- DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school. One of the most beautifully crafted movies ever created. It 100% gets the feeling of memory correct and how human emotions work. It's one of the few movies I've cried to just out of sheer emotion on how spot on it understands human memory. It does really make you reminisce in your life and realize that 90% of your memories are either gone or buried deep, but they all make you who you are. To the kids it's just a fun colorful adventure, but all the adults watching it with them are getting lost in their own memories and balling their eyes out on how correctly this movie describes how the human mind works.
- DirectorLee UnkrichAdrian MolinaStarsAnthony GonzalezGael García BernalBenjamin BrattAspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer. There was a good chance I would love a Dia De Los Muertos movie, but The Book of Life proved that even the setting of that holiday does not make a good movie. But then Coco came along and made a fantastic movie out of it! It's dark at times and barely a children's movie. Similarly to Inside Out, it really shows the importance of family and how even though everyone important to us will leave us one day, that does not mean that they are gone. Another Pixar ending that had me weeping at the end!
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonHolly HunterSarah VowellThe Incredibles family takes on a new mission which involves a change in family roles: Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) must manage the house while his wife Helen (Elastigirl) goes out to save the world.I didn't think Brad Bird could top the original, but I honestly think this one is better than the first! It is just so well written and has some of the best action scenes in a while. It may not have the deepness like the previous movies on the list, but it makes up for it in some of the best paced fun action. The family aspect from the first continues and has a cool twist on it when Elastigirl gets to be a hero again, while Mr Incredible has to stay at home. The villain is weaker than the first movie, but their plan and how the heroes react to it make it a fantastic thing to watch!
- DirectorBrad BirdJan PinkavaStarsBrad GarrettLou RomanoPatton OswaltA rat who can cook makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famous Paris restaurant. It's no surprise that Brad Bird's Pixar movies are all near the top. He's a fantastic film maker all around. This one just captures the beauty of food making, while appealing to children with the story of Remy. It's a love letter to food and to Paris and it is such a beautiful look at both of those aspects. I hope Bird makes more original movies like this, though he was able to make a fantastic Incredibles sequel, he might be able to make a fantastic Ratatouille sequel!
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonSamuel L. JacksonHolly HunterWhile trying to lead a quiet suburban life, a family of undercover superheroes are forced into action to save the world.Originally I was tepid on the first Incredibles. As a kid it kind of bored me. But re-watching it as an adult I really got into it. I don't have a family of my own yet, but the family aspect really hits you harder when you're older. I love the retro aspect to it's setting and all of the characters are great. The villain is a good villain in that he is unbearable and you want to see him lose. It's got a really great script and works well on so many levels.
- DirectorPete DocterBob PetersonStarsEdward AsnerJordan NagaiJohn Ratzenberger78-year-old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls in his house equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway. This time out Pixar decided to break everyone's heart at the start of the movie! This is overall just a superbly original setting to a movie and a really fun adventure. Who knew an animated movie about a 80 year old man would turn out fantastic and be one of Pixar's most fantastic movies to boot! All of the characters are so well done and this one gets pretty dark towards the end too! There's just so much to love here!
- DirectorJosh CooleyStarsTom HanksTim AllenAnnie PottsWhen a new toy called "Forky" joins Woody and the gang, a road trip alongside old and new friends reveals how big the world can be for a toy.Just came out, but really loved this movie and had a damn great time watching it. They probably didn't need to make a 4th, but it turned out fantastically! The new characters are fun and even the "villain" is something unique and different. I might enjoy this more than the past 3, but it's mostly due to the improvements in animation and story telling. The first two will always hold their legacy, but from a writing and story perspective I'm really feeling like 4 might be the best?? Who knows, only time will tell.
- DirectorAndrew StantonAngus MacLaneStarsEllen DeGeneresAlbert BrooksEd O'NeillFriendly but forgetful blue tang Dory begins a search for her long-lost parents and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.I honestly find this movie to be so much better than the first. I love the setting of it all as went to the local Sea World many times as a kid. The animation is extremely beautiful and it was good so see them actually make Dory a likable character! The ending is another tear jerker, which Pixar does so damn well!
- DirectorAndrew StantonStarsBen BurttElissa KnightJeff GarlinIn the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind.Despite there not being that much dialogue, Pixar knocks it out of the park with Wall-E by telling a story mostly through the expressions of the two lead characters. It's amazing that they can tell such an enthralling story with so little talking. It's not until the end that the plot kicks into gear, but I could honestly just have watched Wall-E and Eve have an aimless adventure! It's a love story with robots that works.
- DirectorJohn LasseterStarsTom HanksTim AllenDon RicklesA cowboy doll is profoundly threatened and jealous when a new spaceman action figure supplants him as top toy in a boy's bedroom.Still a classic all these years later. The animation is starting to age, but it's still pretty damn fantastic considering it's nearly 30 years old! It still gets to you, especially if you grew up with it. This was one of my firs movies I saw in a theater and one I watched on VHS repeatedly through out my young life. Still one of their best and the classic that made the studio what it is today!
- DirectorJohn LasseterAsh BrannonLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackWhen Woody is stolen by a toy collector, Buzz and his friends set out on a rescue mission to save Woody before he becomes a museum toy property with his roundup gang Jessie, Prospector, and Bullseye.Just as good as the first movie, but with a lot more story to it. Jessie's story is heartbreaking and Woody realizing that even though he is Andy's toy that he might have other toys depending on him. A great adventure and it was really funny to have the rest of the toys come on the adventure this time!
- DirectorLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackThe toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home.Who thought they'd keep the streak going 15 years after the original? It's cool to see how much the animation has improved by just seeing how different this one looks from the other two. It adds on some new characters really well, while keeping the whole gang the focus. It's a bittersweet ending as I aged at the same rate that Andy did since the first one. Like Inside Out, this one makes you think of all the wonderful memories you had as a kid with all of your favorite toys and makes you realize how important they were to you and your imagination.
