- DirectorJon StoneStarsLinda BoveFran BrillNorthern CallowayThe ninth season of "Sesame Street" begins with a bang. The bang of drums, that is, because Bert is leading a brass band down the street. Later on, in Hooper's Store, the folks watch a grouch cooking show hosted by Oscar, who demonstrates how to make a 'new kind' of chicken soup. At the end of the day, Grover pretends to drive Gordon's car (with the latter there to supervise, of course). Today's show is brought to you by the letter H and the number 2, the latter paid respects by the Pointer Sisters in one of their typical "Pinball Number" songs. Our favorite frog sings the rather melancholy "Song From Kermit". A woodsman in the countryside sings about how much he loves the great outdoors, totally unaware of the demolition going on behind him. The human cast plays a game of "One of Us is Not Like the Others", to the chagrin of Gladys the Cow. In a couple of animated sequences, a live typewriter demonstrates how the word 'hand' begins with the letter H, and it is demonstrated how to say every letter in sign language. A boy explains to the viewers how his father makes Chinese noodles in his factory. Grover and John-John count one penny, and a short cartoon kid figures out how to get a drink from a water fountain out of his reach.

- DirectorChristophe de PonfillyStarsChristophe de PonfillyAhmad Shah MassoudMerabuddineThe friendship between Christophe de Ponfilly and Commander Massoud, a legendary figure of the Afghan resistance against the Soviet invader, goes back to the filmmaker's first film, "A Valley Against an Empire", made in 1981. Fifteen years later, weakened, isolated, betrayed by many of his own, the "Lion of Panshir" has not surrendered to his new and implacable enemies, the Taliban. While preparing his next offensive, he evokes his commitment and his fights, and bears witness to a history in which he has been one of the main actors for twenty years. At the same time, the director questions the role and power of the media, as well as his own approach as a filmmaker. Commander Massoud was killed in an attack in September 2001.
- DirectorTaran DaviesHorrified by the 9/11 attacks on America, filmmaker Taran Davies and Afghan American, Walied Osman, set out for Afghanistan to observe how the Afghan people have survived 24 years of war. They meet a member of the Afghan royal family once tortured by the Taliban, a refugee family stuck in a one-room apartment, a revered Muslim elder, an aid worker and a warlord. A unique and intimate film, Afghan Stories documents the torment, resolve and dreams of a people whose lives have been torn apart by war.
- DirectorMeena NanjiStarsDaoud HassanShapiray HassanRoeena MohmandCombining verite footage, interviews and rare archival material, VIEW FROM A GRAIN OF SAND is a harrowing, thought-provoking, yet intimate portrait of Afghan women's history over the last 30 years - from the rule of King Zahir Shah in the 1960's to the current Hamid Karzai government. Told through the eyes of three Afghan women - a doctor, a teacher and women's rights activist -this documentary tells the story of how war, international interference and the rise of political Islam has stripped Afghan women of rights and freedom. Together with rarely seen archival footage, their powerful stories provide illuminating context for Afghanistan's current situation and the ongoing battle women face to gain even basic human rights.
- DirectorChristophe de PonfillyStarsSacha BourdoPatrick ChauvelPhilippe CaubèreA Russian guitarist was enlisted in 1984 in the Afghan war. Imprisoned, he will meet an Afghan musician and a French journalist.
- DirectorJoop van WijkStarsDavid Llewellyn ChildWar and violence leave behind the dead, the wounded, the maimed, the victim and the witness. In ECHOES OF WAR, children left behind in Afghanistan, Colombia, Sierra Leone and New York take us into their lives and share their memories, nightmares and dreams. A Colombian boy takes us down the road where his hand disappeared. In New York, two girls tell us about their father, who worked on too high a floor of the World Trade Centre. We meet a girl in Afghanistan who struggles to remember her father of whom even the pictures were burned. In Sierra Leone a family on their way to a well is attacked, leaving a girl behind who has no idea what the rebels were fighting for. A boy in the Colombian jungle dreams of becoming a doctor. A girl in a besieged city is determined to become president of her country and outlaw all weapons. The children reveal these stories by listening to the tale of a little elephant who tries to find the courage to live with the death of his father. While they identify with the plight of the little elephant we discover that they are heroes who take us beyond the politics and rhetoric of statesmen, terrorists and soldiers. By interplaying the children's life stories with the animated tale of the little elephant, ECHOES OF WAR is a sensitive and moving portrayal about the consequences of war.
