Buddha Lo, a two-time Top Chef winner and current executive chef at Hūso in New York City, is offering his insights on Top Chef Season 21 in Wisconsin. As we approach the final stretch in Episode 10, mental fatigue seems to be taking its toll on the contestants. While the cooking time on Top Chef is relatively short—quickfires last about 30 minutes and eliminations between 2-6 hours—the real challenge is the constant pressure and mental gymnastics involved in planning and strategizing for each task. It’s apparent as the competition progresses, difficulty levels ramp up significantly. The Quickfire Challenge with a...

Top Chef is in its final stretch, and the latest episode brings all the heat. We’ve got unpredictable eliminations, a new face back in the game, and a Quickfire Challenge like no other. The way that our chefs applaud and watch like fanboys is pretty entertaining. Tom announces Mike as...

With 20 seasons under its belt, “Top Chef” has always evolved in order to maintain its position as TV’s most prestigious cooking competition show. But when heading into Season 21, the Bravo mainstay had to make its greatest gear shift yet: After an international season that gathered contestants from a slew of global spinoffs in London, longtime host Padma Lakshmi announced her exit from the role after more than 15 years as the series’ grounded center.
Fortunately, Lakshmi’s successor is already well-known to the franchise’s fans. After winning Season 10, in 2012, Kristen Kish has topped the shortlist of “Top Chef” alumni who burnish the show’s credibility with their subsequent success. In 2018, Kish opened her own restaurant, Arlo Grey, inside Austin’s The Line hotel. She’s also developed experience as a presenter, co-hosting the Netflix reboot of “Iron Chef” with Alton Brown and traversing the globe for National Geographic’s...

“I’m feeling okay surprisingly,” said Michelle Wallace in her exit interview at the end of this week’s episode of “Top Chef,” “Lay It All on the Table.” She was sent home after struggling with a challenge where the cheftestants had to serve their food right there on the table instead of on plates. And unfortunately for her, “Last Chance Kitchen” just concluded last week, so there will be no opportunity for her to return to the competition. She finishes season 21 in sixth place.

Wallace was in trouble from the very beginning of the challenge. She knew she wanted to highlight salmon and beets in a brunch-inspired meal, but that’s all the inspiration she managed to come up with. The irony was that she’s actually good at food served on tables. “Crawfish boil, that’s right up my alley.

Last week on “Top Chef” in “Door County Fish Boil,” the cheftestants went to the beach for a flavorful fish conflagration, which led to the elimination of Soo Ahn, who had come through “Last Chance Kitchen” as the season’s surprise 16th cheftestant. That leaves five competitors on the main show (plus one returning this week from “Lck”) competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Manny Barella, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller and Michelle Wallace. So what happened on May 29 in “Lay It All on the Table”?
“It’s a new day. My hand feels a lot better,” says Savannah the morning after the fish boil challenge. She stabbed herself pretty badly, which threw her off her game and landed her in the bottom three. “But having a...

Last week on “Top Chef” in “The Good Land,” the cheftestants had to honor Native American ingredients and cuisine, which limited the types of ingredients they were allowed to use. Because “Top Chef” judge and “Last Chance Kitchen” host Tom Colicchio sent two chefs back into the competition at the midway point of the season (Soo Ahn and Kaleena Bliss), that meant the judges were obligated to, at one point down the line, eliminate two chefs to balance everything out. They did just that in “The Good Land,” where the chefs were tasked with honoring Native American cuisine. Amanda Turner and Laura Ozyilmaz were both guilty of overloading their dishes with too many ideas and ingredients, so both had to pack their knives and go. But how did they do when they both had to go up against reigning “Lck” champ Kevin D’Andrea? Watch part one of their triple threat match above, and scroll down to watch part two.

Kaleena Bliss was eliminated from “Top Chef” for a second time at the end of “Restaurant Wars,” which brought her back to “Last Chance Kitchen” to face reigning “Lck” champ Kevin D’Andrea. Would she be able to fight her way back into the competition again?
… The short answer is no, but not because she lost the “Lck” battle against Kevin. When she entered the kitchen and addressed him and host Tom Colicchio, she announced, much to their surprise, “Unfortunately, I’m not going to be competing today. One of the hardest things I think that I’ve had to learn in my journey of being a chef is that I need to put my mental health first before everything else. My heart’s telling me that if I were to step into this kitchen right now, I wouldn’t be able to give either of you my best.”

