Plot: A young girl (Cailey Fleming) going through a difficult life experience discovers that she can see a whole world of IFs (imaginary friends) who’ve been forgotten by their childhood friends as they grew older. Now, with the help of their mysterious adult named Cal (Ryan Reynolds), she seeks to unite these IFs with new children.
Review: One cannot fault writer-director-star John Krasinski for a lack of ambition. He’s parlayed the success of his A Quiet Place franchise into this big-budget family film, which seems to aspire to be a live-action Pixar flick. However, in attempting to appeal to both children and adults, he’s made a movie targeting too vague an audience. If is too childish for adults, but it is also likely too serious and dramatic to keep kids entertained.
As such, If could be categorized as an interesting failure. Like Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, which also seemed inspired by Pixar,...

After taking us into A Quiet Place in two box office hits (with a prequel arriving very soon), actor/director/writer John Krasinski now guides us into a fairy noisy place, namely the inner life and fantasies of children. And going from sci-fi thrills to whimsey is quite the “lane change”, one that could end in disaster if not properly planned. Luckily he’s crafted a story and has enlisted a talented cast in front of the camera and the microphone. Yes, this is perhaps the most ambitious cartoon/live-action feature since the pairing of private eye Eddie Valiant and Roger Rabbit. And since it uses computer-generated “beasties” (rather than the 2-D classic style), Krasinski is touting it as a “live-action Pixar flick” (quite a goal). And he’s really putting those tech wizards to work in showing us the often unseen children’s side-kick, the invisible friend, here shortened to If.

Nicole Kidman caused a stir when she came to Hong Kong mid-pandemic to shoot the Amazon-backed drama series “Expats.” But, awkwardly, the completed series is not available in the city where it is set.
The show, which includes Kidman’s Blossom Films as producer, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was uploaded to Prime Video on Friday last week. In Hong Kong, Prime Video subscribers seeking it out get the message “this video is currently unavailable to watch in your location.”
It remains unclear whether the city’s government has stepped in to prevent “Expats” from screening or whether Prime Video has given in to self-censorship. Both explanations point to an increasingly difficult environment for media and entertainment in the territory, which sometimes brands itself as “Asia’s World City.”

Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup zoomed onto TV screens 25 years ago, as Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls debuted on November 18, 1998. Created by Craig McCracken, the animated series told how one professor’s quest to concoct the “perfect little girl” went awry with the accidental addition of Chemical X, turning three kindergarten-aged girls into super-powered crimefighters. These days, the Powerpuff Girls live on only in reruns and streaming libraries — a recent live-action adaptation never made it past the pilot stage, unfortunately. But with new comic books and even a new TV show in the pipeline, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup will be back with new stories faster than you can say “Fuzzy Lumpkins.” Here’s a breakdown of the franchise so far… The original series In Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls — which aired six seasons between 1998 and 2005 — Tara Strong, E.G. It's been nearly forty years, but people still remember "The A-Team." The action adventure series went on for five seasons, but stuck around in the public consciousness for much, much longer. People still remember the theme song, the cartoonish violence, the catchphrases. But although many viewers throughout the 2000s wanted a revival of the show, the TV series itself never came back.
Instead, we got a feature film in 2010 starring an updated A-Team, with the characters being veterans of the Iraq War instead of veterans of Vietnam. The film underperformed at the box office, however, and they never made a sequel. Unlike "21 Jump Street," a franchise where the later movies have now long-since overshadowed the TV show for most younger viewers, when people of all ages today think of "The A-Team," they're still almost certainly thinking of the show.

The cast of Friends used collective bargaining to level out their salaries. As an ensemble cast, they wanted to be treated as equals as their wages grew from $22K per episode to $1M. Each cast member of Friends earned around $90 million in base salary alone from the show before the addition of any backend bonuses and ongoing royalties from syndication, racking each actor up an impressive net worth. For 10 seasons, the Friends cast was considered the gold standard of sitcom television, but where do they stand financially today? Here is the net worth of the Friends cast ranked from richest to poorest.

I got my nose in around about 4th grade. Before then, I had more of a little button nose. Adorable. But from the time I was 10, the pointy chin I had pretty much since I could crawl was joined by what I think of as a prominent, somewhat regal, nose in the style of what is called a “Roman” nose. (I even saw what looked an awful lot like my exact nose on an ancient statue the first time I went to Rome as a teenager!)
I was an outgoing child who had trouble not talking to other kids during class or flirting with boys. I loved making other kids laugh with jokes and impressions. I didn’t think of myself as unattractive, but I also knew that most boys who I liked didn’t like loud, quirky girls like me who had calluses on their hands from too much time on the monkey bars.

Lulu Wang’s long-awaited adaptation of Janice Y. K. Lee’s bestselling novel “The Expatriates” is first traveling to TIFF before a highly anticipated Prime Video premiere.

Bill Saluga, a comedian best known for his trademark phrase, “You can call me Ray,” has died. He was 85.
Saluga spent eight months in the hospital and died March 28 in hospice care in Los Angeles, his friend Bill Minkin told The Hollywood Reporter.
Born Sept. 16, 1937, in Youngstown, Ohio, Saluga worked as a doorman at The Bitter End in New York, then took the stage at the famed nightclub as a member of the Ace Trucking Company.
The improvisational comedy group, with other founding members including George Memmoli, Michael Mislove, Patti Deutsch and Fred Willard, found success in the 1960s and ’70s. They opened for Tom Jones in Las Vegas and performed on the singer’s 1971 ABC variety show, which was filmed in London.

