“This is the voice of WhatCulture. We know that you can hear us, Earthmen.”
Sorry, there was no other way of starting that introduction.
The Gerry Anderson shows are still fondly remembered by fans across the world, and not least amongst his output was Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. The original programme ran for two series from 1967 to 1968 and featured the indestructible Captain Scarlet and the other agents of Spectrum defending the Earth against the evil plans of the Mysterons and their human agent, Captain Black.
Captain Scarlet, like other Anderson-helmed programmes, featured puppets (or marionettes) rather than actual actors. But when fans think of the programme, they mostly recall the incredibly cool vehicles and planes. And many of those fans still have the wonderful toy Spectrum Pursuit Vehicles (SPVs) and Angel Interceptors.
The programme did return for a CGI reboot in 2005, with two sets of animated episodes; however,...

John Dies at the End will be released to theaters on January 25th and I recently had the opportunity to interview a number of people involved with the movie. I’ve already published my article with Don Coscarelli and next up is my interview with Paul Giamatti. Not only did we talk about his involvement in John Dies at the End as an actor and executive producer, but I also learned about his love of classic horror movies.
I recently watched John Dies at the End and loved how much it felt like a movie out of the 80′s. So many horror movies from that decade had a great mix of horror and comedy.
Paul Giamatti: I’m a fan of that kind of stuff too. This has a nice old school thing to it which is really good.

Late last year, Platinum Studios made a deal with Aurora Productions to bring "Nightfall" to the big screen. And while news on the project has since been scarce, word has emerged that a director is finally attached to the potential film.
According to Deadline, James Wan, the director and co-creator of the original "Saw" has agreed to helm "Nightfall." In addition to the first "Saw" film, Wan wrote "Saw 3" and has been a producer on all of the sequels. He has also directed the films "Dead Silence," "Death Sentence" and "Insidious." Wan has also been linked to the film adaptation of "Castlevania."
Created by Scott O. Brown and Ferran Xalabarder, "Nightfall" focuses on a man named David Paxton who is sentenced to a brutal Texas prison that is secretly run by vampires using the inmates as livestock. It was originally published by Platinum in 2007.

Platinum Studios and Aurora Productions are adapting Scott O. Brown and Ferran Xalabarder’s original graphic novel “Nightfall” into a feature film.
“Nightfall” was first published in 2007 and follows a right-wing survivalist named David Paxton who is sentenced to a brutal Texas prison that is secretly run by vampires using the inmates as livestock.
According to Variety, Platinum Studios' Scott Mitchell Rosenberg is attached as an executive producer, along with William Stuart. Former Universal Pictures senior executive Randy Greenberg negotiated the deal with Platinum and will also be an executive producer on the project.
"Nightfall is an extraordinary opportunity to make a fantastic horror/thriller in a genre which is unbelievably hot right now," said Stuart. "Platinum Studios has wonderful creative depth and a proven ability to make things happen."

Sin City producer Stephen L'Heureux's Solipsist Films has acquired the rights to Ed Laroche's graphic novel Almighty.
According to Mania, Black Hawk Down screenwriter Ken Nolan is attached to write the script and potential directors are being approached.
Created, written and drawn by Laroche, Almighty takes place in 2098 and follows a female motorcycling mercenary called Fale, who is hired to rescue a girl and bring her home across a third world America - "a fractured landscape of segregated zones driven by neo-tribalism."
Laroche said: "At its heart Almighty is a pursuit story. As the story unfolds there are other things that are attached to it but at the core of it, a girl has been kidnapped and someone has hired a killer to find her and bring her home." The official website for Almighty is here.
Mania adds that Solipsist has also picked up screen rights on two other titles.

The graphic novel Gunplay is in development at Fox21, the TV arm of Fox Broadcasting, as a possible television series. Based on the comic published by Platinum Studios, Gunplay is about a buffalo soldier of the 19th century U.S. army who is cursed to carry a pistol that he must use to kill a person once every day or else his body feels tremendous pain.
Developing the project is Glen Morgan, the writing partner of X-Files/Millennium/Space: Above & Beyond writer/producer James Wong. After Wong and Morgan carved out their names writing Fox sci-fi and supernatural dramas in the 1990s, they made the transition to feature films with the first Final Destination movie in 2000. They've also made The One, the third Final Destination, the remake of Willard and Black Christmas. Morgan was also an executive producer on NBC's recent failed reboot of Bionic Woman.

The flood of comic books and graphic novels being adapted into films and TV series shows no signs of abating.
Superheroes and supervillains, as well as many less-obvious graphic novel characters who don't wear costumes or have superpowers, are all soaring off the printed page.
Comic book writer Mike Mignola, whose Hellboy creation for Dark Horse comics has been adapted into two movies, said: "It never occurred to me in a billion years that somebody would make a film version of Hellboy (see picture). Now you have comic book publishers that pretty much exist as a development ground for film properties. So much of the visual language is already created."

The upcoming Platinum Studios comic book “Indestructible Man” has already been optioned as a potential TV series by Fox21.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series revolves around Nick Rabel, a secret agent who is unable to die, but not impervious to injury.
"[Fox21] really understood this character and the world he inhabits from the very first meeting," explained Platinum Studios chairman Scott Rosenberg. The series will also reportedly mix superpowers with humor.
The deal comes in the midst of an especially busy year for Platinum Studios in Hollywood. The company’s signature book—“Cowboys & Aliens”—has been on the fast track at Dreamworks and Universal with Robert Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau attached along with “Star Trek” screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
Additionally, the Platinum Studios-produced “Dead of Night” has already begun filming—with Brandon Routh in the lead role of Dylan Dog—and “Atlantis Rising” is expected to go into production soon,...

Fox already has The Human Target, a new show based on a comic book character who has a penchant for hardcore action. They could also have Indestructible Man on the air too and it's also based on a comic book property, this time owned by Platinum Studios.
The premise behind the property is that the central character, a secret agent by the name of Nick Rabel, can't be killed or destroyed. He can be hurt, he can be messed up and he can feel the pain that comes from it. No, his codename isn't Wolverine.
Platinum hasn't published the comic yet but Fox21 president Chris Carlisle dug the concept and wants a TV show out of it, calling the property "a unique combination of superpowers and humor."
Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, head honcho of Platinum, will be an executive producer on the show.
