There is something very nostalgic about looking back at the shows we grew up with, but the people we looked up to have changed. Some have continued to build their careers and now hold various awards, and others couldn't handle the stress of the industry and have retired.

All That Cast Reacts To Dan Schneider’s Apology
Since the release of Quiet On Set, Dan Schneider has released several statements. He denies that he was ever “sexualizing” any of the child actors that he worked with.
Schneider released a 20-minute interview on his own YouTube channel diving into the allegations. He said, “Every one of those jokes was written for a kid audience because kids thought they were funny.” The former Nickelodeon producer also said that he supports the decision to remove...

“Quiet on Set: Breaking the Silence” featured a new interview with “All That” cast members Giovannie Samuels and Bryan Hearne. The pair, who also participated in the first four episodes of the ID docuseries, returned to sit down with host Soledad O’Brien and talk about the series and Dan Schneider’s post-documentary interview.
“The thing about his interview as a whole, I thought it was funny. If I could be candid, Dan was an actor before all of this,” said Hearne, who appeared on Seasons 7 and 8 of “All That.” “I think that he brushed off some chops and gave us a nice performance. Where was all of this apologizing when Jennette McCurdy’s book came out?”
He continued, “I just feel that, what’s an apology without accountability? Realistically, if you take the inappropriate jokes away, do you have a show anymore? If you take all the foot jokes, take all the face shots,...

There are several popular social media accounts that graph weekly cable network schedules, and it’s always stunning to see how many schedulers have just given up. Nearly every cable network, large and small, now mostly program marathons of their most popular shows.
You know about “Ridiculousness” on MTV, of course. But did you know how much time Disney Channel runs “Big City Greens,” Nick Jr. airs “Paw Patrol,” Adult Swim telecasts “Bob’s Burgers” and “American Dad,” and Nick at Nite runs “Friends”? A lot.
As basic cable gets zombified, the double-digit declines continue. Live sports, of course, is saving the broadcast networks and some cable networks still in that game. And then there’s the interesting case of the diginets, which have managed to keep their declines small as they program a wider range of nostalgia fare to aging adults. And the networks with a very loyal, specialized audience — bravo,...

As the year winds down, it’s time to look back at Netflix’s biggest hits, and today, we begin by looking into what kids’ TV shows picked up the most points in the Netflix top 10s over the past 12 months.
This list is compiled using FlixPatrol data collected from the daily top 10s on Netflix from over 80 countries around the globe. They assign points and values to each title that gets featured on any day. Their data isn’t perfect as their method doesn’t quite fully capture the complexity of viewership data, such as total watch time, repeat viewings, or demographic details of the audience. Also worth noting is that Netflix changed up its top 10 metrics midway through the year to favor views over pure viewing hours. That said, their data provides a pretty accurate snapshot of what performed best over a long period.

Dan Schneider is responsible for some of Nickelodeon's most popular shows. After starting his career in supporting onscreen roles in "Better Off Dead" and "Head of the Class," he began writing and producing the sketch comedy show "All That" in 1993 and eventually left to run "The Amanda Show" starring Amanda Bynes. He went on to launch "Drake & Josh" in 2004, followed by "Zoey 101," "iCarly," "Victorious," "Sam & Cat," "Henry Danger," and "Game Shakers," among others.
But in March 2018, his massively successful tenure at the network ended suddenly. A joint statement from Nickelodeon and Schneider read, "Following many conversations together about next directions and future opportunities, Nickelodeon and our longtime creative partner Dan Schneider/Schneider's Bakery have agreed to not extend the current deal," per The New York Times. "Since several Schneider's Bakery projects are wrapping up, both sides agreed that this is a natural time for Nickelodeon and...

March is a time for madness, whether it comes from basketball, Mercury retrograde, or a person’s home streaming habits. Netflix joins in on the chaos by updating its library with all three “Hangover” movies, a whole lot of workout content, “Magic Mike Xxl,” and much, much more.
On March 9, the streamer will premiere Part 2 of “You” Season 2, starring Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie, and Ed Speleers. The five remaining episodes find Joe (Badgley) trapped in a volatile dance with London mayoral candidate and serial killer Rhys (Speleers), trying to prevent more murders but also not go down for the many he’s committed in the process. The trailer shows Joe and Kate (Ritchie) growing closer, more brushes with Kate’s wealthy socialite friends, and the return of Victoria Pedretti as Joe’s wife Love — or maybe the ghost of his wife, and of sins past.

After splitting off from the Daytime Emmys, the first-ever Children’s & Family Emmys ceremony is here.
Taking place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec. 10, the first night of the festivities focused on the creative arts, with trophies doled out for achievements in writing, directing, voice direction, cinematography, editing and more.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the establishment of the Children’s & Family Emmys in late 2021, nodding to recent growth in scope and reach among that programming, which NATAS president and CEO Adam Sharp said could “stand on its own two feet.” Indeed, younger audiences aren’t strictly daytime cable viewers anymore — much of the innovation in children’s and family TV in recent years has happened in streaming. Case in point: Netflix was nominated for more awards than any other platform, beating even Disney+, Disney Channel and Disney Junior combined.

