“Binge-watching” is a relatively recent addition to our vocabulary, thanks to 24/7 streaming TV channels, but the concept itself isn’t new. On summer weekends in the 1970s, drive-in theatres offered the same opportunity for immersing yourself in cheap, all-night entertainment. There, you’d binge not on multiple episodes of “Peacemaker” or “Walking Dead” but instead on their Disco-era equivalent: triple or quadruple features of B-Westerns, soft-core sex comedies starring ex-Playboy Centerfolds, Kung-fu imports, and populist vigilante dramas.
Back then, one film on the bill in scratchy, tinny celluloid might have been “God’s Gun,” starring Lee Van Cleef. In the 1976 Western, now available on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber, an outlaw gang led by Sam Clayton (Jack Palance) sweeps into town, demolishes the saloon owned by pretty Jenny (Sybil Danning), and kills a man at the poker table. Jenny is furious when...

Born Patricia Alma O’Connell in 1928, Pat Hitchcock appeared in many of her father’s films and his eponymous ’50s TV show.
In 1939, the family moved to Los Angeles. After her father’s Hollywood career took off, Hitchcock wanted to become an actress.
He helped her find a role in the Broadway production of Solitaire in 1942. Two years later, she played the title role in the play Violet on Broadway.
Starting about 1950, she had small roles in several of his films, beginning with Stage Fright.
In early 1949, her parents went back to London to make Stage Fright, Hitchcock’s first British-made feature since decamping to Hollywood. Because she bore a resemblance to the film’s star, Jane Wyman, her father asked if she...

He was a teen idol during the 1970’s. Every young girl wanted his pictures in magazines like Teen Beat. He was a child actor who continued acting into his twenties. He was also a rock star. Problems with drugs led him down the wrong path and into legal trouble for decades. Yet, Leif Garrett rebounded several times over the past few decades with music, acting and satirizing his problems with the law. This year, Garrett published his autobiography “Idol Truth”. Whatever happened to Leif Garrett? Early Life and Career Leif Garrett was born on November 8, 1961 in Hollywood, California.

I can’t get enough of those murderous, irascible brats; The Bad Seed (1956) started it for me, and then those weirdo, virginal birth alien kids from Village of the Damned (1960) sealed the deal – kids can’t be trusted. This brings us back to the ‘70s, and before we get to wee Damien, we’re babysitting Devil Times Five (1974), a thriller that goes from low-key creepy to wtf over the span of 88 minutes.
Originally released as Peopletoys in May, it was re-released in June as The Horrible House on the Hill, and then re-re-released in October of ’76 as Devil Times Five. This indecisiveness is par for the course of this production as original (and credited) director Sean MacGregor (Gentle Savage) was booted from the project for only coughing up 38 minutes of usable footage, and veteran producer David Sheldon (Grizzly) was brought in to overhaul and finish things up. Fort Lauderdale, Fla – He was the heart throb-iest of the teen heart throbs when he came onto the scene in the early 1970s. David Cassidy was the driving force of the manufactured-for-tv pop act The Partridge Family, which provided a soundtrack for their era. Cassidy died in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 67, on November 21st, 2017.
David Cassidy fought the demons of his sudden fame for virtually the rest of his life after the Partridge Family era, admitting an alcohol problem after being arrested for a DUI in 2013. Earlier this year, he announced that he was living with non-Alzheimer’s dementia, which ran in his family. But during the burst of infamy he had in the early 1970s, there was no greater beloved pin-up teen than Cassidy, who ushered in a parade of dreamy 1970s boys like Donny Osmond, Vincent Van Patten, Leif Garrett and his half brother, Shaun Cassidy.

Spirit Of ’76 screens Wednesday night January 6th at Schlafly Bottleworks at 8pm
You never know what’s brewing at Webster University’s Strange Brew Film series, and this month, you’ll be able to go back in time – 40 years to a decade you probably never wanted to revisit. In Spirit Of ’76 (made in 1990), time travelers traveling to 1776 get inadvertently dropped in 1976 instead. Hilarity, bell bottoms and leisure suits ensue. Spirit Of ’76 used to play on cable a lot in the early ‘90s but I haven’t seen it in years. It’s one of those forgotten classics that, for some reason, has been forgotten (I guess that’s why they call it a ‘forgotten classic’). It’s silly and cheesy but I remember much of the humor being spot-on. One of my favorite aspects of the film are all the cameos…...

Film Nerd 2.0 is an ongoing series in which we explore the ways we share media with our kids, particularly those of us who grew up deeply in love with movies. The media landscape has changed completely, and parents need to be more engaged than ever in what their kids watch and what they take from that entertainment. "Daddy, why did the Karate Kid Johnny die?" When "The Outsiders" was released in 1983, I was 13, and I already dearly loved the S.E. Hinton novel. It's melodramatic as hell, but that's how it feels to be a teenager, no matter what era you're talking about. I may not have had to deal with Socs or Greasers, but navigating the turbulent emotional landscape of adolescence was something that informed every line of Hinton's book. Francis Ford Coppola's film is burnished and beautiful, and it featured a young cast made up of actors on...

