Every now and then, you come across a celebrity video that has fallen into obscurity that is well worth (re)discovering. Well, dear reader, this week, we’d like to present to you a video of Steven Seagal selling you wine — straight from the depths of 1990. And yes, it is far better than that same year’s Hard to Kill.
The video, which was part of Celebrity Guide to Wine, also features Seagal’s then-wife Kelly LeBrock, who appears coming home late, apologizing for the traffic. She asks, “The usual?” to Steven Seagal before reaching for a bottle of wine that she continuously, uh, handles, like somebody who has never held a bottle of wine before. “This better be good,” he says – and you know just what he means…Hey, even now-washed-up actors could be subtle once in a while…

Bill Paxton was an incredibly nice man who excelled at playing world-class jerks. He popped in small roles in Franc Roddam's "The Lords of Discipline" and Walter Hill's "Streets of Fire" before getting to strut his smug stuff as Chet, the world's worst big brother, in John Hughes' "Weird Science." From there, Paxton was off and running. Hudson in "Aliens" and Severen in "Near Dark" are two of the most quotable heels of the 1980s. Then he segued to hugely sympathetic leading man roles in films as diverse as Carl Franklin's southern fried neo-noir "One False Move" and Jan De Bont's mega-blockbuster "Twister."
Whether he was playing a swaggeringly vicious vampire or a naive, eager-to-please police chief, Paxton drew us in. He made bold choices, which gave every scene a charge because we never knew how he'd play any given moment. He was a mischief-maker in this regard.

Back in the 1980s, plenty of young actors knew they’d made it in Hollywood when they were cast in a John Hughes movie. And many of them wound up appearing in several of his films, becoming part of the so-called “Brat Pack.” Anthony Michael Hall was one of those actors who emerged as part of […]

John Hughes' 1985 sci-fi sex comedy is, true to its title, something of an oddity. The premise of the movie is clearly cut from the adolescent sex fantasies of a teenage boy: Using a super-advanced computer system, a power source stolen from the government, and other common everyday objects around the house, a pair of high school horndogs (Ilan Mitchell-Smith and Anthony Michael Hall) manage to electrically manifest The Ultimate Woman to serve their every desire. Their creation, Lisa (Kelly LeBrock), in addition to being a tall, gorgeous adult, also possesses bizarre magical powers, and she is able to conjure cars out of thin air....

1990 was a big year for Steven Seagal. After blasting his way to fame in Above the Law, Seagal had two movies open to boffo box office in 1990. First there was Hard to Kill, which paired him with future wife Kelly LeBrock, while 1990's Marked For Death, the only film he made away from Warner Bros in his heyday, was an even bigger cult success. To this day, it's considered one of the pony-tailed one's greatest films, with it pairing him against a Rastafarian…...

The Twilight Zone Season 2 Episode 2
From The Matrix to Vanilla Sky and several, several Philip K. Dick novels, the notion that our lives are a perpetual dream fueled by technology, is a science fiction staple. Usually, this distinction is fairly binary: There’s a real-world, and a dream world, and once you figure that out, your entire world view changes. But, in the second episode of the new Twilight Zone’s second season, it’s not about taking the red pill or the blue pill. Instead, in “Downtime,” there’s a third concept: What if our virtual avatars went on without us?
All great Twilight Zone episodes have a twist, and, arguably, the twist for “Downtime,” comes pretty quickly. Newly promoted hotel manager Michelle (Morena Baccarin) quickly learns that she is not actually Michelle, but instead, a virtual avatar created by a man...

Woo Hoo! We’re girl-starved teen nerds, and we’re cooking up our own living sex toy with our home computers! John Hughes turns an infantile idea into one of his not-bad teen angst comedies, as Kelly LeBrock materializes to fulfill their wildest dreams. The idea is of course transformed into a basically benign coming-of age story … with the underlying message that we’d not all mind having Ms. LeBrock reformat our hard drive. It all begins as a bad arrested-development joke, but Hughes’ audaciousness and fine production values make this a nostalgic favorite for folk that miss their (ugh) 1980s memories.

