Zach's personal items were used in the movie, including the signature quilt on his bed, "Pants." tee, red plaid shirt worn when recording the song "Clouds", his red and black crutches, and a pair of crazy mirror eye sunglasses.
Justin Baldoni asked Fin to write a quick song to sing in the movie. Fin started with a few lines and a chord progression. He later found Zach had also written that same chord progression in his songwriting journal, unused in any of his songs. Fin used a few phrases Zach had written in letters and his journal, and the original song "My Little Dancer" came to life. The end credits show songwriting credit given to Fin Argus and Zach Sobiech.
This movie was based on Laura Sobiech's memoir "Fly a Little Higher: How God Answered a Mom's Small Prayer in a Big Way" published in 2014.
Everything in Zach Sobiech's room was transported to the film set and was placed the exact same way his room looked in real life in the room that was constructed for the movie.
The flannel shirt that Fin Argus wears in the movie when recording the song Clouds is the actual shirt of Zach Sobiech's that he wore when recording the song in real life.
