If you are looking for a good movie, these are ones I have seen, and rated. The list is sorted by rating. I used to write a review for every review, but due to time constraints, I now only do it for anything rated 7 and above (why I liked it), or 3 or below (Why I hated it).

- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordSean ConneryAlison DoodyIn 1938, after his father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining its powers. This third installment to the Jones ledgend pits Harrison Ford and Shaun Connery against Nazi Germany in search of the Holy Grail. Indy, a hesitant supporter of Jehovah again battles evil, with archeology, and a good dose of Saturday Matinee action. 9 (They keep doing this "screaming skeleton" thing that is irritating, and detracts from the movie).
DATE: 2000-11-09 - DirectorMichael RitchieStarsChevy ChaseHal HolbrookJulianne PhillipsAfter receiving an inheritance in Louisiana, Los Angeles reporter Irwin Fletcher heads to the Belle Isle plantation where he gets himself into hilarious trouble.Fun fletch sequel sports one of the most memorable laughs I have had at a movie. Zippity-do-dah, nuff said. Some adult content. Fun for ages 14 and over.
- DirectorJohn LandisStarsSteve MartinChevy ChaseMartin ShortThree actors accept an invitation to a Mexican village to perform their onscreen bandit fighter roles, unaware that it is the real thing.Funny. Good one-liners, and gags. ages 12 and up.
- DirectorRussell MulcahyStarsChristopher LambertSean ConneryClancy BrownAn immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his immortal opponents, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize".This is a wonderful movie considering the budget and when it was made. It is a crying shame that the people following up in writing sequels, did not take the time necessary to get the mythos straight, before launching into the next endeavor. # 2 stinks, #3 is good, but departs from the plot line in making Connor sterile again. 9
DATE: 2000-11-09 - DirectorJohn LandisStarsChevy ChaseDan AykroydMark StewartTwo bumbling government employees think they are U.S. spies, only to discover that they are actually decoys for Nuclear War.Chase and Akroyd, keep us chuckling in this spy spoof. The chuckles flow through-out, although you will find yourself rolling your eyes at scenes like the "end of the world in 20 minutes, lets pair up and make the most of it routine" Chase rules the humor here in scenes like the government service test (That alone is worth a rental). Ages 14+ for language, indecency, and much, much sexual inuendo.
- DirectorMichael RitchieStarsChevy ChaseJoe Don BakerDana Wheeler-NicholsonWhile working undercover wisecracking newspaper reporter Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher is offered a large sum by a millionaire with a terminal disease to kill him. Intrigued, Fletch decides to unearth the full story behind the offer.Classic Chevy Chase. This movie provides a vehicle for Chevy to try on personalities, and get out of tight situations by the funniest means possible.
- DirectorPeter MedakStarsGeorge HamiltonLauren HuttonBrenda VaccaroZorro, the legendary swordsman, has passed on his weapon and his sense of duty to his noble son, Diego, a dashing swashbuckler like his father. But after an injury sidelines Diego, he is forced to hand the mask over to his twin, Ramon.Humorous spoof on the Zorro saga. George Hamilton plays a dual role of the original Zorro's two sons de la vega and "Bunny Wigglesworth". This is too funny, but in a campy sort of way. Ages 10 and up, for randy references, and mild language.
- DirectorTerry GilliamStarsSean ConneryShelley DuvallJohn CleeseA young boy accidentally joins a band of time travelling dwarves, as they jump from era to era looking for treasure to steal.Well, I guess you can't go back. I loved this movie when I was a kid (11). In retrospect, it stank, a wide open plot, it has no redeeming factors in the genres of fantasy, sci fi, adventure, comedy, or historical epic. In the end Cleese, and Connery provide the highpoints in this misspent flick. Rather than finding the "religious vignettes" cute, or insightful. This run through, I just found them uninformed, and blasphemous. This one is to be avoided, even for free.
- DirectorHarold RamisStarsChevy ChaseRodney DangerfieldBill MurrayAn exclusive golf course has to deal with a flatulent new member and a destructive dancing gopher.Funny and farsical comedy tying the golf and SNL genres together. Rodney Dangerfield is in rare form displaying a grasp of one-liners and high-tech goodies that would make James Bond jealous! (has more than its fair share of filth in it.)
DATE: 2000-11-09 - DirectorRichard LesterStarsSean ConneryAudrey HepburnRobert ShawRobin Hood, aging none too gracefully, returns exhausted from the Crusades to woo and win Maid Marian one last time.In spite of an awsome cast (connery and hepburn) The movie falls flat on all levels. The story is a depressing tale that follows Robin and Marian 20 years after Robin fought the sheriff and went off with Richard to fight in the crusades. The movie is 2 hours of reminiscing, and watching old men, battle much younger though inept soldiers, culminating in a murder/suicide of Robin and Marion by poisoning. It is a waste of money on any level, and I recommend its avoidance at all costs. Ages 15 and up.