If you can’t get a date… make one! After proving himself the king of heartfelt teen flicks with Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, writer-director John Hughes infused the genre with a hefty dose of whacked-out sci-fi comedy in Weird Science, a film where every teenage boy’s wildest fantasies come to life.
Perennially picked-on high school nerds Gary and Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) are sick of their status at the bottom of the social food chain. Using Wyatt’s computer, the two hatch a plan to create their dream woman – and following a massive power surge, that woman unexpectedly appears in the form of Lisa (Kelly LeBrock). Something is piping small, cat-sized penguins into the middle of a small-town field in “Penguin Highway,” an irresistibly out-there mystery that plays like a cross between “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “Stranger Things,” if either of those influences’ sense of horror were replaced with wonder, and their weird happenings took place in broad daylight rather than more atmospheric darkness. Here, while most of the locals scratch their head in puzzlement, a booksmart kid named Aoyama (Kana Kita) has half a dozen hypotheses — perhaps they’re abandoned pets, or maybe they’re crows “that have undergone a sudden mutation to become fat” — and takes it upon himself to investigate.
An impressive first feature from director Hiroyasu Ishida, “Penguin Highway” sticks to the big-eyed, fine-limbed aesthetic seen in most adult-targeted anime, but fleshes out the characters at the screenplay level, such that the entire enterprise stands apart — a notch better...

At the outset of “I Feel Pretty,” Amy Schumer plays a woman who doesn’t believe she’s beautiful. If you agree with her, then the comedian’s high-concept body-image satire — in which a nasty concussion gives her supposedly schlubby character an empowering shot of self-confidence — is liable to be hilarious. If, on the other hand, you accept that real women have curves, then this full-frontal takedown of the fashion industry’s impossible beauty standards actually feels quite tragic, since the on-fire actress comes across as trying way too hard to convince herself of what anyone can plainly see: that she’s amazing.
Unfortunately for many American women — but conceivably good for the movie’s box office chances — contemporary audiences have been so corrupted by heavily airbrushed magazine spreads, surgically enhanced supermodels, and unrealistically proportioned porn stars that they’ll readily accept Schumer as a dowdy fixer-upper. In a fearless move,...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... The Goldbergs is one of the best shows on TV and if you're not watching... what are you waiting for!? It's so good! The nostalgia aspect of the series is what resonates with me most.
One of the things the series does that I love is when it features themed episodes that are inspired by classic 80s movies. Over the years they've played with The Breakfast Club, The Karate Kid, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Dirty Dancing, The Goonies, Say Anything, A Christmas Story, Knight Rider, Misery, and Commando.
Now according to Goldbergs star Wendi McLendon-Covey, the Season 5 premiere will be a Weird Science-themed episode! I love that movie and I'm so excited that The Goldbergs is going to get a whole episode that pays tribute to the classic John Hughes movie.

The former artistic director of the Royal Court recalls the great actor who ‘lived his socialism by repeatedly giving to others’
• Gene Wilder remembered by Kelly Le Brock

I first met Alan when I started running the Royal Court in the late 1990s. Despite how incredibly busy he was, he offered himself to me as a kind of generous lieutenant, ready to fight on behalf of the theatre, or sought to give focused and insightful encouragement. You need people like that.
When I became aware that he actually played this role for multitudes of people it didn’t diminish how lucky I felt. In fact, earlier this year, when I was called to his hospital bedside days before he died, to [prepare to]direct his memorial, I realised what an impossible task it would be to include the massive range of...

30 years ago today, two geeks from Shermer, Illinois created Lisa, the perfect woman, with a little computer know-how. That's right, "Weird Science" came out exactly three decades ago and was the third film John Hughes stepped behind the camera for as director, following "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles." The flick was also the fourth time Hughes had worked with star Anthony Michael Hall, who appeared in both of the aforementioned films, as well as the Hughes-penned "Vacation." Fun fact: Hall reportedly chose this flick over doing a "Vacation" sequel -- thus starting a franchise tradition of switching the actors playing the Griswold children each film. Joining Hall were Ilan Mitchell-Smith and Kelly LeBrock, a former model who turned her sights towards acting. "Weird Science" went on to become a cult classic and spawned a USA series of the same name, with Vanessa Angel taking over the role of Lisa.

