Some actors slip into familiar roles like old sweaters. Emily Watson might prefer a raincoat. The actress first graced our screens in Breaking the Waves for Lars von Trier: her eyes peeking out from under a wooly hat, whipped by wind and rain, and carrying the sins of an entire town. The great actress faces those same elements again in God’s Creatures, trading von Trier’s nightmarish vision of the Scottish highlands for a doom metal take on Ireland’s Atlantic coast.
Written by Shane Crowley in collaboration with the producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, God’s Creatures tells a story about sexual assault and collective denial that is as universal as it is inseparable from its locale. The film is directed by Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer, American filmmakers whose brilliant 2016 debut The Fits showcased a true flair for building suspense, not to mention an appreciation for shared psychosis...

A young woman realizes that her life in a secluded cult could be more of a restricted hell than a freeing existence in Malgorzata Szumowska's The Other Lamb. With the film coming out this April from IFC Films, we've been provided with a new clip in which cult leader Shepherd (Michiel Huisman) speaks of sacrifice to his many wives before leading them in a bloody prayer.
Directed by Malgorzata Szumowska from a screenplay by C.S. McMullen, The Other Lamb stars Michiel Huisman, Raffey Cassidy, Denise Gough, Kelly Campbell, Eve Connolly, and Isabelle Connolly.
You can watch the new clip below (which originally premiered on Bloody Disgusting), and keep an eye out for The Other Lamb when it's released in select cinemas (this could be subject to change due to the coronavirus), VOD, and digital platforms on April 3rd via IFC Films.
Synopsis: "For her entire life, the cult she...

"Selah, what happened?" "It's worse than punishment." IFC Midnight has released an official trailer for the indie thriller The Other Lamb, another fascinating and freaky new cult film. This originally premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year, and also stopped by Fantastic Fest and the San Sebastian Film Festival (here's my full review). Raffey Cassidy plays a girl named Selah born into an all-women cult led by a man in their compound, who begins to question his teachings and her own reality. The small group lives out in the woods, secluded from everyone else, minding only themselves. There's an obvious connection to Charles Manson here, but it's also about how people are so insanely obedient. The cast includes Michiel Huisman as the Shepherd, with Denise Gough, Kelly Campbell, Eve Connolly, and Isabelle Connolly. This is an intriguing little film that offers plenty in terms of both style and substance...