- DirectorJohn MiliusStarsSean ConneryCandice BergenBrian KeithA Berber chieftain triggers an international incident, drawing the involvement of Theodore Roosevelt, when he kidnaps an American widow and her children in 1900s Morocco. An outstanding rollicking tale of Theodore Roosevelts handling of the kidnapping of an American woman in Morocco. Certainly captures the spirit of TR. Plenty of action, and a modicum of violence not for small children, but suitable for teens.
- DirectorJohn HustonStarsSean ConneryMichael CaineChristopher PlummerIn 1880s India, two former British soldiers decide to set themselves up as Kings in Kafiristan, a land where no white man has set foot since Alexander the Great.John Huston's classic retelling of Rudyard Kiplings tale. Connery and Cain play off each other very well. While the the ending is sad, the movie as a whole is still worth it. Coming from me that is something, because I feel that philosophically, the movie watching experience is about entertainment, not a message. For that reason, I am a stickler about having the good guys win, and have happy endings. That really doesn't happen here, but I still liked the movie. I probably would not watch it more than once every 10 years or so.
- DirectorDelbert MannStarsCary GrantDoris DayGig YoungA rich businessman and a young woman are attracted to each other, but he only wants an affair while she wants to save herself for marriage.Basically the same plot as "Every girl should be married" it was not carried off as well due to Grant's seeming disinterest, and Day's insincere performance. While most people found EGSBM to be "creepy", I still found it to be the funnier movie.
DATE: 2000-12-20 - DirectorStanley DonenStarsCary GrantDeborah KerrRobert MitchumVictor and Hilary have guided tours in their English mansion. A US oil tycoon "bumps" into Hilary during a tour and charms his way into her heart. Meanwhile, Hattie pursues Victor. An awful tale of a man who once cheated on his wife, and the wife who is now cheating on her husband. It is concocted in a fun and humourous manner (it does after all have Cary Grant in it) however the subject matter overshadows all drawing it down. Ages 15 and up.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsCary GrantEva Marie SaintJames MasonA New York City advertising executive goes on the run after being mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies, and falls for a woman whose loyalties he begins to doubt. This lives on as one of my all time favorites. This is a good example of how the "realism" trend in hollywood has shifted from realism in plot to realism in special-effects. If they ever manage to put both in the same movie, the universe will probably implode... anyway, Grant becomes enmeshed in this spy thriller by a simple, and quite believable case of mistaken identity. - 8
DATE: 2000-12-20 - DirectorRobert StevensonStarsAlbert SharpeJanet MunroSean ConneryA wily old codger matches wits with the King of the Leprechauns and helps play matchmaker for his daughter and the strapping lad who has replaced him as caretaker.Family Fun as the venerable Darby matches wits constantly with the Leprechaun king, while knitting together a relationship between his daughter and his job replacement (Sean Connery).
- DirectorMelville ShavelsonStarsCary GrantSophia LorenMartha HyerA widower, his three young children, and an Italian nanny get to know each other better when circumstances have them living together aboard a badly neglected houseboat.Disappointing dysfunctional family movie. Grant's soon-to-be divorced wife, dies leaving him three (brats) to be reared. Grant toys with a should have been romance with his ex-wifes sister, but ends up marrying Sophia Loren, a nanny wanna-be who has more attitude problems than most neophyte women. All-in-all a bust. 3
- DirectorSidney SheldonStarsCary GrantDeborah KerrWalter PidgeonA business tycoon decides to wed a Middle Eastern princess whose customs dictate the pair must live apart for several months before marrying. Even more complications settle in when the tycoon's ex-fiancée is assigned to chaperone the pair.Grants fiance has no time for him, since as a liberated woman her job comes first. So he begins courting Tarji, a middle-eastern princess who has been trained from birth how to please a man. Grants ex-fiance gets thrown in the mix (as a state-department representative who speakes the language) to make sure that U.S. oil interests are preserved. In the process, she corrupts Tarji with American feminist notions, and comes to realize herself that her man is more important than her job. Ages 8 and up
- DirectorHoward HawksStarsCary GrantGinger RogersMarilyn MonroeA chemist finds his personal and professional life turned upside down when one of his chimpanzees finds the fountain of youth.Grant is a chemist trying to discover a formula to reverse aging. When one of the lab chimps gets loose, mixes the exact formula and dumps it in the water, Grant and company start acting strangely. Ages 8 and up
- DirectorJoseph L. MankiewiczStarsCary GrantJeanne CrainFinlay CurrieDr. Noah Praetorius falls in love with Deborah, a student who discovers that she is pregnant by her old boyfriend.Cary Grant in a quirky, yet serious comedy? The subject matter is a tad racy given the love interest wantting to commit suicide due to being pregnant. Ages 8+
- DirectorH.C. PotterStarsCary GrantMyrna LoyMelvyn DouglasA man and his wife decide they can afford to have a house in the country built to their specifications. It's a lot more trouble than they think.Although lacking the sight gags of the money pit, this is the cleaner movie. Grant's presence carry's the movie.