- DirectorAndrew StantonLee UnkrichStarsAlbert BrooksEllen DeGeneresAlexander GouldAfter his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.I'm not as big a fan of Nemo as everyone else is. There are stretches of it where I was bored as a kid. It's more enjoyable as an adult, but I still can't stand Dory in this movie. The 2nd movie really improves her character a whole lot. It's a decent adventure that Is enjoyable, just not Pixar's top movie.
- DirectorPete DocterDavid SilvermanLee UnkrichStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanMary GibbsIn order to power the city, monsters have to scare children so that they scream. However, the children are toxic to the monsters, and after a child gets through, two monsters realize things may not be what they think. One I've enjoyed more as an adult than I did with a kid. This one bored me when I was young, but I like it more as I got older. Boo is adorable and she really makes the main characters more fun to watch. Both leads are great, though I'm not a huge fan of Billy Crystal's voice, but it does the character justice. The bit towards the end where they get banished slogs the pace down a little bit, but it's still a fun movie with some heart.
- DirectorJohn LasseterJoe RanftStarsOwen WilsonBonnie HuntPaul NewmanOn the way to the biggest race of his life, a hotshot rookie race car gets stranded in a rundown town and learns that winning isn't everything in life.I thoroughly enjoyed Cars when it first came out, but on repeat viewings it loses a lot and it kinda doesn't feel like a Pixar movie. It's got it's moments, but it's for sure on the lower spectrum of their movies.
- DirectorMark AndrewsBrenda ChapmanSteve PurcellStarsKelly MacdonaldBilly ConnollyEmma ThompsonDetermined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.Pixar's take on the Disney princess ends up being a super generic movie and really not that good at all. It barely feels like a Pixar movie. If you told me DreamWorks made this, I would believe you. Hell, even the Dragon and Panda series are better than this! Nothing original here.
- DirectorBrian FeeStarsOwen WilsonCristela AlonzoChris CooperLightning McQueen sets out to prove to a new generation of racers that he's still the best race car in the world. Not a terrible movie, but this one mostly just bored me. It's got a good message and Lightning realizing he wasn't gonna be #1 forever is a powerful message to everyone. But most of the movie is a training movie which loses it's interest fast.
- DirectorJohn LasseterAndrew StantonStarsKevin SpaceyDave FoleyJulia Louis-DreyfusA misfit ant, looking for "warriors" to save his colony from greedy grasshoppers, recruits a group of bugs that turn out to be an inept circus troupe. One I loved as a kid that I am now indifferent to. It's not terrible, it's Seven Samurai for kids which I admire, but it's just a bit too simple for most of the movie. The animation in this doesn't hold up as well as Toy Story does. It's an okay watch, but I just lose interest in it quickly.
- DirectorDan ScanlonStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanSteve BuscemiA look at the relationship between Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sully" Sullivan during their days at Monsters University, when they weren't necessarily the best of friends. Not that great at all. It's somewhat interesting to see young versions of Sulley and Mike, but the whole movie is just a PG version of a college teen comedy. It's really full of clichés and just not that well written. A really by the books script and plot. The enemies, become friends plot is so over done mixed with the underdog aspect set in college. I just felt like I was watching every college comedy ever.
- DirectorJohn LasseterBradford LewisStarsOwen WilsonLarry the Cable GuyMichael CaineStar race car Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. But the road to the championship becomes rocky as Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. At the time this came out, this was the worst of the worst. Mater is the worst Pixar character ever created, now why in the hell did they decide to make a whole goddamn movie about him?!?! I know Owen Wilson was going through some mental issues at the time, but why change it all to have Mater be the lead? Why not just wait to do the movie until Owen was better. It's so unfunny and not even a fun Bond ripoff. Larry The Cable Guy is annoying and shouldn't be allowed to be in movies. The animation is the ONLY good thing about this. And kind of how unafraid they were to murder cars!
- DirectorPeter SohnStarsJeffrey WrightFrances McDormandMaleah Nipay-PadillaIn a world where dinosaurs and humans live side-by-side, an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. The worst Pixar movie because of how goddamn boring it is. This is beyond awful. The lead dinosaur is so fucking annoying and whiny beyond belief that I could barely watch it. The story is bland and unoriginal. Nothing about this is special, interesting, or original. The forced in antagonists are awful. They show up in the middle, leave the movie, only for them to create the action conflict at the very end of the movie. It's just a really boring movie where a dinosaur walks and meets other dinosaurs. I don't know how anyone at Pixar greenlit this movie. The director is a former animator and Pixar and not suited for writing/directing. Barely anyone saw this in theaters and it's a good thing. Their kids would have been bored to death and even the adults would want to leave too. I can barely even remember anything from this movie it is so dull!
- DirectorDan ScanlonStarsTom HollandChris PrattJulia Louis-DreyfusIn a magical world full of technological advances, elven brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot set out on an adventure to resurrect their late father for a day.Yet to be released. The idea of what if a fantasy world existed in a modern world is neat, though the last time they pushed an older era to a more modern one we got The Good Dinosaur which was garbage. It's director did Monster University which is the definition of mediocre Pixar...so I'm skeptical about how this will turn out.
- DirectorPete DocterKemp PowersStarsJamie FoxxTina FeyGraham NortonJoe is a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn't quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul.Yet to be released. Pete Doctor is the gold standard when it comes to original works from Pixar so this is the 2020 one I'm most excited for. Inside Out had us all weeping remembering our memories, so I'm expecting this one to hit us right in the heart too! Good to see a Pixar year with original movies!
