Best Episodes out of 225 "Have Gun - Will Travel" series
When most people discovers the series "Have Gun - Will Travel" (aka HGWT) they notice some episodes are quirky, some are kinda stupid, many above average for a dramatic western and some give a person goosebumps along with a spine tingle. This observation not true for everyone but it addicted me right away. And though it is an old (1957-63) thirty minute long TV western drama, there has never been anything quite like it. And yet everything since copies parts of it. Here is a list of some of the best episodes IMHO of this American series.
SPOILER ALERT for all content that follows!
The main fictional character is the unlikely hero whose self-proclaimed name is simply "Paladin". Richard Boone's Paladin rarely objects to most of the occupation titles he is given. These titles include gunfighter, bounty hunter or (as his card reads) gun for hire but he will not be labeled assassin. Paladin's legendary descriptions correctly include but are not limited to "The gentleman gunfighter", renaissance man, West Point graduate, erudite in most subjects with classic literature and philosophy committed to rote memory, former civil war union cavalry officer, a man born with God's gifts of an extremely high IQ and rattlesnake-like reflexes, chess champion, unapologetic womanizer whose charm never leaves his arm nor his bed cold at his Carlton hotel home, qualified defense lawyer, a man not always proud of his current chosen profession, bible scholar, and (of course) "a knight without armor in a salvage land". Paladin draws right-handed with his signature first generation .45 caliber Colt Single Action revolver. Yet lesser men who luckily get the jump on Paladin are shocked (usually killed) when introduced to his special qualifications which include an ambidextrous nature and his well hidden three inch barreled Remington two shot derringer with an ivory handle. This is a fictional drama about a very ethical honorable diamond of a fellow in the rough 'west' whose fast gun for hire heeds the calling wind. So goes the man who's called . . . . PAL-A-DIN.
