- DirectorAndrew JamesStarsBrenda AcostaGuy AdamsMerced ArceiWelcome to America. The U.S. government has mandated the construction of a 2,000-mile long wall along the U.S./Mexico border and many Americans sport bumper stickers on their vehicles with slogans like, "Stop the Invasion." Una Vida Mejor (A Better Life) follows three families, each participating in the American experience, and each searching for their own version of the American dream. Two of the families have crossed the Mexican border illegally, and entered the United States in the midst of this social and political unrest. The film beautifully weaves the lives of these families together, forming a uniquely American tapestry of love, loss, and hardship. As the drama unfolds, the individual humanity behind the stark statistics and political rhetoric of the immigration issue is revealed and we find that the border between "right" and "wrong" is hopelessly blurred.

- DirectorEva NorvindStarsJosé FloresGraciela FloresAlejandro Jodorowsky'Born Without' is a documentary about severely handicapped Mexican actor and musician Jose Flores. "Born without arms and other limbs, Jose supports his large family by playing the harmonica throughout Mexico. In the face of adversity, he shows great courage and spiritual strength. This is a film with multiple layers. It is about sharing, daring and being grateful for what we have. It is also an exploration of social values, some of them controversial. Many of Jose's choices have been strongly criticized by his family and people around him. As a result, this is also a film about self discovery: a way to explore what we judge ... and what we choose to accept and forgive." - Director: Eva Norvind

- DirectorGlenn GersStarsDeidra EdwardsStaci LawrenceRyan C. BensonLydia is an overweight sales clerk in a trendy home furnishings store, nearing 30. Though she is a member of a Fat Acceptance Group (a movement dedicated to fighting prejudice against overweight people), she is still struggling with complex feelings about her body and its place in the world. Darcy, a recovering-anorexic real estate agent in her mid-20s, is struggling with the same issues from a very different perspective. Her attempt to join the Fat Acceptance Group (since she sees herself as fat) is quickly rejected - but it introduces her to Lydia. Lydia is initially wary of Darcy's efforts to become friends, but Darcy's hunger for emotional contact breaks through the wall of apparent differences and they begin an unexpected friendship. At the same time Lydia gets involved in a sexual relationship with Bob, an overweight man who joins her in walking for exercise early mornings at Venice beach. Stirred emotionally by this new romance and by her conflict with the Fat Acceptance Group, Lydia decides to ask her new friend for an unusual favor: she wants anorexia lessons. When Darcy lets Lydia inside her secret inner world, it forces both women to confront buried feelings about their bodies. Sexuality and fashion, anger and femininity, trust and fear, hunger and satisfaction: there are things that women can only talk about honestly with other women. But they never seem to find a way to do it. This is a movie about two women who do.

- DirectorStefan SchwietertStarsErika StuckyNoldi AlderChristian ZehnderWhat does a baby's cry have in common with the echo of a mountain yodler, and what connects the head tone of a Tuvin nomad with the stage show of a vocal artist? The answer is: THE VOICE. Against a background of powerful alpine vistas and modern city landscapes, "heimatklänge" enters the wondrous sonic world of three exceptional Swiss vocal artists. Their universe of sound extends far beyond what we would describe as singing. In their engagement with local and foreign traditions, the powerful mountain landscape becomes a stage as do the landscapes and sonic backdrops of modern life.
- DirectorErik S. WeigelStarsLeo FitzpatrickElisabeth MossChristopher DenhamElliot, 31, a product of the Washington D.C. foster care system, has spent most of his life moving from place to place. When he is contacted by Matthew, a childhood friend from "the system" dying of cancer, Elliot goes to be by his side. At the funeral, he meets Gray and Lily, two friends of Matthew, both aimless in their present lives. Motivated by their sense of loss, and personal anger, Gray, Lily and Elliot steal Matthew's ashes and take them to Mexico. As the three travelers journey cross-country with Matthew's urn in tow, they are forced to confront their own sense of family, identity and future. Set against the changing American landscape, EL CAMINO follows these characters as they search for themselves in a country that has lost it's own identity. Gray, the wayward son of a prominent D.C. family, has left his pregnant girlfriend. He is angry, volatile and fearful of commitment. Lily is Matthew's ex-girlfriend. Unbeknownst to her parents, she has dropped out of college and become an exotic dancer. Lost in alcohol and pills she longs for her mother's approval. Elliot is outside the cultural mainstream. He carries a suitcase filled with documents and mementos of his life. An explorer of human experience, he interviews and videotapes people he meets. Haunted by dreams of his mother's drowning, Elliot struggles to find his place in the world. EL CAMINO is a humorous and compassionate film about friendship, family, and search for self in today's American landscape.