- DirectorHenry KosterStarsCary GrantLoretta YoungDavid NivenA debonair angel comes to Earth to help an Episcopalian bishop and his wife in their quest to raise money for the new church. The better, funner, and cleaner precursor to the Whitney Houston, Denzel Washington remake. Grant plays an angel sent to provide guidance to the bishop, and comes to fall in love with the Bishop's Life. Not theologically sound, but a fun movie to watch.
- DirectorIrving ReisStarsCary GrantMyrna LoyShirley TempleA high school girl falls for a playboy artist, with screwball results.Did not meet my expectations, A family entrenched in the legal system gets mixed up with grant who plays an artist and a little wackiness ensues. A female judge is conned by her uncle (who wants her to find a man) to force grant to court her 17 year old sister who has a crush on grant. Got it? Grant does his best to get out of the deal, by setting the sister up with her old boyfriend and in the process falls in love with the judge, per the uncles plan. Suitable for ages 8 and up.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsCary GrantIngrid BergmanClaude RainsThe daughter of a convicted German spy is asked by American agents to gather information on a ring of German scientists in South America. How far will she have to go to ingratiate herself with them? There is very little difference between this Hitchcock original, and the Lifetime made for tv version. Plenty of intrigue, excellent acting by Grant and Bergman. Flows well, and is relatively clean. 8
- DirectorFrank CapraStarsCary GrantPriscilla LaneRaymond MasseyA Brooklyn writer of books on the futility of marriage risks his reputation after he decides to tie the knot. Things get even more complicated when he learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are habitual murderers.Dark Morbid Comedy? I seem to forget just how much thriller elements are in it - 4
DATE: 2000-10-03 - DirectorGeorge StevensStarsCary GrantJoan FontaineVictor McLaglenIn 19th century India, three British soldiers and a native waterbearer must stop a secret mass revival of the murderous Thuggee cult before it can rampage across the land. Was not what I expected, but in a good way. I expected a little adventure and excitement, but found it to be action packed. I expected much more comedy, but found it to be more blurbs than a single comedic thread. I did find the plot reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Which I saw first). Not Grants best acting though not his worst either.
- DirectorRob LaDucaRobert C. RamirezStarsBen AffleckMark HamillRichard HerdA prophet who has the ability to interpret dreams is sold into slavery in Egypt, where people learn of his gifts. This was a disappointing second installment to Dreamworks religious pictures. It was obvious that the casting, music score, research, and technical fronts were all overlooked by comparison to P.O.E. I believe it also went straight to video, which begs the question, Why? P.O.E. was very well received and in my opinion, put Dreamworks on the map. Perhaps they will make a better effort on future works...
- DirectorTaylor HackfordStarsMeg RyanRussell CroweDavid MorseAlice hires a professional negotiator to obtain the release of her engineer husband, who has been kidnapped by anti-government guerrillas in South America. The acting was pathetic, without a doubt the worst I have seen from Meg Ryan. The action was pretty good, but it was mostly at the very end of the movie. This was more of a drama than an action movie. Foul Lingo also hurt it. Ages 16 and up.
- DirectorDonald PetrieStarsSandra BullockMichael CaineBenjamin BrattAn F.B.I. Agent must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event.Touchy-feely movie with elements of comedy and action. I would not go as far as to say it is an action movie, or a comedy. It is more of a chick-flick, but guys will not be too left behind. Basic story is a Tom-boy FBI agent goes under cover as a contestant at a Beauty pagent, and is transformed into a dainty feminist that beats people up. The politics are moderately veiled, so it obviously did not star Susan Sarandon, or Jessica Lange. The result was a message movie where you could tolerate the message because it was entertaining (see above comment on Lange and Sarandon...and Julia Roberts (but I digress)).
- DirectorJay RoachStarsBen StillerRobert De NiroTeri PoloMale nurse Greg Focker meets his girlfriend's parents before proposing, but her suspicious father is every date's worst nightmare.Humorous, classical Ben Stiller sight-gags, strung together around the humorous situation of a groom-to-be coming home to meet his future in laws. Also has Stiller trademark language, and thinly veiled adult content. 7
DATE: 2001-01-03 - DirectorTarsem SinghStarsJennifer LopezVince VaughnVincent D'OnofrioAn F.B.I. Agent persuades a social worker, who is adept with a new experimental technology, to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer in order to learn where he has hidden his latest kidnap victim.Interesting, but flat special effects. As is typical of Hollywood of late they leave too little to the imagination. I would have cut out most of the scenes showing the killers childhood, and mind (by cut, I mean just the seconds here and there where there is graphic language, nudity, or violence). I would add in references by other actors that indicated the types of things that went on and left it at that. I would have filled the rest of the time developing the plot, characters, etc. Good basic plot, bad execution. The scene with J. Lo smoking dope was totally unnecessary, and that 30 seconds of film should have been cut. This film is not appropriate for anyone under 18, probably even 25.
