- I went to Hollywood in the mid-'50s, and I would say I went out there a little too early. It was an incredible amount of attention, and I wasn't quite mature enough psychologically and emotionally for [it].
- I want to keep on making movies. I consider them a very important medium, one of the best there is, a marvelous art to work with. It's a wonderful opportunity to explore. Most of all, I want to work in movies that have meaning and importance. What a great influence for good, for better understanding between people, movies can be. To be a part of this I don't think there is anything more exciting.
- I know that I have been depicted as a hot-headed, violent sort of fellow. I have never considered myself that, I don't to this day, and I don't think I ever will. I think I have one unfortunate incident which is not indicative of me at all, but a special circumstance in which I think the meekest man in the world might have reacted as I did.
