In 2015, Hawley opened at the San Francisco Improv Festival with Leela’s Armando Company and its founder, Armando Diaz and performed with Leela’s Armando Company at the SF Sketchfest. Pamela has performed with the award-winning Opening People's Minds (OPM), and won the award for Best Sketch Comedy in 2009 at the San Francisco Fringe Fest 2009, garnering praise from reviewers such as LA Weekly. “Pamela Hawley is one of the best improv actresses I've ever seen. Brilliant. She engages with energy, spirit, and a level of daring and bravery one rarely sees. She combines intellect, integrity and emotion, and she's one of our strongest character actresses, able to play someone 30 years younger or 60 years older. High energy or the subtlest touch. I've seen her in sketches on the Groundlings stage and a fully improvised long-form musical. A must-see, for any director wanting to work with an improv actress who listens and responds perfectly at the moment with her partner.”

Sweet Sensations! Fully Improvised Musical 2011
Pamela Hawley is one of the lead actresses in this fully improvised musical. Enjoy this global intrigue as the goofy detectives take on the greatest Drug Dealer in Mexico and his 'sweets' factory dealing in "Cocahina."

Received Best Sketch Comedy Award

“Sweet Sensations”: Fully Improvised Musical with Pamela Hawley
http://vimeo.com/25724888
"Sweet Sensations" is a 40-minute fully improvised musical, with Pamela Hawley as one of the main actresses. The improvised play is based only on audience suggestion: The improvisers were given the genre of Film Noir and the title of “Sweet Sensations.” The troupe then improvises a full play with scenes, song and dance, this time partially influenced by the artistic style of Bob Fosse. The result is a hilarious story about two detectives investigating a Mexican candy factory dealing in "Cocahina," including machine guns, romance, a brutal drug lord and an improvised "nude" scene. Join the fun as the improvisers jump between multiple characters and languages, often within a single scene, in a non-stop and high-energy ride.

In the Good Old Summertime (1949)
Great movie and clear plot; kind, joyful, simple
Great movie and clear plot; kind, joyful, simple.
Judy Garland is an unbelievable talent. Both her singing, expressions and acting are top notch. I don't know as much about Van but he did very well in his role and a very strong lead. Something to watch how he led the movie and his relationship with her.
Van's voice sounds like a combination of James Stewart and Owen comedian guy.
Good character work by all the supporting characters.
And a treat! Buster Keaton in a fairly straightforward role, not overly comedic. Yet he has one time he stumbles down the stairs, and he's fluid and brilliant. A master of so many types of comedy and definitely physical.
Reminds me of Shop Around the Corner, but less arguing and more pleasant which was a relief.
A great movie you'll want to see again.
Some Like It Hot (1959)
Classic Comedy with Multiple Allstar Actors and Resilient Ending
Classic Comedy with Multiple Allstar Actors and Resilient Ending
Yes Tony Curtis, Jack Lennon and Marilyn Monroe- all great actors. But there are others too they should not be overlooked!
George Raft- an impeccable actor and gangster. He was so believable, curt and dry. He was steel.
Joe E Brown. He almost steals the show at the end with well written and perfectly delivered lines. He's top notch. And it is so funny, leading to truthful comments about society. I was a bit in shock when I first headed those final lines! Risqué and true, for the time period. It also forecasted our future!
Tony Curtis mid Atlantic Cary Grant accent was something to study.
I would have liked to see Jerry Lewis in the role opposite Tony Curtis. They were friends and their energy would have bounced off each other. He was planned as first choice, but he didn't want to play or be typecast as a woman. A significant loss for him and the film. His powers of physical contortion and slapstick would have taken this to another level.
Marilyn is so unique, so charming and someone you just want to hug. Tony Curtis is multi level talented. George Raft is an icon-- and Joe E Brown is an icon. The supporting characters are just as important and interesting.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)
Great solid comedy with 3 Greats of comedy: Caine, Steve Martin, Glenn Headly
Great solid comedy with 3 Greats of comedy: Michael Caine, Steve Martin, Glenn Headly.