- DirectorNancy MeyersStarsMel GibsonHelen HuntMarisa TomeiA cocky, chauvinistic advertising executive magically acquires the ability to hear what women are thinking.Funny, and filthy. Gibson reaches. Hunt actually comes off as a nice human being, well for the most part. Hollywoody, but still fairly engaging. Ages 17+
- DirectorDon RoosStarsBen AffleckGwyneth PaltrowNatasha HenstridgeA man switches plane tickets with another man who dies in that plane in a crash. The man falls in love with the deceased one's wife. What is it with Hollywood's inability to make a good movie. It really is a rare thing. This depressing tale, paints a two-dimensional father, then kills him in a plane wreck when he unwittingly accepts the gift of a ticket from an earlier flight from Afleck who is trying to engage in amorallity. Afleck, feels guilty, not about the sex, but about the chance death, and proceeds to stalk the wife and play clark to her lois. They end up in love and then the truth comes out. All the characters end up being 2D except Paltrow who ends up being 2.5D (Believe me that was the script, not the acting). Foul language, and all, not recommened for under age 18.
- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsClint EastwoodTommy Lee JonesDonald SutherlandWhen retired engineer Frank Corvin is called upon to rescue a failing satellite, he insists that his equally old teammates accompany him into space.Very funny in parts, very serious in parts. I did not like the ending, but I enjoyed the chemistry between Sutherland, Eastwood, Garner, and Jones.
- DirectorGregory HoblitStarsDennis QuaidJim CaviezelShawn DoyleAn accidental cross-time radio link connects father and son across 30 years. The son tries to save his father's life, but then must fix the consequences.I loved this movie, even though it was a thriller. Lots of action, thought-provoking science, and even some emotional triggers. A son who grows up without his father(who dies), is able to talk to his father across time, thereby saving his father, and later mothers lives. - 8
DATE: 2000-12-20 - DirectorBobby FarrellyPeter FarrellyStarsJim CarreyRenée ZellwegerAnthony AndersonA nice-guy cop with Dissociative Identity Disorder must protect a woman on the run from a corrupt ex-boyfriend and his associates.Disappointing seeing Carey at what may well be the low point of his career. He plays a split personality (Charlie-nice guy, and Hank-horses end) who's three children single-handedly bring the movie to its low point, and earn it the R rating. Carey then takes up where they leave off with uncalled for below the belt sexual inuendo. The high point is seeing Careys sight gags, as he carrys himself to the car after he faints (you'll understand when you see it). Way too much language for me though... 3
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsRussell CroweJoaquin PhoenixConnie NielsenA former Roman General sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.A nice but futile attempt by hollywood. The plot is not historically accurate, and is not very realistic. As usual hollywood manages to botch "the moral touch" Crowe's character does have some integrity, which does play well in contrast to the debauchery of later Rome. Has some entertaining fight scenes, but in all the beginning and the end of the movie are the best parts.
- DirectorMcGStarsCameron DiazDrew BarrymoreLucy LiuThree women, detectives with a mysterious boss, retrieve stolen voice-ID software, using martial arts, tech skills, and sex appeal.I had low expectations, but it went far beyond what I expected. Matrix style bullet time wire work kung fu fights. The angels display a technical, and acrobatic prowess that would make Nick from Real Men blush. This movie is campy, but it really is doing it on purpose. Lots of lewdness, and inuendo, on par with the typical decadence Hollywood purports. Ages 16 +.
- DirectorChristian DuguayStarsWesley SnipesDonald SutherlandMaury ChaykinUN's secretary general uses covert operations to help diplomacy along. Shaw's called back 6 months after one such operation. He witnesses the murder of Chinese UN ambassador at UN, NYC, chases the assassin and ends up a suspect.Wesley Snipes sizzles in this political techno-thriller. Combining, well choreographed martial-arts, edge-of-the-seat action sequences (that are slightly unbelievable at times), and political intrigue as strong as turkish coffee. I do have two small complaints: The hoakiness of some of the action, and the sheer predictability of the ending. Honestly though, to change it might have ruined the movie. Ages 17 and up.
- DirectorDouglas AarniokoskiStarsChristopher LambertAdrian PaulBruce PayneImmortals Connor and Duncan MacLeod must join forces against Kell, an evil immortal who has become too strong for anyone to face alone. The best action of any of the Highlander movies so far. It did well to blend the series with the movie, storylines, but unfortunately, completely departs from the movies storylines. Connor is in the second higlander movie (The Quickening), and it takes place a minimum of 20-30 years after the general timing of Endgame, yet Endgame kills off Connor.