Cheerleader Camp (1989)
Directed By: John Quinn
Written By: David Lee Fein, R.L. O’Keiff
Starring: Betsy Russell (Alison), Leif Garrett (Brent), Lucinda Dickey (Cory), Lorrie Griffin (Bonnie), George Buck Flower (Pop), Travis McKenna (Timmy), Teri Weigel (Pamela), Rebecca Ferratti (Theresa Salazar), Vickie Benson (Ms. Tipton), Jeff Prettyman (Sheriff Poucher), Krista Pflanzer (Suzy)
“Cheerleader Camp”, which has the alternate title “Bloody Pompoms”, is much better than some of the later slasher fare I have seen. The slasher boom was in the early 1980s but by the time the late 80s came around it seems the ideas were thin.
“Cheerleader Camp” feels like a strange version of “Friday the 13th” in many aspects. While I do like the movie as a whole, it does have its issues. It could also be that I have a soft spot for slasher films as they were the first...

When she was a junior at Princeton, Brooke Shields fell in love with a future Superman. And though they ultimately never married, the Blue Lagoon star did eventually decide that she and Dean Cain should consummate their relationship after years of dating. In her new memoir, There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me, Shields opens up about the way in which her mom affected pretty much every area of her life, not least of them dating and romance. "She loved that I had briefly dated John Travolta, Jimmy McNichol, Leif Garrett, Scott Baio and John Kennedy," she wrote of her mother and manager Teri, who "trusted that I would keep my vow of chastity." Let’s be honest, puberty isn’t kind to any of us. Weird things happen to chins, hair gets fuzzy, voices get squeaky and deepen (especially awkward if you’re a girl). But it’s normal! As non-celebrity civilians, we learn to develop stellar personalities to distract from the acne and move on with our lives. Not so easy for child stars. For kids and teens whose careers depend on their adorability factor — who can support their entire family for a year with their dimples — losing their cutie-pie good looks can be disastrous. Look at The Brady Bunch’s Susan Olsen. As Cindy Brady, the lisping daughter with the boing-boing blonde curls, she was a star. But sadly, she grew up to look like a tough-but-lovable bartender in a biker-themed pub in San Fran. Or Tevin Campbell, who was prom-date-perfect as a tween/teen R&B hottie.

He was a teen idol of his day, and now, Leif Garrett has some advice for Justin Bieber about dealing with his superstar status.
In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday (August 20), Mr. Garrett, who was one of the 1970’s biggest heartthrobs offered the Biebs the following tip, “Do not believe your own publicity. Sussing out who your real friends are is full-time work. Every scum bag, every drug dealer, every chicken hawk wants a piece of you.”
Speaking of the pitfalls of teen stardom, the “When I Think of You” crooner explained, “When you’ve got that sort of power at that young age, and everything at your doorstep, you put out that bad boy image.”
Leif continued, “At that age, testosterone, hormones, all of the money, you see what else you can get away with. Justin is also doing a lot of charity work.”...

Former teen idol Leif Garrett has some advice for Justin Bieber: Don't believe your own publicity.

"When you’ve got that sort of power at that young age, and everything at your doorstep, you put out that bad boy image,...

Leif Garrett knows a little something about what it's look to a major star when you're young -- and how it can all go terribly wrong.
In a new interview with FoxNews.com, the former heartthrob admitted that he knows what it's like to be Justin Bieber and offered the Biebs a bit of advice. "Do not believe your own publicity," Garrett warned. "Sussing out who your real friends are is full-time work. Every scum bag, every drug dealer, every chicken hawk wants a piece of you.

Leif Garrett has a message for Justin Bieber: Don't buy into your own hype. Oh, and that Bieber is apparently a much-sought after commodity among men interested in sweet young boy-meat. Leif Garrett knows what Justin Bieber is going through. But the 1970s-era teen idol hopes that Bieber ends up avoiding what he went through. "Do not believe your own publicity," the now 51-year-old actor warned Bieber in an interview with FoxNews.com when asked if he had any advice for the 19-year-old heartthrob. One of the best things about horror film posters is the obligatory tagline. Some of them are catchy and increase your interest in watching the film, others are silly, some are unforgivably campy, and others are outright ridiculous. The best horror film poster blurbs, however, are typically a blend of all the aforementioned components. Many of our favorite taglines are almost a lampoon of themselves, but somehow, that has become part of the magic. It’s almost as if the worse the pun, the better the audience response. The heyday of the outlandish promo blurb was at its height when the slasher film was at its peak, but that’s not to say that contemporary horror cinema hasn’t brought us some dandies. With that in mind, we present to you 20 of our most favorite horror poster taglines from the 1970s to present. House "Horror has found a new home.