Great character work, clear plot and expert actors. A joy to watch. And it's so well written. It just flows and is so easy to follow and enjoy. Would love to see more with Steve Martin and Michael Caine! A great duo. They have a super rapport.
It was intention after the other, one upping each other which was so fun to see! It happened 10x.
I like that the different styles of the two scoundrels makes the movie great. They con in different ways! Great tag teaming and one upsmanship.
A loss with Glenn Headly, a super dramatic and comedic actress. Look up her other work and keep her spirit alive.
A classic comedy.
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982)
See It For Comedic Technique.
It's a brilliant movie from the perspective that Steve Martin and Carl Reiner write together, using old movies as the characters in the movies. We see interspersed clips from Maltese Falcon, and star greats such as Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney and Ingrid Bergman and Joan Crawford. Those are the actors/characters in the film.
Writing to these film noir excerpts, timing and then simulating the Steve Martin part of the scene that must look the same as the original 40sfilm, was executed well. That's not easy. It's worth it just for this technique. It's also fun to see the old 40s stars.
Actors Rachel Ward And Carl Reiner do a great job in the only other real roles.
Not easy to do, interesting, fun. But also some old comedy that doesn't always land today. Some if the plot was a little unclear. A lot going on with the real characters and a lot going in with existing within the 40s movies. .
Good to watch and learn. Steve Martin, and Carl Reiner-. So smart!
50 First Dates (2004)
Solid romantic comedy
Great acting and interesting premise of a girl who must be reminded of what her life is - and a Aman wanting to help remind her. It's solid good comedy an d also heartfelt. The only thing is that it makes it too light what the impact of memory loss can be. You have to let that reality go. Not remembering is completing disorienting and alienating. So some discomfort there.
Sandler is very good about choosing his leading ladies. They work with well with him and he knows the importance of chemistry. A fun engaging movie that moves your heart. Light hearted.
Weee used to a lot of sloppy joke humor from Sandler and he plays it straight here. It's no surprise that he's a good dramatic actor, being the fine comedian he is.
High Society (1956)
Loved this move and would see again. Such star power!
Loved this move and would see again. Such star power!
Amázing!!! Grace Kelly with her elegance. Her comedic drink routine for the journalists is hilarious. You have Bing Crosby and Cole Porter and frank Sinatra'. You watch just for that.
The plot seemed a bit far fetched--but then fun!
Just go with it and many twists and turns.
Not sure some of the relationship matchups but I wonder if they felt pressure to make everyone get married, just because that was the time period. Some seemed too contrived. Some if it felt forced and too quick or just didn't make sense. Still a very Fun romp with excellent music.
Also go Judy to see Grace Kelly. Her acting was good here, and her design outfits were stunning. That's even worth to it.
It's fun. Star players. Greasy music and a farcical plot. Enjoy to and I'll see it again!
The Apartment (1960)
You'll want to see this. Great acting and writing.
You'll want to see this. Great acting and writing. Billy Wilder at his best. Excellent commentary on love, workplace, women's rights.
The writing is clear and tight. The character development is so very well dime. You get to know them so very well. You get a good lens into the limitations of work for women. The affairs at work-- all too common in the 50s and 60s and how they maneuvered them.
Jack Lemmon is not one of my favorite actors and he is too birch. He's just a great actor. Nuanced, real and you trust he is doing the right thing or will do the right thing.
Shirley McLaine is authentic and luminous.
Birth are good people but have strong failings, making them relatable.
Fred McMurray is a shock and he is such a good Lérida in real life. His understated nefariousness is chilling to watch. A great, underrated actor.
Work History
It's enjoyable and amazing to watch a piece from 1960- and how much the workplace has changed! The work scene shows dozens of rows of desks and workers. What a change from 60 years later! Now in Silicon Valley workplaces look like living rooms and do comfy. It's. A bit of a shock and good to see how strict and uniform it is, to understand what it is was like to climb the corporate. Ladder.
It's not a comedy. It's a drama. Be prepared for some heavy issues, with some comedic moments. Excellent commentary on love, workplace, women's rights.
