- DirectorCharles PostMax LoweForest WoodwardWhile it takes a village to raise a child, it takes an entire hemisphere to raise a raptor. A landscape devoid of raptors is without ecological integrity, the barometer of our collective wellbeing. High atop these remote ridgelines above the Great Basin, a region of unforgiving deserts, mountain ranges and sagebrush steppes, is the frontline of raptor conservation. Our journey began and ended with the whisk of broad wings. The golden eagle took flight and floated skyward. We had joined the migration and followed golden eagles for thousands of miles-a fraction of their entire route-and just long enough to peek into their remarkable journey. We got to know and admire the biologists and passionate volunteers who briefly intercept a handful of them along the way, gathering information that will help generations of raptors to come. We drove, hiked, fished, and camped in the unforgiving landscapes that these wayward fliers have relied on for millennia. And perhaps most importantly, we experienced what stewardship and conservation can accomplish. Fifty years ago, golden eagles and their raptor allies hung on the edge of extinction. A collective decision was made to ensure that raptors must continue to flood autumn skies. And while the efforts of a few dozen biologists may seem insignificant, it's the cumulative effort over decades that counts, and it shapes the future of our planet's wild places and creatures.

- DirectorChristian TheedeStarsAnton SpiekerMichelle BarthelGustav-Peter WöhlerAfter even years loyally serving a colonial wares merchant, gold-honest, gullible optimist Hans follows the call of the sea, back to his coastal home and gets paid generously by his master with a heavy gold nugget. Tiring of the load, he expresses envy of a squire on horse-back, who eagerly switches his mount for the gold. Thrown off by the horse, Hans delights a farmer by switching it for a cow, and when another farmer claims it's an old one out of milk, the bovine for his pig, which a passing journeyman suggests may be reported stolen yet happily switches for his goose. This Hans trades for a scissor-grinder's deprecated spare grindstone as 'dream job', only to dump it in a pit due to its weight. - StarsAllison ArgoFrom PBS and NATURE - Exotic beauty, outrageous intelligence, and remarkably advanced language skills have made parrots one of the world's most popular pets. But unlike dogs and cats, parrots have not been domesticated. Their hard-wired ear-shattering squawks, and unpredictable behavior are designed for the rainforest, not for captivity. An intense need to bond, complex emotional lives, and the ability to reach ages of up to 80 or 90 years complicate the equation further. Sooner or later, many owners come to the conclusion that they have taken on a more difficult challenge than they can handle, and turn to already overcrowded shelters and sanctuaries for help. From the wilds of Costa Rica to the suburbs of our own country, parrot owners, rescuers, breeders, and biologists involved in conservation programs share their stories and the stories of their parrots in this bittersweet and unforgettable film about the difficulties and consequences of keeping and caring for parrots as pets.

- DirectorMiguel SilveiraManbird is a poetical documentary about the folkloric "pigeon man" of Chicago's Lincoln Square. Throughout the years millions of people stopped at the busy intersection of Lawrence Street and Western Avenue to watch Joseph Zeman sitting on top of a hydrant, entirely covered by birds. Manbird shows that Joe Zeman might have been the sanest presence in the whole neighborhood.
