- DirectorJochen HickStarsJohnny LawHolden GreyVin NolanLos Angeles in the year 2005: 19-year-old lads move through an apartment that has been equipped with webcams and looks like some sort of futuristic internet doll's house. Not-quite-so-young men fulfil their sexual dreams as protagonists in bareback productions. And, at private sex parties, almost every second guy has either taken part in a porn film or wants to. In 1997, I followed on camera the fortunes of a group of men who had chosen to wok - either artistically or commercially - with their bodies. This footage later become part of my 1998 documentary, SEX/LIFE IN L.A.. I'm still in touch with some of the men in that film, these include: lone battler Kevin Kramer, mature shooting star Cole Tucker, American boy-next-door Matt Bradshaw and friends of the occasional model John Garwood, who died of an overdose in 1998. Some of these men have successful careers behind them, others have left the sex industry altogether. Driven by a sense of adventure or by their narcissism, young men today are still keen to put their own stamp on porn cinema. But the days of a purely non-commercial fulfilment of one's sexual desires has long gone, and the interests of consumers, models and producers no longer coincide. Gay life - like the entire industry - has become something of a profession and is now thoroughly commercialized. Young models begin their sexual careers in internet containers; they enter the business fully aware of their self-exploitation and yet, at the same time, they are somehow unconscious of how they are being exploited. Meanwhile, bareback video producers scout the country in their motorhome on the lookout for new protagonists. But can there be winners in this game? Is there anything left of sex itself? And is there a life after porn?

Saint of 9/11 portrays Mychal's life as a spiritual adventure and an honest embrace of life, where alcoholism and sexuality were acknowledged. Featuring interviews and appearances by Lookout Records founder Larry Livermore, Jessie "Luscious" Townley (The Criminals, Alternative Tentacles), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys, Alternative Tentacles), Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band provides an essential history of a genre of alternative music that is only now beginning to be appreciated.
- DirectorTomer HeymannA group of transgender and gay Filipinos people emigrate to Israel to take care of elderly religious Jewish men. On their one day off per week, they perform as drag performers in a group called the Paper Dolls. On the political level, it explores the perils of global immigration. In this case, after the second Intifada, the Israeli government unofficially opened its doors to illegal workers to replace the Palestinians who were no longer allowed in the country. As tensions with the Palestinians eased, the government changed its policy and began to forcibly deport these foreign guest workers with dramatic consequences for our characters. On the human level, the film is about people who are rejected by their own families for being gay or transgender and who emigrate and end up with jobs taking care of other people's parents who have been rejected by their own children because they are old, difficult, etc. They work grueling hours to send money back to the Philippines to support the families that have rejected them. As unbelievable as it may seem, these very different people (old religious Jews and transgender people from the Philippines) form very deep, quasi familial bonds.

