At the time of its premiere, Brooklyn Nine-Nine immediately became a phenomenon in the comedy world. The show can be thought of as the Friends of our time. No, the characters do not live in the same apartment, but they work in the same precinct and navigate their personal and professional lives. The show's humor made it a cult favorite, and even nearly three years after it ended, we can't forget how funny the character interactions were, many of which were the result of witty ad-libs. Let's take a look at 10 of the most memorable Brooklyn Nine-Nine moments that were completely unscripted.

Stephanie Beatriz is opening up about a recent reunion she had with the Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast which they used to remember their late co-star André Braugher.
The actor died in December 2023 at the age of 61 following a brief illness. Beatriz and her former co-stars, such as Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, and Chelsea Peretti, saw each other in March to remember Braugher.
“[It was] a chance for all of us to get together and make each other laugh,” Beatriz told People about the reunion. “And it was also a chance to talk about André. It came up immediately, and then we put it away for a while.”
She continued, “But at the end of the dinner, by the end, we were all just sharing stories about him and our memories of him. And he lives in our hearts forever and ever.”

Chelsea Peretti posted reunion photos on Instagram with the show’s other stars: Dirk Blocker, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Joel McKinnon Miller, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero, and Andy Samberg.
Of course, it was keenly felt that Andre Braugher was missing. The actor who played Capt. Raymond Holt died unexpectedly in December.

As the ’80s came to a close, so too did the first wave of the slasher cycle. While they would continue to be produced into the next decade, 1989 was the last gasp of a dying genre. Returning franchises and hopeful upstarts alike struggled to make an impact. We all know you can never really kill a slasher, but it would take Scream‘s reinvention of the concept in 1996 to renew broad interest.
Cutting Class, another ’89 entry in the subgenre, marked the directorial debut — and, as it turned out, sole directorial effort — from Rospo Pallenberg, who notably co-wrote Excalibur, contributed uncredited rewrites on Exorcist II: The Heretic, and served as a “creative associate” on Deliverance. Despite his pedigree, Pallenberg did not write the script; that was the work of Steve Slavkin, who would go on to create Nickelodeon’s pivotal series Salute Your Shorts.

Andre Braugher’s cause of death has been revealed to be lung cancer, his rep has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Braugher died Monday at 61 after what his rep then said was a “brief illness.”
He starred as master interrogator Det. Frank Pembleton on NBC’s Homicide: Life on the Street for the first six seasons of the show’s acclaimed run, then played another cop, Capt. Raymond Holt — this time against type and for laughs — on the 2013-21 Fox-nbc sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
He won his first Emmy in 1998 for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Homicide after a season that featured one of its most memorable episodes, “Subway.” That was a two-hander in which Pembleton tries to unearth whether a man (Vincent D’Onofrio) pinned between a Baltimore subway train and the platform was pushed onto the track — while also trying to comfort him in his dying moments.

Last year, Amazon closed an $8.5 billion acquisition of the film studio MGM, giving them ownership of the studio’s thousands of films and TV shows. Earlier this year, we heard that Poltergeist was one of the six MGM properties Amazon was most interested in doing something with… and now Variety has discovered that a Poltergeist TV series is in early development at Amazon MGM Studios! There are no plot details to share at this time, but Variety has been told “the show will be set within the world of the film”.
Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are set to executive produce the series for Amblin Television.

The eight-season run of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" was quite a ride. Premiering in 2013, the workplace comedy about the NYPD's 99th precinct capped its first season with surprise Golden Globe wins for best comedy and best television actor in a musical or comedy series for star Andy Samberg. The show continued to receive critical acclaim but never topped the television ratings, leading Fox to cancel the series just shy of its fifth season finale. Due in large part to the outcry from loyal fans, NBC swept in the next day and picked up the quirky comedy for an additional three seasons.
After an extended hiatus due to Covid-19, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" resumed production in a world shaken by anti-police protests following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. Of course, it all had to end with one last heist. Brooklyn Nine-Nine said goodbye on Thursday with one final installment of the annual Halloween heist, and it obviously had to be the most complicated and twist-filled heist of them all. Jake (Andy Samberg) had decided to leave the precinct to be a stay-at-home dad, and planned the whole heist to be a goodbye to the squad, complete with sentimental gifts for everyone. But at the same time, Holt (Andre Braugher) was planning his own goodbye and Amy (Melissa Fumero) was planning a surprise goodbye party for Jake, turning the whole thing into a chaotic, memory-filled mess that was eventually won by none other than Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker). The eighth and final season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” opens by immediately establishing that it will, in fact, be taking place in our pandemic reality rather than sidestepping it for convenience’s sake. First, a masked Jake (Andy Samberg) and Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) demonstrate their solution for socially distanced high-fives involving broom handles and rubber gloves. Then, their taciturn coworker Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) throws them into further chaos by announcing that she’s quitting, a choice she later chalks up to the George Floyd protests making police brutality too big an issue for her to ignore anymore.
With that twist, the show makes plain that it won’t be dodging the thorny questions of ethics in policing that last summer’s protests pushed to the forefront — at least not for this one episode.

The doors at Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s 99th precinct will close after the Summer Olympics after NBC gave the final season of the comedy the “coveted” post-games slot.
The Andy Samberg-fronted police comedy is ending after eight seasons and the ten-episode run will air after the games in Tokyo.
Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, called the Universal Television series a “beloved show”. “It will launch in August, coming out of the Summer Olympics, which is a coveted slot. We can think of nothing more deserving than giving it to the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. NBC is giving the final run of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” an Olympics-sized lead-in. NBC said Friday morning that the final 10-episode season of the cop comedy will premiere in August during Tokyo Olympics.
The Games, which were postponed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, are scheduled for July 23-Aug. 8. Japan is dealing with another surge of the virus, though officials are confident the Games can be held safely.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” last aired in early 2020.
The upcoming finale will mark the second ending for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” following its brief cancellation by Fox after Season 5. NBC then picked up the show amid a fan campaign to save the series.
The series was supposed to return last fall to finish its run. Star Terry Crews has said the show’s writers chose to start from scratch on the new season after public outcry over the death of George Floyd at the hands of police.

The doors at the 99th precinct are set to close, again, with Brooklyn Nine-Nine coming to an end with its upcoming eighth season.
NBC has revealed that the Andy Samberg-fronted police comedy will be ending during the 2021-22 broadcast season, bringing its fairytale resurrection to a close.
The show, produced by Universal Television, originally ran for five seasons on Fox before it was cancelled but NBC picked up the show for a sixth season that aired in 2019. Season seven aired in spring 2020 and the eighth season was renewed three months before season seven premiered.
Production on season eight, which will be comprised of ten episodes, was hit by the pandemic but Samberg said that he expects them to be back on set “fairly soon”. The earliest the show will return is fall 2021, meaning that the comedy will not have aired a season during the 2020-21 season.

Season 7 of the cop comedy isn’t set to premiere until Feb. 6 2020, but the network has already seen fit to order an eighth season.
During season 6 (its first on NBC after being canceled by Fox in 2018), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” averaged a 1.2 rating and 3.2 million viewers overall in Live+Same Day ratings, according to Nielsen, which was up 15% in total sets of eyeballs versus the prior season on Fox.
After 35 days of linear and digital delayed viewing last season, the show grew to a 3.1 rating in 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers overall, according to NBC.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” stars Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Dirk Blocker and Joel McKinnon Miller. Many fans were sad to see the back of Chelsea Peretti, who exited the show in the fourth episode of season 6.
