Hollywood has produced a number of prolific actors over the years, but few can rival Matt Damon in terms of fame and popularity. The Bourne Legacy actor is one of the most popular actors who keeps adding a wide collection of films to his stellar resume. 2023 has been incredible for the actor as he worked in the sports biopic Air and Christopher Nolan’s biographical epic Oppenheimer.

Not even close.

And just like that, one of HBO’s most iconic hits is heading over to its biggest streaming rival.
All six seasons of the Emmy-winning comedy Sex and the City are going to stream on Netflix for the first time. The show will reportedly be added to the platform in April as a co-exclusive with Max (so Satc will still be available on HBO’s streaming service as well).
The licensing deal is part of a content agreement that HBO parent company Warner Bros. Discovery made with Netflix last July, but Satc was not originally announced as part of that package.

Carla Gugino is amazing. From her early days co-starring with Pauly Shore in Son-In-Law to indies with her partner Sebastian Gutierrez, including Electra Luxx and Women in Trouble, Gugino has shirked the traditional path many Hollywood actresses have taken. The result is a career full of unique work on the big screen and small including work with filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez, Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game), Zack Snyder, Ridley Scott (American Gangster), and more. Her series work with Mike Flanagan has included an array of roles in The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, as well as her recent turn in The Fall of the House of Usher, which garnered Gugino her first Critics Choice nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

Year after year, TV fans continue to be irked when the Golden Globes combine supporting performances from comedies, dramas, limited series and TV movies altogether. Looking through the list of past winners in the female category, you can clearly see there’s a bias toward rewarding dramatic roles over comedic ones. In fact, it’s been a whopping 13 years since a supporting actress from a comedy series prevailed: Jane Lynch (“Glee”). Is there a comedy curse at the Golden Globes? If so, it could finally end this year, as Gold Derby predicts Meryl Streep (“Only Murders in the Building”) will win the race for Best TV Supporting Actress on Sunday, January 7.
Streep plays Loretta Durkin on the Hulu hit, an out-of-work theater actress who decides to audition for a Broadway play directed by Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) in order to get closer to one of the other characters. Loretta is tailor-made for awards recognition,...

One of the most amusing bits of the 2000s HBO sitcom Entourage was the fake movies that existed within the TV show. While protagonist Vincent Chase was fictional, the Hollywood he moved through was not. Real actors playing versions of themselves cameoed as they helped build Chase’s fictional movie star career, with each faux film working as a parody of some trend or fad at the time. The most infamously pointed of these was Aquaman, a phony superhero flick designed to poke fun at the recent Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie.
I thought about that gag for the first time in years while watching Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this holiday weekend, and not just because it also revolved around DC’s most waterlogged superhero, Arthur Curry. Rather the uncanny, gnawing sensation that stalks Aquaman 2 like some bloodthirsty tuna is that you’re not watching a real movie. Something this soulless,...

Sky has been rapped by Ofcom for the second time in the space of a year over swearing in one of its repeat shows, this time Entourage.
Ofcom said a pre-watershed repeat of Entourage on the Sky Comedy channel in August failed to provide a mandatory pin code to protect under-18s, and the word “f***ing” was broadcast. Sky stressed that the word came very soon after the show started and it was pulled with just three minutes having elapsed.
In the UK, Ofcom’s code requires that people under 18 are protected from “unsuitable material” in programs.
Ofcom allows shows with sex, violence or swearing to air before the evening watershed as long as they are protected by a pin code. In this instance, the pin code failed and younger viewers were exposed to the swearword. Sky said it introduced two immediate changes to prevent a reoccurrence, which “add...

Hopefully, you’ve already read this week’s weekend movie preview, so you know that “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” “Godzilla Minus One,” the revenge thriller “Silent Night” and more will be opening on this slow weekend coming up, so we can focus on the rest of the month, including the lucrative weeks around Christmas Day.
Oddly, the top three movies for the rest of the month might all be from the same studio, which is something fairly unheard of, even and especially during the holidays. Read on for Gold Derby’s December 2023 box office preview.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” (Warner Bros. – Dec. 22)
Jason Momoa returns with this “Justice League” superhero in the sequel to the DC movie that opened with $67.8 million almost exactly five years ago and ended up making $1.1 billion globally, not bad for a superhero that’s often been treated as a joke on “Saturday Night Live” to “Entourage.

The year 2023 has been filled with unlikely movie and TV success stories. "Barbenheimer" delivered two of the biggest movies of the year, while Marvel and superhero films gave us box office disappointments. On the TV front, "The Last of Us" delivered one of the best live-action adaptations of a video game ever, and the live-action "One Piece" beat the odds to become an acclaimed hit.
Then there's "Suits." The 12-year-old show started streaming on Netflix in June and has gathered over 3 billion "watch minutes" per week over the course of the summer — though we know how reliable streaming ratings can be. Whether it's the large number of episodes that has audiences enthralled, or the relatable characters you can follow for hundreds of hours (as show creator Aaron Korsh theorized), it cannot be denied that the masses have "Suits" fever. There's a new show set in the "Suits" universe in the works,...

In 2018, “Saturday Night Live” captured the public perception of Netflix as a ceaseless river of content. In a satiric ad, the late-night program hawked the streaming service as an “endless scroll,” promising that “by the time you’ve reached the bottom of our menu, there’s new shows at the top.” And when it came to movies, “SNL” joked that Netflix was so desperate for things to make, it had resorted to shooting the fake films from “Entourage.”
Scott Stuber, the head of Netflix’s film division, is the man responsible for feeding the algorithm, and for much of his six-year run, his mandate was clear: quantity, not quality. In 2020, for instance, Netflix announced it planned to release a new movie every week. It never got around to making “Medellín,” Vincent Chase’s passion project from “Entourage,” but the strain of producing so many films showed. For every Oscar winner like “Roma,...

On an otherwise unassuming Monday in February, Showtime issued a press release that, sans context, appeared to be business as usual. The cable channel/streaming service announced development plans for two of its most popular series: “Dexter,” the mid-aughts serial killer thriller, was exploring up to three new iterations, and “Billions,” the ongoing financial drama starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, was developing four spinoffs, including two titled “Millions” and “Trillions.”
Reactions were swift and merciless.
While plenty of eyes rolled in “Dexter’s” direction, a pervading sense of inevitability won out. Why wouldn’t Showtime extend a show that, despite complaints the original ran too long already, led to a revival that became “the most-watched series in Showtime history. Suits are physically incapable of leaving money on the table, so sure, fine, make “Teen Dexter” (actual working title: “Dexter: Origins”) and “Dexter Jr.” (aka “Dexter: New Blood” Season 2).
But why,...
