“I am 18 and entirely unremarkable,” Jenna Ortega says at the beginning of Miller’s Girl, the feature debut of writer-director Jade Halley Bartlett. But not for long. In the psychological thriller co-starring Martin Freeman, a student-teacher relationship turns into a dangerous liaison when a lonely teen’s writing assignment sparks intimacy with a much older man.
“No one is a perfect villain or a perfect victim. They don’t exist,” Bartlett told Forbes about the film’s controversial subject matter. “These characters are quite nebulous and gray, which I think is closer to real-life people.”

Cairo (Ortega), a high school student, lives alone in a big old house called Lovell Hill. Her lawyer parents are, as she says, “permanently abroad.” Cairo feels completely unexceptional, having not made a mark on the world. To cure her feelings of isolation, she writes. It helps her get through the endless days...

Jenna Ortega is undoubtedly one of Hollywood's most talented rising stars. The actress was involved in some pretty big projects as a child, then gained recognition for her performance as young Jane in Jane the Virgin, for her starring role in Disney's Stuck in the Middle and her participation in Netflix's You. Now we know Ortega as the new Scream Queen, the new Wednesday, and a great dramatic actress with a lot of interesting movies coming up in the next few years.
However, Jenna Ortega's latest feature film role is not her most successful to say the least. And it's not even about the actress' performance, she doesn't deserve such a badly written character and script.
We are talking about the erotic thriller Miller's Girl, in which Ortega starred alongside none other than Martin Freeman. Unfortunately, the movie was panned by critics and audiences alike and flopped at the box office.

Pat Sajak had trouble delivering some tough news to a Wheel of Fortune contestant.
Cairo Hunter of Fontana, California, earned his way to the Bonus Round during his episode but missed out big time.
Cairo opted for the “Phrase” category and, in addition to the customary R, S, T, L, N, and E, he chose H, M, G, and the vowel A.
His letter options left him with a puzzle that read, “THE_ / HA_E / G_ _ _ / _ _ A L _ T _ E S.”
Before his 10-second countdown began, host Pat Sajak encouraged him to talk out possible puzzle solutions.
But, despite taking Pat’s advice and talking it out, Cairo could only come up with the first three words in the puzzle.
Pat Sajak stalls when it’s time to deliver some bad news to a contestant

When contestants make their way through several successful puzzles but miss out on big wins, it can be brutal. On Wheel Of Fortune, Pat Sajak tries to soften the blow when one contestant fights his way through but loses out on a big win.
Pat Sajak Recognizes Cairo Hunter’s Successes
During a recent episode of Wheel Of Fortune, Cairo Hunter had several notable puzzles solved. For instance, in Same Letter, he incorrectly guesses “Galactics Gadgets Gizmos.” However, when his turn cycles back around he correctly identifies the puzzle as, “Galaxies Gadgets Gizmos.” Then encouraging, Pat Sajak says, “If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again. Although, that could be our next puzzle. I may have screwed that up.” Then in Fun & Games, Cairo made the correct guess, “Performing in a Talent Show.” Pat quickly compliments, “Very nice.” Given that, he took home a Disney Cruise Line vacation...

Plot: A creative writing assignment yields complex results between a teacher and his talented student.
Review: I wasn’t sure what to make of Miller’s Girl when I first heard of it. The idea of a teacher falling for a student isn’t exactly new, but there was a mystery present that I appreciated. And it’s honestly, given that subject matter, a very tough film to talk about. The topic is taboo and won’t be for everyone, and the filmmakers really take advantage of that uncomfortably. On a technical side, the film is gorgeously shot and takes advantage of its beautiful sets. Plus, I have a soft spot for erotic thrillers. But this one has very few teeth and is as obvious as they come.
There’s clearly something not quite right about Jenna Ortega‘s Cairo right from the start. She exhibits an intellectual way of dissecting...

