After popping up on our list of Best Undistributed Movies way back in 2015, Santiago Mitre’s “Paulina” is finally bound for a theatrical release. The winner of the Nespresso Grand Prix Award and the Fipresci Award at Cannes Critics’ Week in 2015, as well as eight Best Actress awards given to star Dolores Fonzi, the film is a timely social thriller with massive implications.
A bit of a remake of Daniel Tinayre’s “La Patota” (1960) and is billed as “a complex exploration of the ethics of political action and a provocative character study of a social justice activist – and her unsettling choices in the face of violence and social discrimination. Set in a racially and politically marginalized community in Argentina’s Northeast, the film tackles the moral ambiguities of those who seek to aid and ally themselves with the disadvantaged from their positions of privilege.”

You don’t expect to come away from a Broadway show covered in blood, but that’s what some theatergoers are complaining about at “American Psycho.” The musical, which is based on Bret Easton Ellis‘ cult 1991 novel and the subsequent film starring Christian Bale, began previews March 24 prior to an official opening April 21 at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. However, guests are already saying the onstage serial killer horror is too realistic as they are getting splattered with (fake) blood when Benjamin Walker‘s killer Patrick Bateman slays his victims on stage. Before American Psycho came out, 25 years ago this month, it was already the most controversial novel of the Nineties. Its vivid depictions of gruesome murders of women, men, children and animals preceded wherever it went. The original publisher dropped it and told author Bret Easton Ellis to keep the money — but to please go away. The New York Times titled its book review "Snuff This Book!" On the opposite coast, Los Angeles Times begrudgingly wrote that "Free Speech Protects Even an 'American Psycho.'" The National Organization of Women attempted to organize boycotts.

Let's try to cover everything we haven't mentioned lately (whew). The biggest and most obvious is that Sofia Coppola, whose plans to follow up Bling Ring with a live action Little Mermaid are no more, is now supposedly working on a remake of the Clint Eastwood romantic drama The Beguiled (1971). The film will star two darlings of Tfe Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst. Plus Elle Fanning so Coppola already sold all the tickets to our crowd. The Clint role is as yet uncast. They're said to be looking for a 'Chris Pratt' type but what this surely calls for is a watch of the original film to familiarize ourselves.

Lately, Ron Howard has been tackling genres not especially known for making the easiest box office bank. The very underrated "Rush" arrived last year, and in just a few months he'll reteam with Chris Hemsworth, travel back in time and get out on open water with "In The Heart Of Sea." Can the duo make it work this time? Well, a new trailer is here, and you're going to need a bigger boat. Co-starring Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw and Benjamin Walker, the movie tells the true story that inspired Herman Melville's masterpiece "Moby Dick." And while Hemsworth isn't playing Queequeq (we'd pay to see that), he does play a hearty sailor who leads everyone else in battling the giant whale who looks like it could flip the entire ship just by flicking tail (in case you're wondering, Whishaw plays the writer). So, battling Loki, saving the internet next month in "Blackhat,...

I never pictured Ron Howard as much of a Roland Emmerich guy, but that's the unexpected spirit exploding off the trailer for his latest film, "In the Heart of the Sea." The film tells the true story the American whaleship "Essex" and its ill-fated run-in with a mighty sperm whale in November 1820. The story became the basis for Herman Melville's contemplative novel "Moby Dick." Howard's version of the story looks more like that time the Kraken ate Jack Sparrow, a beefed up, seafaring 'Apollo 13.' That's not bad thing. Staring Chris Hemsworth as First Mate Owen Chase, the film recounts the crew's experience surviving the Jaws-on-steroids high seas encounter. Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Jordi Molla are all aboard as costars, with Tom Holland and Brendan Gleeson playing young and old versions of the narrator. Charles Leavitt ("Blood Diamond," upcoming "Warcraft") wrote the original draft of the script,...

Earlier this year it was reported that Oliver Stone would be directing a movie about whistleblower Edward Snowden, and now it appears he may have found his lead. Way back in 2011, Armie Hammer became attached to a sci-fi thriller called “2:22,” but we’ve heard nary a peep on it since – until today, when it was announced that Hammer is now out of the project, and Benjamin Walker is now in. Additionally, the film’s female lead has been cast, and will be played by Teresa Palmer. The plot description now purports to be about “a man whose life is permanently derailed when an ominous pattern of events repeats itself every day, ending at precisely 2:22 pm. He must solve the mystery to protect the woman he loves.” [...]