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936)
A great comedy with start actors
A great comedy with start actors! Jean Arthur has such a way!
Her genuine acting and voice tone are so unique. Sincere and velvety. You'd want to se this, just for her.
Gary Cooper is beyond gorgeous and plays the "unknowing" inheritor well.
They are a good pair.
Seeing a 1930s movie really shows you too the time period. So that alone is interesting.
There is sincerity, goodness and the importance of doing the right thing. The two twin sister are a delight, too. Watch the food character acting.
Highly recommended and you'll want to watch again. Also, good physical
Humor too. There are many levels of humor.
Double Indemnity (1944)
Superclassic and súper writing and direction
What an amazing noir. So many twists and turns.....the writing is tight and you can see how well it works. It's beautiful to see excellent writing in action!
Stanwyck is cool calm cold. Perfect fit. Fred McMurray is a very talented actor and will always carry the day. He delivers the dialogue all perfectly but I couldn't quite get that he was this dastardly insurance fellow. Too much of a leap for me and I feel he was miscast.
Many twist and turns to think about.
Robinson is a great actor with such depth.
Something you could watch multiple times and watch how well done it was. The direction and writing superb. Billy Wilder!
North by Northwest (1959)
Stunning timeless movie.
You can't miss with this one!
A great mystery. Great suspense. Eve is a cool as can be. Cary and she are a perfect match.
Great, coolness under pressure acting. Multiple time they almost die and lots of twists and turns. Fun jump cuts and great chemistry.
Would be good to watch again.
Eve won an academy award on her first movie- Waterfront with Brando. A true star and still alive today, approaching 100.
Live his all the intrigue and rough capers are all
In suits! No casual wear here.
Really great ups and downs, reunions and separations and a smart use jump cuts. Ends abruptly in a good way.
9 or 10. Classic, always!
To Catch a Thief (1955)
A stunning, fun mystery with Grant and Kelly. So enjoyable!
A stunning, fun mystery with Grant and Kelly. So enjoyable!
You can watch this again and again because if the scenery, the costumes, winning characters. It's got a tight well written script.
Enjoy this caper amongst the Riviera. Many twists and turns intertwined with beautiful ksndscosyes, wardrobes and Grace Kelly.
Watch the suave ending. He pulls her hand towards him...... and then her final comment and final scene is with just one eye and part of his face. A strong, fun ending. Nice balance of qualities.
A good mention of the importance of women as well, even in 1955. It's a start.
Great movie!
American Underdog (2021)
A good film; inspirational and practical about following your dream.
A good film; inspirational and practical about following your dream.
Not easy. Be 27 and your first time out in the field in the NFL.
A lot lot lot of setbacks.
And yet Warner succeeds in life and it's a testament to us all.
And so we should pursue as well. He had to go after her dreams thrift 5 levels of sweats. And he made it and made it significantly.
Features prominently the life of Brenda and how much impact they have on each other.
For anyone doubting their dream.... Time to go after it. And you never give up until the final day. Not sure your give up then either. You live for the dream.
How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)
Beautiful Comedic Film
Beautiful comic film
Just lovely with all the beautiful dresses, colors and layering. It's was beautiful just for that!
Marilyn Monroe is a sweetheart Timmerman singing to watch. Lauren BeCall is just good. Convincing and such a stunner. Betty Grable a great and fun actress.
A simple premise. Fun and light. And keeps it enjoyable and focused right on track. So funny that the guy who owns the aoartment ends up with one of the girls.
Part of the best of the movie is William Powell. Always elegant and a joy to watch. Here he brings groundededness and keeps the plot on track. You just trust him. He's an anchoe actor.
Song of the Thin Man (1947)
Wonderful chemistry and banter in a 1947 movie
Wonderful chemistry and banter in a 1947 movie. Myrna Loy and William Powell take us through the solving of a case of murder.
Great banter, light jokes, some corny lines. It's all fun. Lovely to see period dresses, black and white and elegant dining and entertaining spots.
Great classical
Music throughout, heightening the mystery. These classical sound tracks are a joy!
