My Favorite Films of All Time
This will be my absolute favorite films. Some are 4 to 5 Star movies that I could watch again and again... the best of the best.
Others are more cult hits or oddball favorites that I still adore.

- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenOrlando BloomA meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.Like I said with Star Wars (below), I would like this film to represent the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy on this list... (as a way to save space).
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherLuke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader.Honestly, I would put the Original Trilogy together as one film on this list to save space... but instead, I just chose the original Star Wars to represent the three films (Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi).
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsHarrison FordRutger HauerSean YoungA blade runner must pursue and terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator. What can be said that hasn't been said about this Ridley Scott masterpiece... except that I prefer the Final Cut version of it personally. I love owning the DVD set that has every version of the film on it... (George Lucas could learn a thing or two about making a proper DVD from Ridley Scott...) but out of them all, The Final Cut is the one I tend to watch.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsRussell CroweJoaquin PhoenixConnie NielsenA former Roman General sets out to exact vengeance against the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.Another masterful work by Ridley Scott (and probably not the last of his films to make this list). A great cast, an epic story and intense action make a memorable film that I can watch over and over...
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.Christopher Nolan's Batman films are a lesson on how to make comic book films become something more than expected of them. And as a trilogy, I'm just picking one to represent them all here... and I chose the best of the three, The Dark Knight. Everything just clicked here... but the performance of the late Heath Ledger as The Joker was one for the ages. Simply amazing.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.I adore this film. I adore the second film. I like the third film. But even with the weaker third film, this trilogy will forever be remember as one of the greatest of all time.
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsChris PineZachary QuintoSimon PeggThe brash James T. Kirk tries to live up to his father's legacy with Mr. Spock keeping him in check as a vengeful Romulan from the future creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time.I've always been a Star Wars fan, but unlike many of my brothers and sisters of The Force, I've enjoyed Star Trek as well. But I never thought a Star Trek movie would come along and be as good (or better) than my beloved Star Wars films. Then J.J. Abrams came along with this reboot of the franchise and I was blown away. This film blows the Star Wars prequel films out of the water, and is as good as the original Star Wars in my book. But in a fight, I'd still pick The Force over a phaser any day.
- DirectorTony GilroyStarsGeorge ClooneyTilda SwintonTom WilkinsonA law firm brings in its "fixer" to remedy the situation after a lawyer has a breakdown while representing a chemical company that he knows is guilty in a multibillion-dollar class action suit. This thrilling drama is all about the performances to me... George Clooney is at his sharpest, Tom Wilkinson was brilliant as ever and Tidla Swinton was a revelation. Excellent direction from Tony Gilroy helped keep things moving to the tense conclusion.
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsMichael CeraMary Elizabeth WinsteadKieran CulkinIn a magically realistic version of Toronto, a young man must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes one by one in order to win her heart.I've said before that this is the best video game film to date (and it isn't even based on a video game!). Yeah, it was actually a comic book film. But no film before it captured so much of the spirit of the gaming community as this film did. It is a love letter to all things geeky, but it gives extra care to show love to video games. A great cast, fantastic music and the sharp mind of director Edgar Wright turned what could have been a train wreck on film into a work of modern pop that has heart as well as flash.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsSigourney WeaverTom SkerrittJohn HurtThe crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin. This series has had its highs (the first two films) and lows (any film with "VS." in the title)... but it all started here with the tag line "In space, no one can hear you scream...". Well, I sure screamed. And I've loved this series ever since! Another Ridley Scott film on the list.