As if the cast of John Hillcoat's "Triple Nine" wasn't awesome enough with Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Michael Pena, Teresa Palmer and Gal Gadot already on board, it just got even better. They choose as their victim a rookie and honorable young officer, but what they don't know is that another cop has infiltrated the gang and is working on a setup. Production starts this summer and we're just gonna go ahead and put this on our Most Anticipated 2015 list. [Variety] Benjamin Walker, Pierce Brosnan, Kaya Scodelario and Fan Bingbing will all feature in Sean McNamara's ("Soul Surfer,...

Acclaimed filmmaker Zhang Yimou ("House of Flying Daggers," "Raise the Red Lantern") is in talks to direct the supernatural meets historical epic "Great Wall" at Legendary Pictures.
The story deals with British soldiers traveling through 15th century China who witness the construction of the massive edifice that will one day be known as the Great Wall of China. They soon discover that its intended purpose is not to keep out human beings, but terrifying otherworldly creatures.
The project was conceived by Legendary CEO Thomas Tull and "World War Z" writer Max Brooks back in 2012. It got pretty far along as well - Ed Zwick was attached to direct while Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker were to star in the film.
Scheduling and creative issues ultimately caused the project to be put on hold and re-conceived. It's now ready to go again, likely through Legendary's Asian division Legendary East. A rewrite is expected,...

In February of 2012, Legendary Pictures pulled the plug on Paradise Lost. It was to be a loose adaptation of John Milton's 17th century poem. Director Alex Proyas ("The Crow") had planned to use the most advanced 3D and motion capture technology to bring the biblical saga to life, but in the end budget concerns were too much to overcome. Legendary, tried numerous times to rework the numbers to get it below $120 million, but it was too daunting a task. At the heart of the issue, was the enormous amount of visual effects that were required for the celestial battles, that involved massive aerial warfare. It would've featured an all-star cast: Bradley Cooper as Lucifer, Benjamin Walker as the archangel Michael, Casey Affleck as Gabriel, Diego Boneta as Adam, Camilla Belle as Eve and Dijmon Hounsou as Abdiel, the Angel of Death. Wow! This is a really phenomenal cast and with Ron Howard at the helm (sorry, we’re full of maritime puns) this could really be something special. Production is now underway in the UK on the action adventure “Heart of the Sea.” Oscar® winner Ron Howard directs from a script by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) and Charles Leavitt, based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling novel about the dramatic true journey of the whaling ship Essex. “Heart of the Sea” stars Chris Hemsworth as the vessel’s veteran first mate Owen Chase; Benjamin Walker as its inexperienced Captain, George Pollard; Cillian Murphy as second mate Matthew Joy; and Ben Whishaw as novelist Herman Melville, whose inquiries into the event 30 years later helped bring the story to light. The film also stars Tom Holland (“The Impossible”) as young seaman Tom Nickerson, and Brendan Gleeson (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1...

For Muhammad Ali, one of the most highly publicized fights of his lifetime happened outside of the ring, when, for religious reasons, he declined to enlist in the army during the Vietnam War. As the Stephen Frears film Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight details, the prize fighter’s decision to claim conscientious objector status after being drafted and the legal battles that ensued caused massive public uproar and outrage at Ali’s “audacity.” You know, even though there were definitely white guys claiming Co status, too. The HBO film boasts a stacked cast, including Danny Glover, Frank Langella, Christopher Plummer, Barry Levinson, and Bob Balaban. What is particularly interesting is that rather than casting an Ali, the film solely uses archival footage during his scenes. At least we know his words are exactly as he said them? Check out the trailer for yourself: Let’s just hope this doesn’t get too far into where I think...

Playing in limited release right now is the rather excellent documentary, "The Trials Of Muhammad Ali" (our review), which gives a fascinating, in depth look at the legal battles the fighter faced, including his highly publicized decision to claim conscientious objector status when drafted for the Vietnam War. It was a position that seriously threatened his livelihood, and made him an easy target from all sides; the true story itself is hugely dramatic and compelling. But if you'd rather see a movie with actors telling the tale, well, there's "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight." The Stephen Frears film follows Ali’s trial following his arrest for anti-Vietnam sentiments, and the battle that ensued of his legal right (or not) to claim that he was a Co. At the time, one could decline from the war citing religious reasons — as Ali did — but there were many thorny ways to interpret that broad definition.

Melbourne, August 27: A new research has revealed that people with psychopathic tendencies are also capable of becoming first-class entrepreneurs.
The research found that psychopaths bear temperamental differences that make them risk seekers, spontaneous and fearless, and these characteristics allow a person to persist in risk-taking and succeed in business, the Courier Mail reported.
The study also discovered that people with either psychopathic or entrepreneurial intentions persisted through adversity in a risk-taking task.
PhD student Benjamin Walker said that even when the experimental conditions changed from rewarding to punishing, participants who were high in either psychopathic tendencies or entrepreneurial.
