- He and Fred Stone starred in the original 1906 Broadway production of Victor Herbert's "The Red Mill".
- He played the Tin Man in the 1902 musical stage production of "The Wizard of Oz", opposite his longtime vaudeville partner, Fred Stone, who played the Scarecrow. This production became an enormous Broadway hit in its time, has a different musical score, and is otherwise almost totally different from the famous 1939 Judy Garland film.
- He was known onstage as David C. Montgomery.