- DirectorJon AmielStarsSean ConneryCatherine Zeta-JonesVing RhamesAn insurance agent is sent by her employer to track down and help capture an art thief.A fine cat-burglar, techno-thriller. Connery as usual provides a presence that the viewer wants to be around. Zeta-Jones provides just enough acting ability to not ruin the movie, and provides a couple of provacative scenes involving string, and lasers. 'nuff said just go rent it. The ending is suspenseful, but a little disappointing when they "get away with it, because they were allowed to."
DATE: 2000-11-09 - DirectorEdward ZwickStarsDenzel WashingtonBruce WillisAnnette BeningThe secret U.S. abduction of a suspected terrorist leads to a wave of terrorist attacks in New York City, which leads to the declaration of martial-law.A well made flick start to finish. It does not try to accomplish more with the plot than is viable. The ending sews up nicely with the good guys winning. It has good action, and a good plot. It is a clean movie in that violence for the most part is implied rather than shown. I would not have any problem letting teens watch it.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanIan McKellenIn a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.A well done retelling of the comic series. There is about ten minutes of footage that should have been included in the final draft. Some versions of the VHS have this 7 (Some questionable content, plot flaws, and gaps)
DATE: 2000-12-04 - DirectorPeter LordNick ParkStarsMel GibsonJulia SawalhaPhil DanielsWhen a cockerel apparently flies into a chicken farm, the chickens see him as an opportunity to escape their evil owners.Animated, Animal-farmesque tribute to Stalag 17, and other POW movies. Very clean humor, yet still entertaining for older audiences... 6
DATE: 2001-01-03 - DirectorGary SinyorStarsChris O'DonnellRenée ZellwegerArtie LangeA commitment-phobic man goes in search of a bride, including his fed-up girlfriend, to inherit his grandfather's one hundred million dollar inheritance.A good date movie. Guys will appreciate the humor of a guy trying to avoid marraige, Girls will appreciate the romantic threads in the movie. Zellweger's best. Ages 15 and up.
- DirectorTom ShadyacStarsJim CarreyMaura TierneyAmanda DonohoeA pathological liar-lawyer finds his career turned upside down when he inexplicably cannot physically lie for 24 whole hours. This Lawyer gets his comeupance in the form of his sons birthday wish that the lawyer could not lie for one day. Wackiness ensues. 9 (Pant-load funny, but not a great family flick)
DATE: 2000-11-09 - DirectorTibor TakácsStarsMark DacascosCarrie-Anne MossTony ToddFormer special services agent plays an intricate game of chess involving several federal agencies. Queen takes pawn.Good Action, Plot, and mostly good acting. A great movie some violence, and language. Ages 15 +
- DirectorMichael BayStarsSean ConneryNicolas CageEd HarrisA mild-mannered chemist and an ex-con must lead the counterstrike when a rogue group of military men, led by a renegade general, threaten a nerve gas attack from Alcatraz against San Francisco.Good plot, action, character development, excellent acting. ages 15 and up.
- DirectorJerry ZuckerStarsSean ConneryRichard GereJulia OrmondLancelot falls in love with Guinevere, who is due to be married to King Arthur. Meanwhile, a violent warlord tries to seize power from Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.Connery saves this "Hollywood" corruption of the ancient Camelot ledgend from complete ruin. Gere provides the suitable lack of personal character, that makes a lancelot character believable in non-action sequences. The film has some decent action, but in all is not a fine picture. 6
DATE: 2000-11-09 - DirectorChuck RussellStarsJim CarreyCameron DiazPeter RiegertBank clerk Stanley Ipkiss is transformed into a manic superhero when he wears a mysterious mask.Funny, but filthy. ages 15 and up.
- DirectorPeter FarrellyBobby FarrellyStarsJim CarreyJeff DanielsLauren HollyAfter a woman leaves a briefcase at the airport terminal, a dumb limo driver and his dumber friend set out on a hilarious cross-country road trip to Aspen to return it.All that needs to be said about this movie is it has Jim Carey in it. Wall to wall sight gags. I and many other viewers were a little disappointed in the ending. While, the ending is realistic (sort of), it is at the same time depressing. 8 (The ending really hurt)
DATE: 2000-11-09 - DirectorTom ShadyacStarsJim CarreyCourteney CoxSean YoungA goofy detective specializing in animals goes in search of the missing mascot of the Miami Dolphins. One of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Carey's brand of sight gags make him one of the best. There are elements of filth, that someone new to his work would overlook at first. However, in looking at his later works there seems to be a trend toward more morally decrepid movies. Ages 14 and up.
