Really disturbing movie
15 July 2001
Some movies don't let you go away and can't leave you peacefully. This french movie (even if some of the actors are american) is one of these. Under the umbrella of directors like John Carpenter (Crash),David Lynch (Lost Highway) or Nagisa Oshima (In the realm of the senses), Claire Denis explores the relationships between men and women under an extreme point of view. Two of the characters (Vincent Gallo and Beatrice Dalle) are affected by a strange illness: they need to have violent sexual relationships with unknown people and to kill these people by biting and eating them during the sex act. Some of the scenes are really inbearable and really moving. On the other end, the director's point of view is really original: the movie is really esthetic (it's really not just another gore movie). There are a lot of extreme close-ups, even during the sex acts, and I think only a woman can shoot women bodies like this. Some scenes are really erotic before they turn into slaughter. I think it's a really thrilling movie that moves you for a long time...

Post-Apocalyptic movie
1 May 2001
In southern France, in a quite little town, the mayor, who also owns a castle with some cattle, is in the wine cellar with some other people: the pharmacist, the veterinary, and some of his employees. As they are drinking wine, they hear a terrible noise and the heat's getting higher and higher.

They don't realise what's happening: when they come out of the cellar, they realise that everything has burned, and all the buildings are destroyed...

The movie has a classic plot: after the apocalypse, some survivors try to build again a new life, trying to cultivate the land to eat, they also have to defend themselves against some others survivors who try to steel their food... The actors are really good (like Michel Serrault or the singer Jacques Dutronc) and it's really well directed. The director of photography has done a excellent job to: the painting of the post-apocalytic landscapes is really brilliant...

Quite a good movie in fact, although it's a little to long

Very good and funny movie, by a great writer
26 November 2000
Michel Audiard, the great scenarist of cult movies like "Les tontons flingueurs" or "Les barbouzes" now direct this movie. You can find in this film all the elements that made him famous: great dialogs (really fun), lots of comic situations... The story is about a guy (Jean Carmet), who still lives with his mother, who try to sell some really awful alcohol to bar tenders. The only way for him to do this is to cry and invent himself an awful life. Then, he mets the beautiful Jane Birkin, who plays the role of a woman whose goal in life is to sleep with the less excinting guys on Earth. All the cast is great and you'll really enjoy this movie.

Funny movie about drug selling in Paris
26 November 2000
This movie is about two brothers (J. Villeret, G. Lanvin), trying to make money in a business they know nothing about (drug selling). Their ignorance of this business is the occasion of lots of funny situations. The classic opposition between the weak and legalist guy and the strong works once again very well. Although some aspects seems a little dated (the movie takes place in the 80's) and the music not really great, this movie's gonna give you some moments of fun. To be seen if you're bad mooded!!!