- DirectorHerve CohenGuetty FelinStarsBarack ObamaJoakim Felin-CohenYeelen Felin-CohenWinter 2008: An unrelenting roar has been mounting for several months in America, resonating all the way to Paris, where African-American expatriate filmmaker, Guetty Felin has been living a self-imposed exile for the last 20 years. Unable to resist the seething political atmosphere back home, she embarks French husband, Hervé Cohen (co-director) and their two sons 15 year-old Yeelen and Joakim 11, on a journey to bear witness to the historical grassroots movement that is uniting Americans across party and racial lines. And so, what began as a video diary of the political coming of age of their sons, would later turn into an electoral road movie across the country in the quest of rediscovering America and redefining oneself in it. For weeks on, as the mainstream media, political pundits spend airtime dissecting and fragmenting the American electorate, the couple journey across the country unearthing the compelling stories of an array of charismatic individuals, turning their lenses to a mosaic of American faces and lives: Congresswoman, lawyer, public defender, nurse, street musician, spoken word poet, punk rockers, environmentalist, rabbi, gay activists and a mellifluous flow of other individuals breathe life into the film. From Houston, Texas to Chapel Hill, North Carolina and from Roseburg, Oregon, to Boca Raton, Florida, via the Southside of Chicago, Illinois, we see Republicans and Democrats coming together to rethink and redefine democracy in America. The encounters, interwoven with sequences of Senator Obama at rallies but also town hall meetings interacting on a very personal level with the audience, help to move the narration forward, providing a new set of lenses through which the filmmakers view America today. By the end of the film, the couple discovers an answer to their question: Shall we return to America and engage in the changes to come? Shot entirely handheld, the strength of the film lies in its insider and outsider gaze, and is a powerful testament to the resilience of the American people and their desire to engage the country in a bold new direction.
- DirectorDustin Lance BlackStarsDustin Lance BlackDamon IntrabartoloWilliam KaufmanOn The Bus' original intention was to be a fun-loving, rambunctious, half-hour Internet program about a group of young, gay men on a bus trip from Los Angeles to Burning Man, a festival of radical self expression in the Nevada desert. However, after returning from a week of shooting, stereotypes had fallen apart, and it became clear that this story had far more to tell than a half hour internet show could lend. Almost immediately On The Bus challenges the viewer with the notion that "Even in absolute freedom, some things are still sacred." - Damon Intrabartolo (cast member #6) . It is here that Director Dustin Lance Black begins this story. Lance is hired by The Digital Entertainment Network (DEN) to produce, direct and participate in an Internet reality show with an all gay cast. He then hires Billy Kaufman as co-producer and cast member number two. Charles Kinsley, a gorgeous actor/waiter, Jason Webb, porn star Dean O'Conner, and Jimmy Sjodin, a Swedish Olympic diver soon follow. Concerned with the Network's desire to cast only the most attractive men, director Dustin Lance Black lobbies hard to include Damon Intrabartolo, an average looking music composer, who climbs on board armed with wry observations, and a biting wit. Once on the road, bumps along the way lend to an unplanned sleep-over in a Reno hotel. It is here that sexual tensions breed rivalry, the most intimate details of these fast new friends are revealed, and question number two arises, "Sex, Sex, Sex, maybe that's all there is." - frustrated director Dustin Lance Black. Arriving at Burning Man, it would seem that nothing is too radical or extreme for the adventuresome sextet. Innocence and experience come face to face as members of the cast explore the sexuality, drug culture, and wild freedom of the event. However, when sexual tensions finally come to a head, a sandstorm smashes through their campsite acting as a metaphor for the group's inner turmoil. Over the course of the week the show evolves, and sexual tensions take a back seat as the cameras delve into the often-conflicted souls of this eclectic group, shattering the happy-go-lucky stereotypes they were originally brought on board to brandish. Through newfound friendships, and forming animosities, these young men explore the darkness, freedom, joy, and adventure of Nevada's annual Burning Man event, and come out questioning the roles they play and the masks they wear in their daily lives.

- DirectorRingo RösenerMarkus SteinStarsJürgen WittdorfChristian SchulzHelwin LeuschnerThis documentary feature addresses the question of how gay men lived and could live their lives under 'real socialism', where GDR ideology considered homosexuality to be a remnant of bourgeois decadent morality and harmful to a socialist society. In that film we meet six men who talk openly about their social and intimate experiences, some for the first time, and get to know several individuals who could hardly be more diverse, or more contradictory. At one end of the scale is Frank Schäfer, a barber and a shrewd and resourceful individualist; at the other, Eduard Stapel, an academic theologist who founded a GDR-wide network of homosexual associations and upon whom the Stasi firmly set its sights. Even though homosexuality had not been punished since the 1950s, the conspiracy of silence, the condemnation, the pressure to conform to society and to sexual discretion remained. This story introduces us to a number of strong and - for all their pain - spirited men who were obliged to come to terms with their homosexuality alone, each with their own very different strategies for survival and adjustment.
- DirectorArron KinserStarsHashem AkbariSergia Louise AndersonGay BrowneThis film documents the unprecedented excitement in Washington, D.C. in the days surrounding January 20, 2009, when Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States. The filmmakers take viewers to a number of inaugural events, national monuments and the streets of Washington, interviewing a wide range of people along the way: celebrities, executives, politicians, young and old, male and female, gay and straight, a variety of ethnicities, with the primary focus on average people, the so-called man in the street. Viewers will feel and experience the inauguration as the average person did, but they will also hear from celebrities and the young man who helped Obama paint a homeless shelter bedroom on Martin Luther King Day, among others. People are asked what Obama's amazing journey has meant to them and what his story and his family means to them. And, in a unique and inspired twist, all those interviewed are asked to directly address the new President with their comments, questions, concerns, and hopes. The results are emotional, powerful and inspiring.

Small-town prejudices are further fueled by the father's admitted homosexuality and the common but erroneous stereotype that all gay men are child molesters. This documentary follows the journey of that family, reliving the horror of the first accusations through an initial guilty verdict, time in prison, the overturning of the first convictions and the eventual dropping of a subsequent case due to lack of evidence.

He is best known for his documentary photographs and his narrative monologues with slide projections. Many of Yang's works examine his Chinese family history, gay identity or themes such as AIDS. This short documentary looks at one aspect of William's work as a photographer - the photos he takes of male nudes. In many ways, this is the most personal and vulnerable of his work because it always involves a negotiation or transaction.
