- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.Easily the greatest movie ever made. Limited amounts of green-screen effects allow for this movie to use story to keep the audience interested. Visual effects in-camera allow for the movie to have great art direction and cinematography while still concentrating on story, acting and the musical score.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business.David Fincher has been an amazing director of the 90s and he may get his director Oscar this year with The Social Network. Regardless of him believing that the praise for the movie is unfounded, it's an amazing film. It's one of my top favourites of all time, not just the year.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsNatalie PortmanMila KunisVincent CasselNina is a talented but unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom. Pushed to the breaking point by her artistic director and a seductive rival, Nina's grip on reality slips, plunging her into a waking nightmare.I was opposed to seeing this even after I thought the trailer looked great. I didn't think Natalie Portman could carry a film. I didn't believe people when they told me that Darren's direction and the movie's cinematography were amazing. But I was wrong, clearly. This is the third best film of the year.
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsMichael CeraMary Elizabeth WinsteadKieran CulkinIn a magically realistic version of Toronto, a young man must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes one by one in order to win her heart.Despite being a box-office flop, Scott Pilgrim is a genre-busting movie that is underrated sometimes. It truly is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and it touches on each generation while making the main audience of teens continuously laughing throughout the entire film. It's a great movie for everything it shows. And I'm not a Michael Cera fan.
- DirectorMatt ReevesStarsKodi Smit-McPheeChloë Grace MoretzRichard JenkinsA bullied young boy befriends a young female vampire who lives in secrecy with her guardian.Let Me In is hardly a horror film, but it's a movie that trumps over Twilight in the romance-vampire movie category. I despise Twilight, just by the name, without even seeing it. I know that it's absurdly in accurate telling of vampires. Let Me In is done brilliantly and allows for people to go and view the original Let the Right One In.
- DirectorBen AffleckStarsBen AffleckRebecca HallJon HammA proficient group of thieves rob a bank and hold an assistant manager hostage. Things begin to get complicated when one of the crew members falls in love with her.Ben Affleck has grown-up since the 90s. He's matured as an actor and proved it in this. He plays a bad-ass bank robber here and this film is easily compared to Heat. I was also surprised at the direction and the story. It wasn't entirely predictable and it was great directing from Ben. It's definitely a top film of the year and decade.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Mickey RourkeGwyneth PaltrowWith the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy.Hardly does a sequel come out and make a top ten movies of the year list. But Iron Man 2 was a good enough sequel for me to put in the top ten. I'd prefer to say Iron Man 2 was a better sequel than Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows (Part I). It sincerely was, despite Harry's last book being followed nearly to perfection. I was pleasantly surprised at Iron Man 2 and am sad that it probably won't have a good third chapter.
- DirectorJohn Erick DowdleStarsChris MessinaCaroline DhavernasBokeem WoodbineA group of people are trapped in an elevator and the Devil is mysteriously amongst them.I may be in the minority, but I believe that Devil was a great horror film for its time. The story by M. Night was truly interesting and disturbing. It had everything it needed. I loved the way the movie played out and I loved Logan's performance in the film. I enjoyed the movie for the fact that M. Night wrote only the story and merely produced it. He didn't direct nor write the screenplay. I liked that very much.
- DirectorShawn LevyStarsSteve CarellTina FeyMark WahlbergIn New York City, a case of mistaken identity turns a bored married couple's attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening into something more thrilling and dangerous. It was one of the first films of the year that I saw in theatres. I liked the comedy and I'm a Steve Carell fan and Tina Fey fan. I really liked the story. I thought it was one of the funniest movies I've seen and I liked the amount of romance in it.
- DirectorNathan GrenoByron HowardStarsMandy MooreZachary LeviDonna MurphyThe magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.It was hard to say that Tangled is better than How to Train Your Dragon, but I think it is. It's a cute film and I think with the horse and chameleon, it is way cuter than HTTYD. Perhaps the only flaw for Tangled for me was the high amount of musical numbers. I would've been happier if it was just a regular movie. Still, I enjoyed both a lot. Tangled is better, though.
