Uma Thurman will recur as Lenny Cohen, "the ultimate fixer" in the scripted My So Called Wife TV show, coming to Bravo next year. Thurman's other TV series work includes The Slap, which ended last year after one season on NBC. She also recurred as Rebecca Duvall in the first season of Smash, which was cancelled by NBC after two seasons, in 2013.My So Called Wife (working title) stars Inbar Lavi as Maddie, whom Bravo says is, "...a persona shifting con-artist who is as beautiful as she is dangerous, which makes her unsuspecting victims even more tormented when they realize they have been used and robbed of everything... including their hearts." The cast also includes Rob Heaps, Parker Young, and Stephen Bishop.Read...

Tonight in Los Angeles they're holding the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. I'm not familiar with this organization but this is apparently their fifth year. Two Oscar nominees, actor Eric Roberts (who has a small but key role in the upcoming Inherent Vice) and songwriter Stephen Bishop (Remember "Separative Lives" that duet from White Nights?), are among the handful of hosts and performances will include Antonio Sanchez (interviewed right here) performing a section of his all drum score for Birdman and Gregg Alexander doing "Lost Stars" from Begin Again (clearly the song to beat at this point but we wish they'd push for two nominations in that category because the whole soundtrack is so good).
But will any of this tell us anything about Oscar? [More...]...

One of our favorite writers, Dennis Cozzalio, is with us again for today's Saturday Matinee. Dennis, not coincidentally, presides over one of our favorite film blogs, Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule. The occasion is the premiere of Allan Arkush's commentary for John Landis' Animal House which will run this coming Monday. Dennis happened to be an extra on the film so we asked him to share his experiences. We're also pleased to present some rare production stills courtesy of Katherine Wilson, the movie's local casting director in Oregon. Enjoy! Eugene, Oregon, Fall 1977. I was a first-term freshman trying to squeak out at least a 3.0 Gpa my first time at bat at the University of Oregon. I had enrolled in the film studies department, officially proclaiming it my major, fully expecting to broaden my horizons by seeing a lot of films to which I had never had the opportunity to be exposed.

USA Network's Royal Pains is bulking up for its upcoming fifth season. The summer drama has added American Horror Story's Frances Conroy for a multiple-episode arc, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Additionally, Smallville alum Callum Blue will recur and Stephen Bishop, Kevin Kilner and Liza Lapira will guest star on the Mark Feuerstein series. When Gavin DeGraw was attacked for no obviously apparent reason on the streets of New York’s East Village last month, it was hard not to flash back to that famous scene from “National Lampoon’s Animal House” where John Belushi beat up Stephen Bishop for the mere crime of being a sensitive singer/songwriter. DeGraw definitely has a female-friendly reputation as a lover, not a fighter. But he’s got more moxie than his image might suggest. On his new album, “Sweeter,” DeGraw is never exactly pugilistic, but that outer sweetness definitely masks some...

I’m just gonna say it… We Like To Party, but even we can’t party as hard as the Wolfpack! Alan, Stu and Phil are bringing the party back to theaters this Thursday with The Hangover Part II, so we thought, what better way to ring in the party than to count down our favorite party animals!
These are the cool kids that bring the party! They rage, they get down… heck, they might even get “jiggy wit it”! Sure, they might not be from the fluorescent box of crayons, but these folks can MacGyver a good time out of a paper clip, a broomstick and a Nelson cassette. (Yep, I said it!)
So, without further adeu…

You ever notice how, when it gets down to the end of the year, there's all this stuff you said you'd do/planned to do that hasn't happened yet and gets squeezed into the remaining few weeks so that you don't feel like a complete failure? That's about where I am now as my friends and I get ready to go our separate ways for Christmas and are busily trying to schedule time to hang out around when everyone has stuff due/is leaving. It's both enjoyable and slightly stressful. Anyway, if you're not busy trying to stuff in all those "I'm going to [blank] in 2010!" declarations in tonight, here's what you can watch on TV as you reflect on your failure:
8:00pm: "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS
"The Sing-Off" on NBC
"Skating with the Stars" on ABC
"WWE: Raw" on USA

A survey of 6,000 British adults conducted by Travelodge found that eight out of 10 Britons rely on music to help them fall asleep at the end of the day. Coldplay tops the list of most turned-to artists, followed by Michael Bublé, Snow Patrol, Alicia Keys, Jack Johnson, Taylor Swift, Mozart, Barry White, Leona Lewis, and Radiohead. Even more interestingly, a quarter of adults surveyed reported they fall asleep listening to their iPod and they have a specific sleep-inducing playlist. What’s your nighttime entertainment sleep aid?