The fantastic thing about the VHS years is that the poster art was frequently hand drawn and frequently had very little or nothing to do with the actual film. If you picked a film based solely on the box cover, you had a pretty good chance of being disappointed or at least surprised. Distributors seemed to see a snazzy box cover as a good way to get some mileage out of a subpar film. That still goes on today, but it seems to happen less frequently and the artwork just isn’t the same. In spite of the trickery that duped more than a couple of horror fans in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, there are some terrific and legitimate films that have terribly misleading – albeit awesome – cover art. Forthat reason, we present to you ten shining examples of awesomely misleading film artwork. Chopping Mall If you were to take...

In 1983, Francis Ford Coppola had plenty of greatness under his belt from The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather: Part II and Apocalypse Now, but some may say 1982's One from the Heart was the beginning of the end... at least the end of the Coppola we came to know in the '70s. Sure, The Godfather: Part III saw seven Oscar nominations, but ask anyone and they're sure to point it out as the weakest of the trilogy by a mile. Films such as Peggy Sue Got Married, Dracula and even The Rainmaker aren't half-bad and I'll happily admit to loving 90% of Tetro, but the Coppola star doesn't shine as it once did. Such a situation can result in films being forgotten, overlooked and never revisited again. The lack of appreciation for the last 30 years of Coppola's directorial career has allowed me to easily avoid -- wrongly or not --...

If you’ve listened to the newest Foycast, then you’ve already heard me discuss in detail the 1981 obscurity Longshot - the world’s only foosball movie. Odds are you’ll never see this film, but in this B-Sides you can experience the magic of its title song and dramatic final shot.
In Foycast Xiii: Marching into Madness, I dissected Longshot in more detail than probably anyone has in over 30 years. For those that haven’t listened, what we’re talking about here is a coming-of-age underdog sports flick based around the game of foosball. Yes, foosball. Someone actually made a foosball movie.
Longshot was directed by E.W. Swackhamer and starred past-his-prime teen idol Leif Garrett as a California dude who wanted to go to Europe with his best friend to become soccer players because they knew nobody in America gave a damn about soccer in 1981. But before they can go become Euro soccer sensations,...

A sporting new March Madness edition of the Foycast has arrived, and you didn’t even have to wait half a year for it. If you’re into schlocky, obscure, offbeat sports flicks, then this edition will be a treat for you. The Karate Kid goes diving! Leif Garrett plays foosball! Post-apocalyptic snooker pool!
Plus there's much, much more of the rambling nonsense you’ve come to expect.
I’m joined by Matt Fini for a special Foycast primarily about a pair of obscure, one-of-a-kind, underdog sports movies that must be seen to be believed. Fini and I spend about 20 minutes unleashing our mutual admiration society for the little-seen gem Diving In. What’s Diving In, why do we both love it, why should you see it, and why does it deserve more recognition than it gets? You’ll have to listen and find out.

Brad Pitt's Chanel No. 5 commercial has gotten him plenty of press, but it hasn't all been good. The Oscar-nominated actor's performance in the black-and-white ad has proved excellent fodder for spoofs, including one starring a pooch that does the good-looking actor proud.
"It's not a walk. Every walk ends, but we go on. The stick flies and we chase after it. Training disappears, instincts take over. But wherever I fetch, there you are. My wag, my treat, my belly rub. Kennel No. 5. Adorable," the dog's voiceover says.
But that adorable mutt isn't the only one to get his Chanel No. 5-mockery on. "Saturday Night Live," "Conan" and Leif Garrett all had their own ideas of to make Pitt's commercial better. Check out all four hilarious videos below.

Brad Pitt’s Chanel No. 5 commercial – with his nonsensical rambling (“The world turns and we turn with it.”) and his unnerving stare — is ripe for parody. Taran Killam skewered the commercial on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live (“I can just start making up words… Bittalicious.”), but he’s not the only one to have done so. Check out five other parodies we loved, then vote for your favorite below!
1. Conan O’Brien: “It’s even stranger than I remembered.”
2. Paul from the Today Network: “What’s next, Russell Crowe?”

Celebrities pitching products is nothing new. Most of the time, the commercials come and go with most of us barely noticing. Other times, they're so unintentionally hilarious that they're worth taking a moment to watch. That's where Zac Efron comes in. Starring in this jeans commercial with a decidedly hip-hop Fast and the Furious theme to it, Efron stares menacingly into the camera and busts a move following a street race. Brad Pitt recently starred in a Chanel No. 5 spot, spouting random existential dialogue that begged to be parodied. Leif Garrett, who isn't exactly busy right now, took the time to film an excellent parody of Pitt's ad. Additionally, SNL found the ad too good to refuse and did a spoof of it themselves. We've included all...

