed it — and as it often happens in such cases, Road House later became a cult classic. You know what Hollywood does to cult classics from the 80s, don’t you?
In 2024, a modern remake by Doug Liman hit the screens.

Netflix has teamed up with Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow for a harrowing ticking-clock thriller.
The streamer has greenlit a film centered on a group of White House officials scrambling to deal with an incoming missile attack on the U.S.
Sources say the story will be told in real time and that its tone harkens back to Bigelow’s foreboding 2012 hit Zero Dark Thirty, which chronicled the hunt for Osama bin Laden and the Navy Seal mission to kill the terror leader.
Netflix wouldn’t confirm any details about the project, merely announcing an untitled Bigalow movie at their upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City on Wednesday.
The film — along with a Happy Gilmore sequel announced today — is the first movie greenlit by the streamer’s new film division head Dan Lin. However, the film’s development began during the division’s previous regime led by Scott Stuber,...

Not Dead Yet was canceled after the second season, and this network's decision probably resonates with the impressions of most fans. While the first season drew viewers to their screens thanks to a successful mix of personal stories of the characters and a supernatural aspect with ghosts from obituaries, the second season disappointed many fans – it became a workplace sitcom and lost almost all of its charm.
But for Not Dead Yet fans, it's not time to get upset yet – because there is another sitcom about spirits that, let's face it, is superior to the series with Gina Rodriguez in every way. And this series is Ghosts.
What is Ghosts About?
The plot of Ghosts revolves around an old mansion that is unexpectedly inherited by the main characters – a couple from New York. The initial joy at the sudden gift of fate is replaced by an unexpected circumstance – the house...

In 1989, the legendary Patrick Swayze starred in the original Road House movie. The movie has achieved cult status in the meantime, and while the 2006 sequel was panned by critics, Amazon decided to remake the movie, which was released earlier this year to mixed reviews, but it seems that the fans were more than satisfied, as a sequel has been announced by Amazon, with the first film’s main star, Jake Gyllenhaal set to reprise his role in the sequel. We’re certain that this sequel won’t repeat the failure of the original sequel, but it remains to be seen how well Amazon is going to execute it.
The first movie was released in March 2024, and the critics on Rotten Tomatoes have agreed that “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.”

Sound the bells y’all! It seems like Round 2 of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House is just around the corner. Coming from the house of Amazon MGM Studios, the movie was considered by the executives a hit, garnering over 80 million views in a very short span of time. This success has seen the studio back the movie for another rodeo as they have already announced that a sequel is in the works. But the creators would be wise to steer clear of a few facets that the first movie got wrong.

Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor, was a remake of the 1989 movie of the same name. The Og Road House was quite the phenomenon, with Patrick Swayze essaying the role of Patrick Dalton, the protagonist.

It's official: "Road House" is getting a sequel. Not the original Patrick Swayze classic from the '80s, mind you. Rather, the recent Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake that premiered earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video is getting a follow-up. Amazon has confirmed that "Road House 2" (which does not officially have a title) is in the works, with Gyllenhaal due to reprise his role as Dalton. Little else has been revealed but the company wasted little time in getting the project going.

“Road House” is getting a sequel.
During the Amazon MGM Studios upfronts, a follow-up to the streaming-only remake was announced with Jake Gyllenhaal reprising his lead role of a former UFC fighter turned bouncer.
According to Amazon, “Road House” had nearly 80 million worldwide viewers to-date after premiering on Prime Video March 21. The feature had a record-breaking over 50 million worldwide viewers over its first two weekends, becoming Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched film debut ever on a worldwide basis.
Yet not all went smoothly with the “Road House” rollout. Director Doug Liman announced that he was boycotting the premiere due to the lack of a theatrical run, and original “Road House” screenwriter R. Lance Hill announced he was planning on suing Amazon for allegedly using AI to complete the remake before the rights to the original film reverted back to him.
“Road House” originally starred late actor Patrick Swayze in the role that Gyllenhaal reimagined.

The copyright battle over Road House and this year’s remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor has turned into a full-on bare-knuckle legal brawl.
If R. Lance Hill, who penned the original 1986 script under the moniker David Lee Henry, thought in his February filing that he was going to bop Amazon Studios, MGM Studios and United Artists over “blatant copyright infringement” – he just got smacked back, hard.

A legal brawl is underway over the Road House remake, with MGM Studios bringing counterclaims against the original film’s screenwriter over the rights to the 1986 screenplay that spawned the movie.
In a countersuit filed on Friday in California federal court, the studio and its parent, Amazon, accuse Hill of fraud for lying to the U.S. Copyright Office that he’s the true author of the screenplay and can take advantage of a provision in copyright law that allows him and other similarly-situated writers to reclaim the rights to past works.
Marc Toberoff, a lawyer for Hill, said in a statement that the fraud claim is “baseless deflection.” He added that he “informed the Copyright Office that this matter is in dispute and would be the subject of litigation.”