Plot: After suffering a near-death experience as a young girl, Darby Harper gains the ability to see dead people. As a result, she becomes introverted and shut off from her high school peers and prefers to spend time counseling lonely spirits who have unfinished business on earth. But all that changes when Capri, the Queen Bee of the school’s most exclusive clique, unexpectedly dies in a freak hair straightening accident, resulting in the obvious cancellation of her upcoming “Sweet 17.” Capri, however, pleads with Darby from the other side to intervene and convince Capri’s friends to proceed with the party as planned. In order to appease the wrath of the undead diva, Darby must emerge from her self-imposed exile and reinvent herself — which along the way allows her to find new joy back in the land of the living.

For a movie about a teen who communicates with ghosts, “Darby and the Dead” is awfully dispiriting. Writer Becca Greene (“Good Vibes”) and director Silas Howard (“Dickinson”) casually kill off Darby Harper’s mother in the first minute, spend most of the movie requiring Darby (Riele Downs) to change her entire personality, and then proceed to punish her for following the path they’ve set.
Though the film seems designed to exploit a new generation’s affection for movies like “Clueless,” “Mean Girls,” “Bring it On” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” the filmmakers have missed the messages of those beloved classics altogether. Plus, there’s so much YA streaming content these days that lazily patched-together projects feel, well, extra lazy.
Even Downs, so appealing on Nickelodeon’s “Henry Danger,” can’t fight the forces of this soulless script (which was based on a potentially promising story idea by Wenonah Wilms). As Darby,...

Producer Dan Schneider, the creator of some of television’s most-watched children’s and young adult shows for Nickelodeon before splitting under murky circumstances, has finally addressed what happened.
Schneider and Nickelodeon parted ways in 2018. At the time, Nickelodeon was the highest-rated network on basic cable, and Schneider was the most successful producer in children’s television, with a resume that included the creation and production of such hit shows as iCarly, Drake & Josh, Victorious, Kenan & Kel and Henry Danger.
Now, in his first major interview since splitting with Nickelodeon, he spoke to the New York Times, and indicated he may be planning a comeback from exile.
ViacomCBS, the parent company of Nickelodeon, investigated Schneider before the 2018 split. The Times article said that investigation saw Schneider’s coworkers praised his attention to detail and work ethic, but also indicated that many people he worked with viewed him as verbally abusive.

Eligibility periods be damned. Stranger Things, which hasn’t released a new episode in nearly two years, took home a pair of trophies at the 2021 Kids’ Choice Awards, including Favorite Family TV Show.

Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber took home multiple awards, as did actress Millie Bobby Brown, at Saturday night’s Kids’ Choice Awards hosted by Kenan Thompson.
The 34th annual show aired at 7:30 p.m. Et on Nickelodeon, where “Alexa & Katie” was crowned the favorite kids’ show, but “Stranger Things” won for favorite family show. Brown, who stars in the Netflix drama, was named favorite television actress and favorite film actress. Winners are determined by fan votes.
Grande and Bieber won for favorite female and male recording artists, respectively, while their joint hit “Stuck With U” won for favorite collaboration. Bieber also performed at the show.
Like just about everything else over the past year, the Kids’ Choice Awards were held virtually, but there were still plenty of fun moments, I including the cast of “iCarly” reuniting to present the award for favorite movie. And, of course, there were...

Firefly Lane topped Nielsen’s U.S. streaming rankings for the week of February 1 to 7, with WandaVision recording its best week yet in terms of total viewing.
With 1.3 billion total minutes of viewing for its 10 episodes, Firefly Lane was the only title north of the 1 billion mark for the week. Based on the novel by Kristin Hannah, the drama stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke. It is created and executive produced by Maggie Friedman, who is known for shows like Witches of East End.
WandaVision, on Disney+, notched a series high with 589 million of viewing across five half-hour episodes. It was the lone non-Netflix entrant in the top 10. Because of the Disney release pattern, episodes have rolled out weekly after the first two appeared at the same time on January 15. As with The Mandalorian, the release strategy has allowed the Marvel show to gradually build audience and buzz. While it ranked No.

In a rare week where no single program exceeded the 1 billion minute threshold, mystery police procedural “Criminal Minds,” a recurring top performer in Nielsen’s regular Weekly Top 10 list, towered over all other programs available on subscription-based streaming platforms with 0.98 million viewing minutes for Jan. 25 through the end of the month. The CBS cult-classic also ended up in the number one slot on Nielsen’s Weekly Top 10 Acquired Content.
In addition to the acquired content list, the global marketing research firm will also be pushing out weekly Top 10 lists that take into consideration original programming and movies in an effort to provide an expanded and more inclusive look at most streamed programs for that given week. First in originals was Shondaland’s first steamy scripted Netflix show “Bridgerton,” which garnered about 0.94 billion minutes of watch time across its only 8 episodes on Netflix.