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on “The Morning Mess” with Scott Thompson on Wbgr-fm on January 25th, 2024, reviewing “Miller’s Girl.,” a teacher and student reciprocation written and directed by Jade Hailey Bartlett. In theaters on January 26th.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman) is a creative writing teacher who has a new student named Cairo (Jenna Ortega). She is an exceptional and unusual writer, a once in a lifetime find for the hidden author in Miller’s soul. When a short story assignment he gives her spins out of control, it leads to some inappropriate interaction between teacher and student, enough to affect all lives involved.
”Miller’s Girl” is in theaters on January 26th. Featuring Martin Freeman, Jenna Ortega, Gideon Adlon, Bashir Salahuddin and Dagmara Dominczyk. Written and directed by Jade Hailey Bartlett. Rated “R”

“I’m 18 and highly unremarkable.”
So starts “Miller’s Girl,” a drama-slash-psychological thriller that serves more so as an indictment of modern multilayered sexual politics than an (as marketed) after school special. As our lead character Cairo Sweet (Jenna Ortega) says, “longing” to experience something is the most dangerous force there is, and for Cairo, that longing culminates in a misguided crush and a politicized heartbreak with a professor (Martin Freeman).
High school student Cairo enrolls in a creative writing class taught by frustrated novelist Jonathan Miller (Freeman), who immediately takes a liking to her after spotting that she has a copies of both his debut novel and Henry Miller’s salacious works. Written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, “Miller’s Girl” plays on the titular Mr. Miller and the real-life author Miller himself, with Cairo’s compulsion to impress and find solace in her teacher further radicalized by taking on...

“Miller’s Girl,” about a relationship that develops between a wise-beyond-her-years teenager and her intellectually undernourished teacher, feels like catnip for the circular discourse of Film Twitter, but it’s hard to tell where a study of post-#MeToo power dynamics will land with moviegoers in the real world.
Written, produced and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, the film is both impressively erudite and unrelentingly self-aware, a combination it bravely attempts but doesn’t quite fully balance. But Jenna Ortega’s movie-star confidence in the title role more than eclipses Martin Freeman’s shoe-leather character acting, a perhaps inevitable outcome given the age and gender politics exercised in its story — but not necessarily one that gets at something truly interesting.
Ortega (“Wednesday”) plays Cairo Sweet, a high school student living in a small Tennessee town while her absent lawyer parents travel the globe on unnamed business. Summed up with cheeky precision...

Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman find themselves embroiled in a heated student-teacher dynamic in the trailer for the upcoming feature Miller’s Girl.
Lionsgate is set to release the film from writer-director Jade Halley Bartlett on Jan. 26 after it debuts at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier that month. Ortega stars as Cairo, a promising writer who navigates her complicated relationship with Jonathan Miller (Freeman) after his assignment leads to tension.
“Why did you write this?” Freeman asks in the drama’s trailer. “This is inappropriate.” This leads Ortega to respond, “‘Write what you know,’ is what you said.”
Later, Freeman laments, “If she can convince them that something happened between us, I would lose my job.”
Bartlett directs from her own script, which landed on the Black List in 2016. Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin and Gideon Adlon co-star in the movie that counts Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Josh Fagen...

Girls' trip - don't text. Gabrielle Union and Tia Mowry seem to be having the ultimate vacation in the South of France, and their mini throwback dance party is the proof. In an Aug. 29 TikTok, the two showed off impressive choreography to Christina Aguilera's iconic 2000s hit "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)," matching each other's energy with Union in an asymmetrical red minidress, and Mowry in bright yellow.
Together, the dynamic duo hit every beat of the ultra nostalgic track, moving in sync and striking dramatic poses at the end. "Established in 1997 South of France Edition," Union captioned the video with her newfound dance partner, referencing the year she met Mowry on the "Sister Sister" set. "Romanticizing life like an early 2000s romcom with my girl," Mowry added on her own TikTok account. She later reposted the video on Instagram for good measure, writing, "Cairo and...

Karol G has added more dates to her Mañana Será Bonito stadium tour. This is the singer’s first-ever set of stadium performances in the United States. The tour is scheduled to begin on August 11 in Las Vegas before ending on September 7 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The trek is named after the Colombian star’s reggaeton album released in February 2023. The LP contained “Tqg” with Shakira, which became Karol G’s first top-10 single on the US Billboard Hot 100. Mañana Será Bonito was also the first all-Spanish language album by a woman to reach number one on the US Billboard 200.
Karol G also found success in 2022 with her Strip Love tour becoming the highest-grossing US tour by a Latin woman in history. In 33 shows across North America, it earned $69.9 million, more than both Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

Members of the Nassau County Republican Committee have called for Rep.