- DirectorAlbert MagnoliStarsJeff SpeakmanChristopher NeameLewis Van BergenA former cop returns to challenge a plot to escalate gang violence in the streets of Los Angeles. The acting classes did not help. Speakman's performance is worse than in the Perfect Weapon. The action and writing went downhill. In this bloodfest Speakman and his new girlfriend are the only major players who aren't killed. Ages 17+
- DirectorPhilip KaufmanStarsSean ConneryWesley SnipesHarvey KeitelWhen an escort girl is found dead in the offices of a Japanese company in Los Angeles, detectives Web Smith and John Connor act as liaison between the company's executives and the investigating cop Tom Graham.Based on Michael Crichton's novel. Sampai, and Kohai, Connery and Snipes investigate a murder set against the backdrop of two Japanese companies attempting to merge (and take over) an american defense contractor. They then proceed to play that most American of games- catch up. Ages 17 and up. An edited for TV version might be suitable for 12 and up due to graphic sexual content.
- DirectorAndrew DavisStarsSteven SeagalPam GrierHenry SilvaA former Special Operations Vietnam vet works as a Chicago cop, and uncovers C.I.A. wrongdoing.Seagal delivers a good first try. Very low budget this semi-biographical piece, provides a perfect vehicle to usher in a new era of martial arts movies, less flash more speed. Seagal has some issues with language, that seem to get worse with each movie (You will note he gets lower and lower ratings from me for it). As much as I hate political diatribes, in this movie it is so low key, yet integral to the plot, that you can't help but not mind. Ages 17 and up.
- DirectorJohn GrayStarsSteven SeagalKeenen Ivory WayansBob GuntonTwo cops are forced to work together to solve a chain of mysterious killings by a killer nicknamed "The Family Man".The one good part of this movie, is Segal with the credit card razor fight scene. The rest of the movie is weak and one dimensional. Even Wayans can't save this one. Segal dressed like Bill Mahr(gouge your mental eye) is some hippy, hary krishna, freakshow, that tries to be tougher than he really is. Utterly pathetic. The plot premise would have been great had they done something with it. ages 17 and up.
- DirectorGeoff MurphyStarsSteven SeagalEric BogosianEverett McGillCasey Ryback hops on a Colorado to LA train to start a vacation with his niece. Early into the trip, terrorists board the train and use it as a mobile HQ to hijack a top secret destructive US satellite.good plot action, martial arts. Too filthy. ages 17 and up.
- DirectorAndrew DavisStarsSteven SeagalGary BuseyTommy Lee JonesAn ex-Navy Seal turned cook is the only person who can stop a group of terrorists when they seize control of a U.S. battleship.Good plot, flows well. good action and martial arts.
- DirectorJohn FlynnStarsSteven SeagalWilliam ForsytheJerry OrbachWith his partner executed in broad daylight by a psychotic mafia enforcer, a veteran Brooklyn officer vows revenge. But is the unstoppable detective prepared to face the truth and pay the price of blood? No redeaming qualities. too dark and filthy to watch. ages 21 and up.
- DirectorDwight H. - StarsTom BerengerSam ElliottGary BuseyUndersecretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt resigns to form a volunteer militia unit called "The Rough Riders" to fight in the Spanish-American War.TNT's forray into progressive history. Does a fair job of capturing TR's spirit. Definitely has Liberal political undertones. The American flag waving in front of a sign for a sugar company says it all. All in All it was not an abysmal attempt, but should have been cut down to 2 hours. There was alot of fluff in it that did not pertain to the story line.
- DirectorTodd HollandStarsRichard DreyfussJenna ElfmanNatasha LyonneAn anthropologist creates a fictitious lost New Guinea tribe using his family members to cover-up for his misuse of grant monies.I found this movie to be ratable on many scales on humor-8, on plot-6, on filth(well it is important to me atleast)-3, on acting-6
Not intended for kids though. - DirectorHoward HawksStarsCary GrantRosalind RussellRalph BellamyA newspaper editor uses every trick in the book to keep his ace reporter ex-wife from remarrying. Not rib bustingly funny, this farcical comedy does inspire some chuckles. The movie also pokes some tongue in cheek satire (although 100% accurate) at the manipulative state of the liberal democratic agenda'ed press, and the mexican jumping bean'ed waffling of politicians. Relatively clean cut movie..
- DirectorAng LeeStarsChow Yun-FatMichelle YeohZiyi ZhangA young Chinese warrior steals a sword from a famed swordsman and then escapes into a world of romantic adventure with a mysterious man in the frontier of the nation. This movie had an incredible quanity and quality of action, and a wonderful plot that just suddenly fell over flat during the last 10 minutes of the movie. The sex scenes are not graphic, but are too suggestive for younger audiences, The martial arts for the most part is not graphic, and I don't explicitly remember foul language. Ages 12 and up.