Viewers may have seen cast members Joey Lawrence, Michael Stoyanov, Jenna von Oÿ, and Ted Wass appear on episodes of star Mayim Bialik’s current series, Call Me Kat.
A family comedy series, Blossom aired on NBC for five seasons between 1991 and 1995. Mayim Bialik could be set to have a very busy schedule in the coming months as momentum picks up for a Blossom reboot, as well as a potential role in the recently announced Big Bang Theory spinoff. The Jeopardy! co-host, who also leads the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat, is open to being involved in the planned Big Bang Theory spinoff, which Chuck Lorre is developing for HBO Max (soon to be Max). But she admitted that the announcement earlier this month was the first she had heard of it. “I was completely surprised,” she told Variety. “My kids are like, ‘Mama, do you know anything about this?’ I promise, I don’t.” Expanding on her thoughts in an interview with E! News, Bialik said, “I got the news like everybody else. We’re all still pretty close, so there was a lot of texting going on. And I asked my agent.

A “Blossom” reboot is well past the ideas stage. Mayim Bialik, who starred in the titular role of the 1990s sitcom, tells me series creator Don Reo has written a pilot for its return. “The show was supposed to be ‘Catcher in the Rye’ about a girl, which was unusual. And we’d like to do a reboot that’s unusual. We’d like to do a single cam,” Bialik says. “All of the cast is on board.”
However, it sounds like it’ll take more time to get things going than they were hoping. “It’s a set of conversations with Disney because there’s a lot of red tape and there’s a lot of complexity,” Bialik explains. “It’s complicated.”
Bialik revealed in an Instagram post this month that the reboot is in the works after talking about it during an appearance she and Reo made at Rhode Island’s Bryant University.

Who’s up for a Blossom reboot? Mayim Bialik sure is! The Jeopardy! host addressed the possibility of the beloved ’90s sitcom returning to the small screen during a talk at Rhode Island’s Bryant University on April 17. And in the chat with Blossom creator Don Reo, Bialik revealed that a reboot is, in fact, already in the works. “Thank you Bryant University (and especially President Gittell & Dean McComb pictured here!) for hosting me and Blossom creator Don Reo yesterday! We had a blast talking about our respective crafts, our 35 year friendship, and answering questions about a Blossom reboot!” Bialik wrote on Instagram on April 19. “For those of you who weren’t there, we are working on it. I mean, don’t you wanna know what Blossom Russo’s been up to?” View this post on Instagram A post shared by mayim bialik (@missmayim) Bialik played Blossom Russo from 1990-95 on NBC.

Back in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, there was a CBS show called Circus of the Stars. The show featured a mélange of early ‘90s network TV stars, from Alfonso Ribeiro to Bronson Pinchot to Six from Blossom. It gave fans a thrill to see all of these beloved TV stars assembled in a different context, usually doing minor acrobatic tricks or pretending to train Pekinese dogs. It was like the ultimate crossover episode.

At this point, I'm convinced Natasha Lyonne can do anything. The actor, writer, director, and producer is on a serious roll, starring in (and showrunning) the fantastic second season of the Netflix sci-fi series "Russian Doll" and starring in Rian Johnson's new Peacock series "Poker Face," but once upon a time she wasn't as famous and lost out on some pretty big roles. Lyonne has been acting since she was a child, with her first credited performance on "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" when she was just six years old, and that means she's been to enough auditions that she's probably lost count. Apparently, among those auditions were try-outs for the title role on the ABC comedy series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and for Six on the NBC comedy series "Blossom," both of which would have been wildly different with Leone.

Natasha Lyonne is dishing on some iconic roles she was close to landing early in her career.

Exclusive: Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta books have completed their long journey to the screen with a blockbuster TV series starring Oscar winner Nicole Kidman in the title role and Oscar nominee Jamie Lee Curtis as the famous forensic pathologist’s sister Dorothy, I have learned. Kidman is executive producing through Blossom Films and Curtis through Comet Pictures the drama, from writer-showrunner Liz Sarnoff (Barry) and Blumhouse Television, which I hear is nearing a two-season straight-to-series order at Prime Video. A rep for the streamer declined comment as deals for the project, to be produced by Amazon Studios and Blumhouse, are still being finalized. It is expected to receive an order for two eight-episode seasons, sources said.

Last week, we posted a list of five forgotten actors we’d like to see make a comeback, and the reaction was so strong, we decided to post a bunch more! There’s a ton of forgotten actors from the 80s and 90s we’d love to have back on our screen, so let’s take a look at another group of them today.
Kelly Jo Minter
Let’s start with a horror favorite and a regular presence on the convention circuit, Kelly Jo Minter. Most folks will remember her from A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, The People Under the Stairs, and a slew of television series appearances. She was everywhere for a while in the 1980s and 1990s, then projects started becoming further and further apart, with nothing between 2008 and 2019, then nothing since. Riverdale is an unconventional teen drama. The off-the-wall camp keeps us guessing (and sometimes shocked).
When you think your mind is wrapped around the plot, the wicked little town loves to throw a curveball. We've had murder mysteries, mob bosses, serial killers, a brainwashing board game, cults, witches, magic, and most recently, a demonic apocalypse, to name a few.
The drama is vastly different than the darkly small town we met during Riverdale Season 1. But how did we get here?
It's almost like the plot of some scary movie or book.
What if Riverdale is a fictionalized story set in one of Jughead's books?
It's not an outrageous theory when you look at all the pieces and clues, especially when you think about the framework of the show.
As a TV show, Riverdale is framed by its chapters and narratives. Each new episode feels like the next soapy part in...