The only downside is that the plot was convoluted. It was hard to follow. The good news was that at last 5 people/ couples could have done it. Bit it was agree to follow. It shows you how far writing has come. Writing has become simpler and more elegant. Here it was just hard to pick up where we were in the 5 guilty possibilities storylines.
Still you can relax and just let them tell you. It's lovely down to earth fun. Powell and Loy are a delight.
The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing (1955)
Great job by Joan Collins; Ray Milland is always a treat; Farley Grainger was a revelation.
Great actors here. Joan Collins did a beautiful job. It was supposed to be Marilyn Monroe. It seemed kind was a better fit.
Good acting always by Ray Milland, and their love seemed authentic but corrupted. It's not clear. Implement why she married granger character as he didn't provide enough calm, stability, peace. Granger did an excellent job being spoiled and unbridled and obsessed.
Some good twists and turns and Edie silly on the witness stand. Hard to imagine someone sort of defending your husband who created a murder f your favorite lover. And the turn of the mother in law was chilling.
The downside of this romantic story is that a lot of it is Hollywood washed. The Millard character didn't really love Joan's character. He was a huge womanizer. And di everyone was less caring, less invested, and it just made it all unsavory lives, although interesting.
How to Steal a Million (1966)
A sweet comedy
This is a sweet comedy with many great actors. It's innocent, joy filled and a fun plot. There is a fun twist at the end and they keep you guessing. Silly, fun, good acting.
At times it might be considered a little slow, just because so many.movies theses days are so quick do action packed. But this is a slide quirky story and relax into it and let it unfold. Enjoy these great scours who all signed in- Hepburn, Peter O Toole, high Griffeth, Eli Wallach and Charles Boyer. It's funny for they time period, and a good watch one time.
Seeing how the caper might evolve is fun. The trainer is fun and will give you a good idea of the silliness and the mindset to have as you go in and watch. Enjoy!
Ferrari (2023)
Solid serious biography
A solid serious biography here. Good effort at acting but didn't seem like the right actors for the film.
Good to watch once as an understand how difficult it was to. Hold and maintain one so the top elite car companies in the work.
What was hard were the semi accents supposedly Italian. You got the seriousness of Enzo. And partly Italian, but just felt a bit posed too forced. See it messed to be in Italian tog et that true cultural feel. So it was well acted. But felt a little fake.
I love Michael Mann. Excellent director. A good effort here in a genre he's not accustomed to. Good scenes on what happens in such a dangerous sport. Good overall life view of what Enzo faced.
Remember the Titans (2000)
Good inspirational and historical time period sports movie- Great producer
A great and inspirational historical movie by legendary producer Jerry Bruckenheimer. Jerry knows what audiences like and puts together a compelling movie accessible to all.
Good actors.
Strong historical placement into racial strife in the south- a good reminder of our history.
Integration of a football team and all the dynamics on and off field. A good family movie to start the understanding of what integration was and racial issues. You'd need different movies, books, documentaries to go really in depth into the perils and discrimination that occurred with segregation.
Well acted, thoughtful and at times comedic. Great for any sports fan.
The Express (2008)
A Beautifully done Documentary on A Sports Leader who impacted lives
A beautifully acted sports documentary about Ernie a black football player. He broke down barriers in his own way, broke down racial lines through his playing. He was a strong bullet on the field and the movie shows authentic footage. He's inspirational, perseverant and indicates generations to come. The biography will affect your life too!
First conference championship win and first Weisman to a black. Great historical impact too.
It's a real, unique and heartfelt story that should be more well known. It is inspirational but has a real life ending...
Wonderful acting by Dennis Quaid the coach.
The Great Rupert (1950)
A sweet Christmas formTo see once.
A sweet Christmas dilm to see once. It's heartfelt, predictable and nuts. This animated squirrel
Helps save the family during Christmas. It's interesting to see the technology then, too. It's heartfelt and clear story line, a good Christmas feel good movie.
However, the squirrel is hard to get over. I'm really watching a squirrel? And then about 5 plot lines regarding love, justice, helping/saving people, people finding their homes, fame, a strong work ethic - and more issues and plot lines all come together in the end, all ties perfectly. So you'll feel good but there's about 10 moral points that all get solved when it could just be 1-2. It's a lot and it helps you see how much movie writing has progressed.