- DirectorPeter AskinDouglas McGrathStarsDouglas McGrathSigourney WeaverPaul GuilfoyleA high-school teacher in the 1960s becomes an international spy and becomes involved in a plot to overthrow Fidel Castro.Wacky zany comedy, lame and falls flat frequently. Some language, drug use, and all the other hollywood crap, that ruins movies these days. Leary's confession alone is worth a cheap rental. Ages 16 and up.
- DirectorHarold RamisStarsBrendan FraserElizabeth HurleyFrances O'ConnorHopeless dweeb Elliot Richards is granted seven wishes by the Devil to snare Allison, the girl of his dreams, in exchange for his soul.Tells again the age old tale of the poor sap who sells his soul to the devil for a "better life", and not only does not experience the life he wishes, but is about to loose his soul. In true hollywood fashion all the concepts are corrupted, God's messenger is a chain-smoker, while the devil ends up as the victims "best-friend" after he thwarts her. The movie is repleat with sexual inuendo and imagery throughout. This is not a movie four younger audiences. Ages 14 and up.
- DirectorJean-Jacques AnnaudStarsJude LawEd HarrisJoseph FiennesA Russian and a German sniper play a game of cat-and-mouse during the Battle of Stalingrad.Similar in many ways to Saving Private Ryan. I liked it better due to the ending, but it is still very dark. Accurately shows how the commies in russia do business... Ages 18 and up.
- DirectorDavid MirkinStarsSigourney WeaverJennifer Love HewittGene HackmanA mother and daughter con team seduce and scam wealthy men.Funny, some language, and a very predictable plot, but all in all a good ride. Ages 16+
- DirectorLee TamahoriStarsMorgan FreemanMichael WincottMonica PotterWhen a senator's daughter under Secret Service protection is kidnapped from a private school, detective Alex Cross investigates the case even though he's recovering from the loss of his partner.I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I thought it would be some slasher thriller serial killer type movie. In reality, it was well thought out and actually appealed more to the intellectual viewer. It is a little suspenseful at times, but the suspense is no surprise for the most part. Ages 17+
- DirectorDennie GordonStarsDavid SpadeBrittany DanielDennis MillerAfter being abandoned by his parents at the Grand Canyon, Joe Dirt tells the story of his journey to find his parents.Daaaaang, this movie rocked. This was very funny, but not intended for kids. At least it doesn't pretend to be... This shows a new dimension to Spades comedy, displaying a lovable dufus rather than an ascerbic wit. Ages 17+
- DirectorJohn BoormanStarsPierce BrosnanGeoffrey RushJamie Lee CurtisA tailor living in Panama reluctantly becomes a spy for a British Agent. This movie exceeded my low expectations of it. It had little action to speak of, and a fairly two dimensional plot. However, the acting, and interplay between the talent was worth the ride. The ending was far happier than the trailer suggests. Ages 18+
- DirectorSimon WincerStarsPaul HoganLinda KozlowskiJere BurnsAustralian Outback adventurer Mick "Crocodile" Dundee travels to Los Angeles with his young son while his longtime companion suspects foul play at a movie studio.Another croc dundee installment. Pretty wholesome fun for the most part. There are just a few adult themes that make it not kids stuff. Ages 10 and up.
- DirectorStephen SommersStarsBrendan FraserRachel WeiszJohn HannahAt an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hamunaptra, an American serving in the French Foreign Legion accidentally awakens a mummy who begins to wreak havoc as he searches for the reincarnation of his long-lost love.A bit of a dissapointment, billed as a horror movie, the first half of the movie has more of an Indiana Jones feel to it. The end of the movie does finally lapse into the horror genre. I had previously seen the first half of the movie, so I was looking forward to an I.J. type of movie. Not for kids, and not for some adults (including myself).