StreamFix is your weekly update on the best and weirdest streams happening on Netflix, Crackle, Amazon, and Hulu. You dig it? Check out these happenin' spectacles now. Netflix "Kingpin" This is just a reminder that Bill Murray was up to some weird stuff in the middle to late '90s. "Kingpin" is raucous and watchable, but God, remember "Larger Than Life"? Elephant humor, folks! What about "The Man Who Knew Too Little"? Or "Wild Things"? Or -- oh yes -- "Space Jam"? Thank God he gave us "Rushmore" because that filmography was getting grim. "Babes in Toyland" I command you to embrace the holiday spirit and revisit this 1961 classic with Ray Bolger and Annette Funicello. No, it's not the Laurel and Hardy version, but it features Ann Jillian of the perfect '80s sitcom "It's a Living" as Bo Peep. "Doug Benson: Doug Dynasty" And now, ladies and gentlemen, my...

You know the songs. They’re part of the songbook of standards. You’ve heard them on every TV singing contest, belted out by a cut price Leona Lewis to the back of a chair while Sir Tom Jones mouths the words to show that he too recognises a famous classic. You’ve endured them slurringly stumbled over and shouted at every drunken karaoke session. Even if you think they’re terrible music (and with reasonable justification in some cases) you secretly know all the words. You’ve seen them used on so many inspirational or romantic montages that they’re more likely to be used in parodic moments nowadays than anything vaguely genuine, but have you seen the movies that they come from?

In honor of the 2014 summer movie season, Team HitFix will be delivering a mini-series of articles flashing back to key summers from years past. There will be one each month, diving into the marquee events of the era, their impact on the writer and their implications on today's multiplex culture. We continue today with a look back at the summer of 1984. I turned 14 on May 26, 1984, just as the summer movie season was getting started. These days, the summer movie season seems to begin in mid-March, and I think it's because studios want real estate that they can own. And it feels like the appetite for event films is something the audience has year-round now, so if you're able to make something that excites the audience, why not find a place for it where it's not going head to head with all the other giant event films of the year? For the purposes of this piece,...

To mark the upcoming release of Bad Neighbours, we've decided to compile what we think are the wildest movie house parties of all time. Zac Efron and his frat buddies would be hard-pressed to beat some of these, although there's no doubt they'd down some booze and give it a good go.
Take a look at Digital Spy's cream of the crop below...
Animal House (1978)
This is where it all started, the house party to end (or inspire) all house parties. The toga party that featured in the 1978 classic Animal House has been recreated numerous times in both film and real life, proving just how awesome this bash really was. With an amazing performance of 'Shout' by Otis Day and the Knights and plenty of John Belushi, how could this not have made the list?

It’s almost five years to the day that Seth Rogen last hosted “Saturday Night Live.” (Somewhat amusingly, his “Neighbors” co-star Zac Efron hosted the very next week.) Meanwhile, over the last five episodes, “SNL” itself has survived a rather rocky start to the post-Seth Meyers Era with a string of solid albeit non-classic episodes after the Jim Parsons-hosted debacle. Heading into its final break of the season, it will be interesting to see if the show ends on an upswing or downswing heading into the final stretch of this flawed yet fascinating season. As always, I’ll be liveblogging, assigning grades to each segment. As always, those grades are designed in a lab to make the maximum number of people on the internet angry. They couldn’t possibly be an inherently imperfect way for one person to sum up his or her thoughts about a sketch comedy show in real time.

Two high school nerds are amazed when their perfect virtual woman comes to life (in the pneumatic form of Kelly LeBrock) in John Hughes' ever-popular comedy fantasy. Once the butt of every practical joke going, Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) are suddenly the coolest kids in class. But with a mind as wicked as her body, their creation Lisa is determined to have her fun too.

Few things rival the unabashed excitement people have for the 1980s — a time when everyone was dreaming of the future and anything seemed possible. Audio-visual remix artist Ian Edgar traveled back in time to the decadent decade and created a one-hour supercut that celebrates the music, movies and imagery of the time period. It’s basically one long club mix on steroids, but one you’d actually buy (on cassette, even, since we’re feeling nostalgic and everything). Film fans will instantly recognize the movies featured throughout. There’s the famous “Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!" scene from Beverly Hills Cop. We also get snippets of Kelly LeBrock’s Lisa from Weird Science wrangling adoring geeks...

