The two find an occasion to buy a horse for only two dollars, and start entering competitions. Goldie is an instant celebrity, but his mom reads the newspapers and tracks him down. Mason is very surprised to see her, his ex-wife, and even more astonished to hear that Goldie is his own son. However, Goldie must go back to school and so they decide to keep the secret. Since Goldie does not want to leave Mason behind, the latter goes to the bookies and fixes the next race, hoping to disappoint Goldie by asking him to lose on purpose.
- Joe Weiler has instigated a conflict over water rights between two ranchers. The idea is to have the ranchers do each other in then move in and take over. Hoppy and the good guys won't let this happen.
- Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman Sandy Sanderson (Russell Hayden) is given the task of rounding up a gang of fur thieves led by his twin brother Johnny (Russell Hayden). The brother, by masquerading as Sandy in a Mountie uniform, puts suspicion of fur stealing and murder on Sandy. Sandy narrowly escapes a lynching before escaping and bringing his brother and the rest of the gang to justice.
- A woman's husband has disappeared on an expedition into the jungle. She hires a guide to take her into the jungle to find him. However, they discover that he has been captured by a savage female tribe.
- An orphan boy on his way to live with his uncle picks up a stray dog, and the two become fast friends. However, the uncle doesn't want the dog, and when chickens are found dead, the uncle accuses the dog of killing them. The boy decides that it's time he and the dog hit the road so they run away, and meet up with an elderly man who also ran away from a home where he believed he wasn't wanted either.
- Police Lieutenant Lacey, with aid from Coach Bettger, heads a crackdown on dope-peddling to high-school athletes. One kid dies from an overdose, two more kill a gas-station attendant in an aborted holdup attempt to get money to buy dope, and a third dies in a fall in a condemned empty building while fleeing from the law. Aided by some outraged students, the dope pusher is brought to justice.
- An "exotic dancer" is thrown in jail for "lewd activity." She later discovers the raid was set up by her boss to get publicity.
- Fanning has his men rustle horses and then blame it on a wild horse named Wildfire. Happy and Alkali arrive and immediately get into trouble with Fanning and his men. When Alkali is shot, Happy catches the outlaws but the Judge not only releases them, he discharges the Sheriff and tries to arrest Happy for rustling. Happy escapes and he and the Sheriff then set out to prove who the real rustlers are.
- Lorna Drake has inherited a ranch. Hoppy teaches her a bit about ranching and handles Scar Lewis, the bad guy, in the process.

- Johnny, who is a returning veteran unable to adjust to his old life in his home town, succumbs to the pitch of a Ku Klux Klan organizer. It is only after he has worn the Klan sheet, and gone out on some raids, that he begins to realize what he has let himself in for; he is filled with horror and remorse when he sees the homes of neighbors burned, an old friend who defies the Klan killed, and his own wheel-chair father badly beaten. He meets with the State prosecutor, admits his own participation, and agrees to help bring down the Klan in his town.
- A town bedeviled with outlaws sends for Hoppy, Lucky. and California after their own vigilante committee fails to solve the town's problems. Hoppy discovers that the bad guys are led by the town boss--and so are the vigilantes.

- Based on and built around the west coast radio program, "The Hollywood Barn Dance", although no members of the 1947 cast of the program are in the film, but the better-known (on a national scale) Ernest Tubb and His Texas Troubadors, Jack Guthrie and Jimmy and Leon Short more than make up for that. The slight plot, around 18 songs, begins with Tubb and his band searching for $2000 needed to rebuild their town chuch after it burned down while they were rehearsing in it. Hollywood, here they come.