After playing the role of James Dalton in the cult-classic film Road House, Patrick Swayze moved on to other career opportunities. Fresh off the action film and moving away from the image Dirty Dancing painted of him, the actor starred in a movie that would change his image in the film industry in the best of ways. The actor joined the cast of Point Break, the film that put Keanu Reeves on the map.

While there is no doubt that the movie turned into a classic, it seems that the filming was not as smooth as many would think. As the actor revealed, there were multiple occasions during filming where he almost died. All because of his dedication to his craft.

We recently ranked the movies of the late, great Patrick Swayze, and the film that came in at number 1 was Kathryn Bigelow's high-octane action pic "Point Break." It's hard to argue with that result: "Point Break" absolutely rules from beginning to end. In Bigelow's 1991 classic, Keanu Reeves plays an FBI agent who goes undercover as a surfer. Sounds silly, right? Well, stick with me. There's a gang of thrill-seeking surfers who moonlight as bank robbers, and Reeves figures he can get close to them by learning to surf. Okay, yes, it does sound silly. And yet, the movie absolutely rules and rips and rocks.
Patrick Swayze plays Bodhi, the very zen leader of the bank robbers who forms a bond with Reeves' character. There's a lot to love about the film, and Swayze's performance is at the top of the list. As it turns out, filming the stunt-heavy "Point Break...

The film would tell the story of one of the great comic actors of his generation. Getting his start in the second heyday of Saturday Night Live, where Farley would join an ensemble of all-time SNL greats including Adam Sandler,...

One cannot underestimate the enormity of Jerry Zucker's "Ghost" when it was released in 1990. In the film, Molly (Demi Moore) and Sam (Patrick Swayze) are a well-to-do couple in New York who are very, very much in love. Despite their closeness, not to mention their sexual chemistry, Sam cannot entirely commit, replying only with "ditto" when Molly says "I love you." When Sam is murdered by muggers, he returns to Molly as a ghost, using a medium named Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) to communicate. Can Sam figure out the rules of the afterlife in time to express his undying love for Molly?
"Ghost" was made for a modest $22 million, but made over half a billion dollars worldwide. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Oscars for Whoopi Goldberg and Bruce Joel Rubin, its screenwriter. "Ghost" was a juggernaut, and it's unusual that it...

Francis Ford Coppola's miraculous 1970s run of "The Godfather," "The Conversation," "The Godfather Part II" and "Apocalypse Now" came crashing to a hubristic halt in 1982 when his backlot musical "One from the Heart," produced at his recently purchased Zoetrope Studios in the heart of Hollywood, bombed upon release. Poor reviews and audience indifference resulted in a paltry $637,000 gross against a $26 million budget, thus killing his dream of an artist-driven mini-community.
The magnitude of the film's failure meant Coppola would have to lower his sights for the time being, and make films with more straightforward commercial appeal as a means of paying off his debts. It was a shockingly precipitous fall, one that left his many admirers worried that he'd become more of a paycheck-to-paycheck director. This happened eventually, but for a time he was able to stoke his creative fire even if he was making movies that weren't as...

Exclusive: No decision has been made official, but sources tell Deadline that New Line is the favorite to land the package that is based on the biography The Chris Farley Show with Paul Walter Hauser attached to play the legendary comedian. For as long as “teenager” has been a demographic, there have been stories about teens breaking free from the status quo. While a lot of the modern great teen rebellion media is confined to the world of TV — where shows like “Euphoria” attract constant buzz — the archetypal troubled teen story remains 1955’s “Rebel Without a Cause.” Starring James Dean in unquestionably his defining role, a rebellious teen struggling with his demons in L.A., Nicholas Ray’s film spoke to young people at the time with its story of high schoolers struggling with, and going against, the social pressures that bring them down. Over the years it became a touchstone because its themes and its honesty transcends generations.
As the teen film has evolved and morphed as a genre, there’s always been room for stories of iconoclastic youth who don’t fit in with the status quo. Oftentimes, these...

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, and he has pushed his creative limits since he broke into the industry. It was apparent in spades in the psychological thriller, Donnie Darko, with Richard Kelly at its helm, with the role winning him accolades.
Since its release in 2001, the film has become quite popular among film buffs, and it has gained a bit of a cult following. The plot takes the viewers on a ride right off the bat. However, there was one scene, so gruesome, that even the director could not add to the director’s cut.
