Crossfire Trail (2001)
Thoroughly Disappointed
I enjoy watching Tom Selleck films, reading Louis L'Amour books, and usually watching Tom Selleck in a Louis L'Amour story. While this movie by itself could have been pretty good, it was ruined for me by the fact that they completely changed the original story line. I can understand needing to make a few changes here and there for a screen play, but to change the story all together is inexcusable. I was thoroughly disappointed. I hope Tom's next Louis L'Amour film will be better.
Return to Me (2000)
Overall great movie-for men & women
This is truly a great movie. I've always liked Bonnie Hunt's work, and now I like her even more. I remember seeing the ads for it when it was in the theaters and thinking, "That looks pretty funny." But I didn't see it until it was out on video, which is when I realized that it is not only funny, but is a great drama/love story as well. I promptly went out and bought it. Even my husband, my dad, & my father-in-law loved it. The only downside was it had a little too much profanity, but it wasn't overly crude and was tolerable b/c it fit so well with the characters (John Belushi was great as usual). I've recommended this movie to several people and everyone has absolutely loved it.
Green Mansions (1959)
Read the book instead
I read this book in 8th grade English & loved it. After we finished reading the book, we watched the movie and I was thoroughly disappointed. They completely changed the ending, turning it into a sappy, everything's right in the world, Hollywood ending instead of the tragic ending of the book. Happy endings are great, but if you're going to make a movie from a book you should at least try to stay as close to the story line as possible. I'm normally a big Audrey Hepburn fan, but even she couldn't salvage this one for me. Don't waste your time with this movie-read the book instead.