One of the hardest things I think that I’ve had to learn in my journey of being a chef is that I need to put my mental health first before everything else. My heart’s telling me that if I were to step into this kitchen right now, I wouldn’t be able to give either of you my best.”

Before NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation in New York City next week, Bravo has announced that it’s renewing a slew of its shows: 15 in total. Among the renewals is its nightly talk show “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” putting to rest any speculation that the network is looking to cut ties with Cohen after his being named in a lawsuit against the company by former “Real Housewives of New York City” cast member Leah McSweeney. Brandi Glanville, formerly of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” had also made legal threats against Cohen.
Cohen, the face of the Bravo, and an executive producer of the “Real Housewives” franchise, will remain so. A spokesperson for Bravo told Variety: “The outside investigation into the recent allegations made by Brandi Glanville and Leah McSweeney against Andy Cohen has now been completed, and the claims were found to be unsubstantiated.”

“Top Chef” cheftestant and “Top Chef France” alum Kevin D’Andrea was eliminated last week in the ballpark-inspired “Sausage Race” challenge, leaving nine cheftestants on the main show competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Soo Ahn, Manny Barella, Kaleena Bliss, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller, Laura Ozyilmaz, Amanda Turner and Michelle Wallace.
So what happened when those cheftestants reached the famous — or infamous — “Restaurant Wars” in season 21, episode eight?
The episode begins with ominous music and black cars on the road. “I don’t know where the Gps is set to, but I know the area where it’s set to,” says native Wisconsinite Dan. “It’s right on the lake. There are so many things that this could be.” They arrive at Discovery World and find host...

“The legendary risotto curse struck again!” says Kristen Kish at the start of this week’s “Top Chef: The Dish with Kish” after show. In this week’s episode of the cooking competition, titled “Sausage Race,” French cheftestant Kevin D’Andrea undertook the rice dish that has crushed the hopes of competitors in the past. Though it wasn’t a bad risotto in and of itself, it lacked the necessary sausage flavor it needed to fulfill the challenge, so he was eliminated. But it’s a dish you can make in 30 minutes to an hour, so why is it so hard to get it right on the show? And how do you make it properly? Kristen explored the dreaded dish with All-Star Amar Santana. Watch the episode above.

Early “Top Chef” favorite Rasika Venkatesa was eliminated last week in the aptly titled “Chaos Cuisine,” leaving 10 cheftestants on the main show competing for a chance to win a feature in Food and Wine magazine; an appearance at the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado; and $250,000 in prize money: Soo Ahn, Manny Barella, Kaleena Bliss, Kevin D’Andrea, Danny Garcia, Dan Jacobs, Savannah Miller, Laura Ozyilmaz, Amanda Turner and Michelle Wallace.
So what happened in episode seven, “Sausage Race”?
“It feels weird not having Rasika here,” says Danny, who has found a new running buddy in Savannah. Rasika was sent home last week in a result that was pretty shocking because she and fellow bottom chef Michelle have been two of the strongest, most consistent chefs of the entire competition thus far. “I felt like I was going home,” Michelle admits. Being in the bottom is “a kick in the ass.

“Chaos cooking is a thing that I think I’m still wrapping my brain around,” says Kristen Kish to “Top Chef” All-Star Marcel Vigneron in the latest episode of her after show “The Dish with Kish.” Vigneron defines it as “a blatant disregard for all the rules, and it’s specifically up to the chef to do whatever they want. Kind of like fusion, but fusion on steroids.” Watch Kish and Vigneron take on the unusual culinary trend above.
There were two challenges in this week’s “Chaos Cuisine” episode of “Top Chef,” but in both cases cakes were among the best dishes. Michelle Wallace won the Quickfire Challenge, which was to make a dessert highlighting dairy; her dish was a corn cake with mascarpone cheese, lemon zest and basil cream. Then Dan Jacobs was one of the top four chefs in the chaos cuisine Elimination Challenge with his seafood-topped funnel cake.

It’s rare for Bravo’s Top Chef to dedicate a whole season to a particular state, with the majority of its 21 seasons being filmed in perpetually trendy foodie-famous cities (like Boston or New York or Miami or Los Angeles). It’s easier to capture the food scene of one city through the show’s usual lineup of thematic challenges than it is to do that for an entire state — something that Season 21 proves in its trip to Wisconsin.
That’s not to say this season of the long-running reality show, which is just about half over now, has been a disaster, because it hasn’t. But it also doesn’t seem to embrace the spirit of a season that’s being billed as Top Chef: Wisconsin.
