- Sam Corwin, stage line owner and camp bully, makes unwelcome love to Polly, daughter of an old prospector. The old man drives him off the place at gunpoint and Sam conspires to have the old man sent to prison. He stages a fake hold-up, leaving the old man's hat on the scene. This is managed with the connivance of one of Sam's stage drivers. By one of those far-fetched coincidences of the screen the whole plot is unfolded to a stranger in those parts, and he impersonates the hold-up artist, double-crossing the plotters, vindicating the old man, overthrowing the villains, and in the end winning the girl.
- Upon rescuing Betty Hampton, the sheriff's daughter, when she is thrown from her horse, cowboy Bob Benton promptly falls in love with her. Their romance is cut short, though, when the sheriff notifies his daughter that she is needed at home. While on his way to visit Betty, Bob sees a man shot and killed, and capturing his runaway horses, Bob takes them to town. Meanwhile, the real killers, Deputy Sheriff Joe Rollins and his gang, decide to frame Bob for the crime, and upon his arrival he is thrown into jail. Rollins plots to lynch Bob but is forestalled by a dance hall girl. Betty, apprised of Rollins' plot, helps Bob to escape. Later, Rollins kidnaps Betty, and while Bob fights to rescue his sweetheart, the crooked deputy is killed by a stray bullet from one of his gang. Bob is cleared of the crime and becomes both the new deputy and Betty's husband.
- Dick Talmadge leads a double life: normally he is the indolent son of Parker Talmadge, the controlling power in the flour market, but sometimes he masquerades as "The Unknown," a masked champion of the people and leader of the fight against high prices. Parker Talmadge and sugar baron J. Malcolm Sweet agree that Dick should marry J. Malcolm's daughter, Sylvia Sweet, but Sylvia disapproves of Dick's worthlessness and considers The Unknown the man of her dreams. A raid on the profiteers' stored goods causes a panic among financiers, who unsuccessfully set detectives on The Unknown's trail, then stage a grand reception as a trap for their populist enemy. The plot fails, but Dick is unmasked in a fight. Sylvia changes her mind about the young man, and all ends happily.
