- Professor Lobster (Ken Martin) is a "wise old man from the bottom of the sea" who teaches a studio of children about building and building materials, with the phrase "If you don't know - ask!"
- In series 1, Erasmus leads 2 bored children through history meeting history's greatest scientists. In series 2, Erasmus returns from a sojourn as an Inspector of Black Holes for the Univerrsal Space Federation to chase Dr. Dark through time. Dr. Dark, a being from a parallel universe, is trying to plunge the Erath into a new dark age.
- Professor Lobster begins his series by showing children the benefits of stone. His techniques include taking his assistant Liz to Stonehenge, and illustrating compression by getting children to sit on each other.
- Professor Lobster looks at how wood is better at handling tension than stone, even if stone is better at compression. Part of his presentation includes the "Professor Lobster Truss Fashion Show".
- The Professor looks at the world of bridges and how different metals are used to make them, including cast iron. Yet with his many food references, Lizzy is worried that he's turning the programme into a cookery show.
- The Professor takes Lizzy on trips through time: back to the 19th century for the beginning of Crystal Palace, and into the future for the advent of smart buildings.
- The increasingly eccentric Professor decides to bring a tarantula and an Indian Python into the studio in order to illustrate the nature of irrational prejudice - and how he hopes people don't have the same prejudice towards concrete.
- Liz and the helpers are taken on a journey through the structure of tents and fabrics. However, as it's the last show of the series, there's also a special cake and party, with Professor Lobster getting to show off some of his dance moves.
