The Best Horror Movie Franchises
My list for the absolute best horror franchies. I am using the original film to represent the whole series on this list (for instance the original Scream will represent all of the sequels as well). However, remakes are not represented in this list at all. If they are, they will represented by the first remake.

- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsDonald PleasenceJamie Lee CurtisTony MoranFifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again. The godfather of the slasher genre, is the best of them all. While some sequels were lackluster (RESURRECTION), the series is still top notch.
- DirectorWes CravenStarsNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid ArquetteA year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a masked killer who targets her and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game. The most intelligent slasher series ever made. The characters you actually care about, unlike other slashers, and the mystery angle surrounding the identity of the killer help make this series the more original franchise of them all.
- DirectorClive BarkerStarsAndrew RobinsonClare HigginsAshley LaurenceA woman discovers the newly resurrected, partially formed, body of her brother-in-law and lover. She starts killing for him to revitalize his body and escape the demonic beings that are pursuing him after he escaped their underworld.Only recently did I start to really enjoy this series and granted, only about half of the films are worth my time to watch, the concept is so original and intrigueing, it deserves such a high ranking on my list.
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsDuane JonesJudith O'DeaKarl HardmanA ragtag group of Pennsylvanians barricade themselves in an old farmhouse to remain safe from a horde of flesh-eating ghouls that are ravaging the Northeast of the United States.George A. - DirectorWes CravenStarsHeather LangenkampJohnny DeppRobert EnglundTeenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life.Nightmare is a terrific slasher series, that does not use a flesh and blood killer like all the others.
- DirectorTom HollandStarsCatherine HicksChris SarandonAlex VincentA struggling single mother unknowingly gifts her son a doll imbued with a serial killer's consciousness.Quality dipped significantly with Seed of Chucky, the series as a whole is still amazing.
- DirectorJames WongStarsDevon SawaAli LarterKerr SmithAfter getting a premonition about a plane crash on his school trip, Alex, a student saves a few of his classmates. However, their situation gets complicated when death starts chasing them. The Final Destination is a truly awful piece of garbage, but the first three are so good, FD4 is easily ignored.
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsHal HolbrookLeslie NielsenAdrienne Barbeau"Creepshow" is a 1982 movie that tells five grisly tales from a children's comic book: a murdered father rising from his grave, a bizarre meteor, a vengeful husband, a mysterious crate's occupant, and a plague of cockroaches.Creepshow is a true horror classic.
Creeshow 2 is only 1/3 good.
Creepshow 3 is the bastard child of the group.
The franchise as a whole levels out well. - DirectorSean S. CunninghamStarsBetsy PalmerAdrienne KingJeannine TaylorA group of teenage camp counselors attempt to re-open an abandoned summer camp with a tragic past, but they are stalked by a mysterious, relentless killer.
