Bubble (I) (2005)

I didn't like it at all
6 September 2005
Last Saturday afternoon, Sept 3rd, 2005 I saw the film "Bubble" at the Lido of Venice and the director Steven Soderbergh was there in the theater. I didn't like it at all. This film tells about the odd life of three workers - two women and a young guy, in a factory of dolls in Ohio. Martha (a fat woman aged 45 more or less) and Kyle, a nice guy aged about 28 have been working for years and they are friends. This equilibrium is disturbed from the arrival of a new colleague, Rose, a girl aged about 23 or 24 that has a little daughter aged 2. Rose is not married. Martha is upset from the relation that Rose undertakes with Kyle.. The attempt of the three workers to construct a deeper tie vanishes with the mysterious death of Rose. I won't tell you who is the murderer, but it would be easy to find out also for a child aged 6. A minimalist film of Soderbergh. I didn't like it at all, though the public at the Lido of Venice applauded it.

Roma (1972)

Roma
28 May 2005
Roma explores the city of Rome from several different perspectives, giving it a mystical life of its own that hangs in the balance between its rich history and its modern identity. With no real chronology, Roma is a tapestry of bizarre scenes and familiar images that blend together into a gorgeous visual carnival. Typical of Fellini, with the carnival comes a critique--and Roma tears through the city's political and religious history, satirizing the Catholic church and various faces of Italian government from Renaissance times through Mussolini's reign and on into the 1960s. While the camera lavishes affectionately over Rome's art and architecture and is clearly a tribute to the Eternal City, most of the sets in the film are constructed, reinforcing Fellini's narrative imagination and keeping viewers caught in a perpetual contradiction between reality and fantasy, history and the present, fact and fiction.