Everyone from Conan O'Brien to Leif Garrett has spoofed Brad Pitt's strange ads for Chanel No. 5 -- and we would be disappointed if Saturday Night Live didn't join the fray.
Indeed, NBC's sketch-comedy show parodied the much-maligned commercials in a series of ads on its Saturday night broadcast.

The Brad Pitt Chanel commercial spoofs just keep rolling in. Not long after the Moneyball star showed up in a black-and-white commercial for the luxury brand, speaking softly and looking pensively around an empty room, celebs like Conan O' Brien and Leif Garrett put their spin on the now infamous ad. And it was only a matter of time before Saturday Night Live got in on the fun. In four separate parodies of the fashion house's commercial, SNL star Taran Killam gives a spot on impression of Pitt, even sporting a Pitt-esque thick beard and shaggy wig for the occasion. Happy Friday, my fellow fans of Leif Garrett and World’s Dumbest! In response to Brad Pitt’s trippy new ad for Chanel No. 5 — which became instant fodder for the wrath of certain late-night comics — Meetinghouse Productions, the folks who bring you the long-running truTV hit, have introduced their own hilariously earnest version, starring Garrett waxing philosophical about Night Ranger, naked dreams and the most important thing mankind has ever done … So who’s more likely to convince you to shell out some serious cash to smell like fay-tuh and luck-kuh, ladies — Pitt or Garrett? In the interest of full disclosure, I was one of the approximately 40 bazillion teenage girls who plastered their bedroom walls with posters of Leif Garrett throughout the ’70s and ’80s. In fact, I had it so bad for the sleepy-eyed, flaxen-haired heartthrob that my best bud and I would spend hours throwing suction-tip darts at the images and smooching whichever one we hit. So when I finally scored an interview with Garrett, Channel Guide‘s copy chief, Jill, encouraged me not to share that particular story — or as she sagely put it, “Don’t lead with the crazy.” I [...]...

It’s been kind of a ’70s flashback week here at Channel Guide. One of my compatriots, Lori, got to finally interview her teenage crush Leif Garrett, while I got to screen Syfy’s latest original movie, Bigfoot, which casts Barry Williams of The Brady Bunch and Danny Bonaduce of The Partridge Family. And in a way, the film somewhat resembles, in plot, anyway, one of those ’70s “nature strikes back” movies that had an environmental message. Of course, it’s filled with the usual Syfy cheese, too. Bigfoot takes place in Deadwood, South Dakota, where Bonaduce plays an obnoxious radio host (not [...]...

The Walking Tall Trilogy (DVD) Directed by: Phil Karlson / Earl Bellamy / Jack Starrett Starring: Joe Don Baker / Bo Svenson Advertised as the “original revenge film,” Walking Tall is a '70s classic that I’m not sure would appeal to today’s audience even though there seems to be a resurgence in the popularity of heroes in revenge films with films like Taken. The movie was popular enough to spawn two sequels in the '70s, a television movie, a television series (albeit short-lived) and eventually a remake with its own two direct-to-dvd sequels. This review covers the '70s theatrical films that have been released as a trilogy in a single package. When Walking Tall was originally released in 1973, I was only eleven years old, but for some reason, I have a strong memory of this film’s impact. The movie was R-rated, so neither I nor any of...

Leif Garrett's been battling substance abuse problems for years, which is why he took part in Season 4 of 'Celebrity Rehab.' However, he stormed out of the Pasadena Recovey Center, later telling 'The Los Angeles' Times that producers encouraged him to relapse for dramatic purposes.
Last night Bob Forrest and Rachel Uchitel checked up on Garrett as part of 'Celebrity Rehab Revisited' (Sun., 9Pm Et on VH1) and things did not go too well. Garret told the pair that he'd been taking lots of painkillers following a serious motorcycle accident, and then he admitted dabbling in marijuana and booze.
That's when Bob criticized Garrett's "cavalier and laissez-faire attitude toward alcohol," which did not sit well with the former teen idol. Saying "I really do not appreciate it," Garrett walked out. Again.

But when we saw footage of Miley Cyrus doing her studded leather and Crest White Strips shimmy to the song during a recent concert and, well, a new bar was set. Cyrus, of course, has more vocal chops, but her karaoke party blitz through the tune effectively stripped it of every ounce of angst or aggression, replacing the original's intent with peppy cheerleader charm.
Are there worse ones? Yes, this awful effort by high school kids is generally considered to be the bottom of the "Teen Spirit" barrel, as tuneless as it is offbeat, but they're kids,...
