- TriviaOn May 31, 1968, while playing for the New York Mets, Goossen broke up a possible perfect game by St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Larry Jaster when Goossen singled with two out in the bottom of the 8th inning. Goossen was a reserve catcher and first baseman, and his best year in baseball came in 1969, with the Seattle Pilots, in their only major league season. Goossen hit .309 with 10 home runs in only 139 at-bats for the Pilots. Late in his baseball career Goossen was traded by the Washington Senators to Philadelphia in exchange for Curt Flood, whose lawsuit for free agency was pending against Major League Baseball.