It's good to see the powerful force of Jimmy Durante.
It's fun. It's silly. I'd see it once. :).
Merry Christmas!
Love Me or Leave Me (1955)
Solid Showing All Actors
A very good movie showing the unique drive of diner Etta g in the early 20s. You admire their ambition when it was not encouraged with women at the time.
The story progresses well and shows the process up and down, as well as with the marriage.
But it's hard to see, as her future husband Alderman says - it doesn't need to be this way. She is beautiful and talented to be able to make it on her own. So why does she rely on such a gangster brute for career?
The movie unfortunately has an inauthentic turn at the end. Snyder shoots Alderman, and Etting still dedicates her concert to him and helps save his failing club. But he just shot your future husband? She justifies it saying how much he did for her. And in true life Etying give 50 percent to Snyder upon divorce, and mentioned because of his help.
The movie is interesting and enjoyable. Cagney's performance is chilling as a gangster obsessed. Doris Day is undeniable talent but I can't fully get beyond she is Doris Day
Still a solidly acted movie, characters and songs. And to see the time period.
Worth a watch!
Midway (1976)
Great depiction of war
Compelling, insightful storyline on WW2 Battle of Midway. Action packed, brought you to the war scene. Good footage of real life situations. And a stellar, high octane cast.
It's always a good reminder to see how our forces fight for us and fight for freedom.
We don't expect the same production values as today. So interesting to see how they put together past footage and new movie scenes. Very well done!
Cliff Robertson was right about on, especially in his reactions - so deep but subtile- when Garth retuned from battle.
Heston very strong. And a small part for Robert Wagner.
Great score by John Williams! Classical music at its best.
Moneyball (2011)
Positive and realistic movie
This one was sincere and heartfelt. It's a true story about following your dreams. And how life can not pan out the way you hoped, Take different twists and turns, and still be beautiful.
Yes it is about changing a team, defining success in a new way, being a path breaker. It pointed to a new way in evaluating wins and successes in any field. And the courage it takes to break the mold in any field.
But on a higher level: dreams achieved and not achieved. Dreams of the main stage but the confidence erodes. Talent but the inability to perform on the level expected. The challenges of Constraint of money.
Developing a pioneering system-- Being recognized for it with world record of 20 straight wins! - but not with a series win. It seemed very real life. I appreciated this realism, thought it was so well developed and a real trajectory of a man's journey, self questioning, not successes and success. And getting the chance to lead GM of the Red Sox that won thee series 2 years later, but turned it down. It wasn't right for him. Choose your path, and there is not one path to success. You define what peace and success mean to you.
Jonah Hill is an excellent dramatic actor and also great, great timing. You'll
Never seen him just say words. He's in the character, always.
Desk Set (1957)
A solid Hepburn movie
It's a solid Hepburn movie with Katherine in excellent shape at age 50. She's remarkable!
Great comedic timing, banter and clear plot. Wonderful supportive women actresses. And Joan Blondell is lovely and engaged. Gig Young is a favorite as he nails his character in a persuasive way.
1957, and we're still discussing about how tech replaces people, although now it's more about AI amd robotics.
The Hepburn Tracy connection seemed positive but not spellbinding . I didn't see her romantically with either of them, and not Tracy here...
A fun view of the 1950s office with brimming empowerment for women, alcohol and smoking.
A good solid comedy for the family.
The Fabelmans (2022)
A Beautifully Accomplished Story on Life Calling and Divorce
A beautiful story with Spielberg opening up about his life, family relationships and finding his calling. It's a beautiful on how divorce can occur. Steven Spielberg opens up his family history and invites us in to see how marital relationships are built up or brought down.
Paul Dano does a beautiful job as does the young
Stephen Spielberg. Beautifying even tough times in life.
Am inspiring break through witnbiis uter
It's a vulnerable testament of how a famous person can share their lives. It takes such courage and provides enlightenment. Yes it is about his calling in film-- but so much more.