- Hollywood, you don't need to remake every significant foreign film, especially those which the English-language version won't have any wide appeal than the original. Case in point: a redo of Departures, which won the Oscar a couple years ago, probably won't have any more explosions, vampires or twist endings than the Japanese film did.
- Fans of last year's acclaimed Chilean film The Maid have something new to look forward to from director Sebastian Silva, a more universal work titled Old Cats, about an elderly couple that gets a potentially lucrative visit from their daughter and her girlfriend.
- Stephen Bishop will play former outfielder David Justice in the adaptation of Moneyball. If he knows what's good for him, he'll prepare for the role by going out with Halle Berry -- though I doubt she'll want to relive the experience.

It's strange to think about, but it's been a year since Steven Soderbergh got kicked off the production of Michael Lewis' Moneyball and Aaron Sorkin was hired to rewrite the script. Since then, the film has continued to experience delays, though, at the same time, picked up an all-star cast of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright and Jonah Hill to act alongside Brad Pitt. The film is finally set to start filming this month, but doing so will require them to fill out their cast a bit more, and some of the characters that need casting will be Oakland Athletics players from the 2002, the start of the Billy Beane era. Turns out David Justice is the first one to be cast. THR reports that actor Stephen Bishop has signed on to play the outfielder in the film to be directed by Bennett Miller. Primarily a TV actor, working on shows...

Stephen Bishop will join Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, and Philip Seymour Hoffman in Moneyball, playing David Justice in the baseball film based on Michael Lewis’ 2003 book about the the Oakland Athletics’ Billy Beane’s “strategy for building a successful team without paying players enormous salaries.” Didn’t Kevin Costner figure that out already? In five short days, the four remaining contestants of American Idol's ninth season will hit the stage and tackle "Songs of the Cinema" under the watchful eye of guest mentor Jamie Foxx. Still, judging from the list of 34 potential genre tracks Idol has posted on iTunes (and listed after the jump), the theme could just as easily be called Tragic Treacle Week. I mean, come on now, how are these cats supposed to sound "current" or "relevant" tackling tracks like "Eye of the Tiger" or "Beauty and the Beast" or that Tina Turner jam with the word "Thunderdome" in it?...

"American Idol" announced during the Top 5 results show that the next theme would be Songs of the Cinema and the mentor would be one Jamie Foxx of "Ray" fame. He was also last year's Rat Pack theme mentor.
We were initially trepidatious about this theme because in the past it has yielded many bad performances of "Against All Odds," but then we remembered Paige Miles' debacle and felt relieved that we wouldn't have to sit through that song again. The worry came back, however, when we saw this week's list of song choices.
"Idol" might as well have called this Cheesy '80s Songs week or Kenny Loggins Songs week. The list is like six songs long and most of them are completely unusable by the Idols for various reasons -- there's nothing to be done but karaoke (most of the list), other Idols have killed them ("Over the Rainbow,...

Jamie Foxx will serve as American Idol’s celebrity mentor next week, as he takes hopefuls through their ’songs of the cinema.’
No, you’re not mistaken, Jamie was on the show last year too….in 2009 he mentored the final five hopefuls for their rat pack themed week. In top 7 week last year the show also ran with the movie songs theme and we find ourselves wishing that Idol bosses would come up with an original idea/theme/mentor….just for once!
The approved list of songs (via iTunes) is a diverse one with four Disney tunes alone. We can see Crystal performing ‘Moon River’ with Lee taking on ‘Kiss From A Rose.’ We’d love to hear your son suggestions, so leave your comments below.
“(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” by Bryan Adams

If you were to take a look back at some of the Scenes (Songs) We Love that I have written over time, you might start to notice that I sometimes have some strange taste in music. Well if you didn't think so before, you probably will today, because I am about to share my secret shame with the world: Stephen Bishop's It Might Be You from the 1982 romantic comedy Tootsie is one of my all time favorite love songs -- no irony, no nostalgia, I just straight up love this song.
The song was the love theme to the story of the struggling actor Michael Dorsey, (Dustin Hoffman) who auditions for a role on a soap opera while pretending to be woman, but once he gets the part, he realizes he's going to have to keep up the act. Of course things become even more complicated when Michael/Dorothy...