- DirectorDaniel Petrie Jr.StarsPauly ShoreLori PettyAndy DickTwo misguided youths join the reserves to make some money for their entrepreneurial dreams. - DirectorGordon DouglasStarsLouis HaywardJanet BlairGeorge MacreadyYoung nobleman Richard Shelton returns from the War of the Roses to find his father murdered, a fugitive family friend blamed, and his uncle occupying his estates. This clean-cut collection-worthy classic retells Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale, with plenty of swashbuckling action, a touch of romance, and some early Hollywood feminism (you had to expect some form of political tomfoolery being from the left coast, but at least it is not of stench like proportions)
- DirectorVic SarinStarsKirk CameronBrad JohnsonJanaya StephensThe Biblical prophecy of Armegeddon begins when the Rapture instantly takes all believers in Christ from the Earth. - DirectorSimon WestStarsAngelina JolieJon VoightIain GlenVideo game adventurer Lara Croft comes to life in a movie where she races against time and villains to recover powerful ancient artifacts. This was a big disappointment. The action and plot were laughable, and lacked all the things a fan likes about Lara Croft. She was not a female indiana jones like the game appears. Her physical endowments, were vastly understated from what the game shows. Finally, ms. Jolie's obvious preoccupation with the occult, and all things dark was seen in spades through the whole painful ordeal. Ages 17+
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenOrlando BloomA meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.Phenomenal adaptation of Tolkiens book. - DirectorLuke GreenfieldStarsRob SchneiderColleen HaskellJohn C. McGinleyAfter receiving organ transplants from various animal donors, a man finds himself taking on the traits of those animals.Humourous, but over the top in filth, this comedy from they minds of Adam Sandler, and Rob Schneider introduces a blend of "Six Million Dollar Man" meets, "Robo Cop" meets "Deuce Bigelow". The mix ends up being roughly 50% laughs, 10% slow times, and 40% crude humor that falls flat. Be prepared for beastiality, amorality, and liberalism full tilt boogie in the face. Ages 17 +
- DirectorRenny HarlinStarsSylvester StalloneKip PardueTil SchweigerA young hot shot driver is in the middle of a championship season and is coming apart at the seams. A former CART champion is called in to give him guidance.I cant resist reviewing this in the same style of the movie (note sentance structure): Flashy, Sexy, Pop, Shiny, Fast, Non-substantive. Okay with all that said, it was a pretty clean movie, and I think it could have earned a PG without much trouble. My guess is the producer wanted to pull in some more scratch by campaigning for an adult rating, there is some language, and sexual inuendo, but it is easy enough to see coming for the most part, and can be bleeped or fast forwarded. Ages 15+ if unsupervised, or 4+ if an adult does the editing.
- DirectorOliver StoneStarsHiep Thi LeTommy Lee JonesHaing S. NgorDuring the Vietnam War, a Vietnamese woman struggles hustling on the streets, where she comes face to face with those involved in the conflict around her. This movie was disappointing on more levels than I could count. I have however come to expect this from Oliver Stone. The movie does a poor job of portraying Christians (again Stone is to blame). The movie is not an action movie at all (apart from some explosions in the distance, and a tank or two driving by nothing happens). The movie fits more into the drama/tear jerker romance genre. Although I did not expect an action movie, it was not the romance that I thought it would be. I found the plot to be one depressing circumstance after another. The only redeeming value there was to the movie was in the portrayal (however weak it was) of the NVA for what they were... Attack-dog Terrorists, murderers, thugs, liars, and greedy (Oh, but they were for the PEOPLE, yeah right). What little the viewer can take away from this movie is an unflinching picture of the horrors of Communism, its effects on the people (shown unchecked on the current (2001) persecution of Christians), and how badly the people are lied to, and forced to assist in the cover-up of its evils (several people after narrowly escaping attrocities are threatened with death if they ever tell anyone what happened). In all avoid this one like the plague... nuff said.
- DirectorMark PellingtonStarsJeff BridgesTim RobbinsJoan CusackA man begins to suspect his neighbors are not what they appear to be and their secrets could be deadly. This was a suck movie. It was on my low-expectations list, and met my expectations. Bridges acting, was abominal as usual. Robbins did a good job of acting. The surprise ending (I was taken in too), broke a lot of my "rules for good entertainment". the result, I was not entertained. It was interesting to note that even when bridges is equitable in his politics, he still manages to come off like an emasculated liberal. Oh well, I won't watch it again. At least it did not cost me anything to watch...
- DirectorBrian HelgelandStarsMel GibsonGregg HenryMaria BelloAfter a successful heist, Porter is left for dead. Once he recovers, he seeks vengeance and wants his share of the money. This was not a great film, but I liked it because it was on my "Low-expectations" list of movies to watch (you know the ones you wouldn't pay a dime to watch, but if someone loans it to you, you will waste a couple of hours...) Anyway, I found my self liking it because the characters were strongly developed, I might watch it again, but probably would not pay to do so.

WD-40 believed Rancor was dead and he teams up with the hot KGB Agent Veronique Ukrinsky to find Rancor and save the world.I love this genre, but this was baswically a bunch of re-hashed and packaged jokes from Airplane, and police squad. Ages 14 +
- DirectorRichard FleischerStarsRex HarrisonSamantha EggarAnthony NewleyAfter the animal communicating veterinarian goes too far for his clientele, he and his friends escape their hometown to the sea in search of the Great Pink Sea Snail. This comes as no surprise as I detest musicals, but it reeked from a musical standpoint. The characters took every opportunity(and a whole lot inappropriate moments) to launch into song. The result was a poorly constructed menagerie of "songs" that were little more than singing the script. This vomitous mess was used to adhere a undeniably liberal political platform to what would otherwise be an excellent family-focused story. The plot, while outlandish is believable, which always makes for good fantasy. In spite of all this palp, it is one of the few things Hollywood has produced that is fit for visual consumption by my family.