Spike Jonze enters the world of cybersex with a curiously detached satire
As far as sci-fi cinema is concerned, there's nothing unusual about falling in love with a computer or conjuring your perfect partner from a keyboard. In the Frankenstein-inspired 80s teen comedy Weird Science, two teenagers brought dream girl Kelly LeBrock to life by wiring a Barbie doll to a computer, while Electric Dreams placed an operating system named Edgar in the middle of a love triangle with a musical twist. Harrison Ford's Deckard didn't seem to know whether he was human or robotic as he fell in love with a replicant in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. And in Andrew Niccol's S1m0ne, a film director creates a supposedly compliant virtual movie star with whom the whole world promptly becomes infatuated, forcing him into a lifelong relationship that begets digital children. Ah, the perm. A remnant of ’70s and ’80s “fashion” that we can be glad to have left behind. But have we really let go of the perm? With Bradley Cooper sporting an impressive man-perm in American Hustle recently, a nostalgia has been sparked for the admittedly stupid, but strangely endearing, hairstyle.
In the ’80s, when it came to perms the motto was “bigger is better” and everyone from the obvious Dolly Partons and Chers of the world to the more innocuous Shannen Dohertys and Julia Robertses was sporting artificial curls. Anyone who was anyone tried out a perm at one time or another. Even those with naturally curly or wavy hair would perm it up for a more manicured curl — the most obvious giveaway being the vertiginousness of their new, curated curls. The brave would then tease on top of it (hello, Kelly LeBrock!). Hell, if...

Kelly LeBrock may have miscalculated. The star of the cult-classic 1985 teen comedy Weird Science was arrested last month on suspicion of driving under the influence, the bust occurring in Santa Barbara following a routine traffic stop. Per an arrest report obtained by E! News from California Highway Patrol, LeBrock was pulled over on the night of Nov. 30 after an officer observed her white Mercedes failing to stop at a stop sign, straddling double yellow lines and going faster than the posted 55 mph speed limit. The officer detected signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety tests, the results of which led him to believe that LeBrock was under the influence of alcohol, the report...

Wait, Crop Tops on dudes were cool?
Apparently some people thought so. It really wasn’t out of the ordinary to catch a guy sporting a belly shirt in an ’80s movie, especially if said movie had a workout scene or some type of nod to sports. Shawn ‘Liberal Dead’ Savage pitched this idea to me a few weeks back, and we started tossing names back and forth to each other. Some of the memories were clouded, though. We’d throw a couple of titles into the field, only to search it out and discover that we were wrong as shit. But we got some heavy hitters, for sure. I always found half shirts to be pretty damn sexy on a lady. On a dude, it just looks kinda weird. However, 9 times out of 10, the man with enough nerve to wear one was either a hottie or at least popular.

The 1980s were pretty much the Golden Age of teen cinema, as far as I’m concerned. They were able to perfectly capture all of our hormonal angst and package it in a way that still holds up to repeated viewings decades later. But for some reason, I always hear the same few movies mentioned over and over again. Pretty in Pink. Say Anything. The Breakfast Club. St Elmos Fire. Sixteen Candles.
Those films are great and all, but there’s so many other movies from that period that are deserving of our attention. The movies on this list might not be the most obscure films of the 80s, but they’re ones that I feel have been given the proverbial shaft in terms of widespread recognition. Some are better known than others, but they’re all awesome films that have earned the right to have their names mentioned alongside the greats.

John Hughes is best known for expertly crafting tales of adolescent growing pains in movies like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. His 1985 fantasy sci-fi hybrid Weird Science was another one of his '80s teen flicks but since it isn't as frequently referenced as the other movies in his considerably successful oeuvre, it makes sense that someone would be tempted to remake it.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the movie's original producer Joel Silver is doing just that and with Michael Bacall on script duties, considering he's penned Project X and the surprise hit remake of 21 Jump Street, expect something a lot racier and explicit than Hughes' version. Weird Science is all hormones and wish fulfillment as it tells of two unpopular, nerdy boys (Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith) who conspire to use their considerable brain power to create the perfect woman (Kelly LeBrock) who turns...
