- DirectorRick GreenwaldStarsJonathan BirdBrett BushJordan CarlsonWhile most sports films celebrate the quest for a championship, "Quantum Hoops" follows a team that is searching for a single win. The documentary chronicles the final week of the 2006 Caltech basketball season. The team is currently in the midst of a 21 year losing streak - over 240 consecutive conference losses. Caltech is annually considered one of the top 5 academic institutions in the world yet its athletic department always takes a back seat to the achievements of its world renowned faculty, Nobel prize winners, and advancements in the world of science and technology. The film "Real Genius (1985)" was a not-so-subtle take on Caltech life. To the casual fan, the team might sound like a bad joke. There are more valedictorians on the team than players with high school basketball experience. In fact, the 5 seniors did not play high school basketball, yet all five are major contributors to the team. They are roundly mocked by opposing fans as "nerds playing basketball" (the few fans that decide its even worth it to show up). However, this season would mark an amazing turnaround from just two years ago when the team would lose by an average margin of over 60 points per game. Against remarkable odds and adversity, the players and coaches dedication, discipline, heart, and yes, SKILL would make for one of the most exciting seasons in school history. The final home game of the year would give the 5 seniors one last shot at that elusive win and an entry into the history books of college athletics.

- DirectorJørgen LethStarsDavid SaundersRoger De VlaeminckMarc DemeyerThe film follows the French Paris-Roubaix spring classic, notorious for the hellish paves or cobbled roads of the north "which are no longer used for traffic but only for transporting cattle - and for cycle races". We are there from the dawn preparations and rituals on the outskirts of Paris and through the rigours of the race with special focus on a number of prominent cyclists to the final outcome on the Roubaix cycle track - followed by the filthy riders taking their showers. There is also an eye for life among the spectators and the media event as such. The film alternates among different kinds of shot with a view to establishing the most suitable view of the narrative: shots from motorcycles, which are able to convey the motion of the race and provide close ups of the riders in the style of television cycle race reporting; fixed cameras stationed at strategically important points along the route, where viewers can watch riders passing in real time and thus gain a clear overview of the distance between the leaders and the main field: and the Olympian eye of the helicopter shots.

- DirectorAnne AghionStarsAllan AshworthAndrew PodollAdam R. LewisUnique in the genre of exploration and adventure films, ICE PEOPLE takes you on one of the earth's most seductive journeys-Antarctica. Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker Anne Aghion spent four months "on the ice" with modern-day polar explorers, to find out what drives dedicated researchers to leave the world behind in pursuit of science, and to capture the true experience of living and working in this extreme environment. And, as it turns out, the film also witnesses one of the most significant discoveries about climate change in recent Antarctic science. Intense public focus on climate change has turned the shores of Antarctica into a new tourist mecca, making the earth's coldest continent the hot place to be. But, inland from the penguins and ice floes is a magical Antarctica of volcanoes, boulder-strewn valleys and ominous glaciers. Only a small number of scientific research teams get there, braving severe conditions to learn about our planet's history, and make predictions about our future. ICE PEOPLE heads out into the "deep field" with noted geologists Allan Ashworth and Adam Lewis, and two undergrad scientists-in-the-making, where they scour across hundreds of miles to find tiny, critical signs of ancient life. Their findings would give the first evidence of a green Antarctica over 14 million years ago, that disappeared with a sudden shift in the temperature of the continent. The most authentic film about life on the ice since the trailblazing expeditions to Antarctica chronicled nearly a century ago, ICE PEOPLE conveys the vast beauty, the claustrophobia, the excitement and the stillness of an experience set to nature's rhythm.

- DirectorGemma AtwalGemma Atwal's dynamic epic follows four-year-old Budhia, rescued from poverty by Biranchi Das, a larger-than-life judo coach and operator of an orphanage for slum children in the eastern Indian state of Orissa. When Budhia displays an uncommon talent for long-distance running, Biranchi nurtures his gift, heralding him as a folk hero for the impoverished masses, and maybe even for India itself. But after golden child Budhia breaks down during a world-record 65 kilometer run at the age of four, public opinion begins to turn on the guru and his disciple, and soon the two are swept up in a maelstrom of media controversy and political scandal. Following Budhia's roller-coaster journey over five years, Marathon Boy is a Dickensian tale of greed, corruption, and broken dreams set between the heart-racing world of marathon running, the poverty-stricken slums, and the political intrigue of a modernizing India. Nothing is what it seems in Budhia and Biranchi's story, and Atwal continually shifts viewer identification to tell both a shocking story of opportunism and exploitation, but also a touching portrait of an authentic bond between a parent and child.

- DirectorDavid V. NicholsonStarsPeter OuterbridgeSteven SchlozmanDaniel W. DreznerZombies: are they real? Every culture creates its own version of a zombie. There have been diseases in history that have mimicked behavior of a zombie virus. The plausibility is there. You would never be up against one zombie.you would be up against thousands or millions of zombies. How would you survive? There would have to be total destruction of the zombie spine. Death is mans ultimate fear. There is something more frightening when the dead come back to life and become our worst nightmare. Jonathan Mayberry (Author of Rot and Ruin and Dead of Night) says they are like insectsyou are surrounded on all sides. You cant outrun them, you cant kill them. Max Brooks (Author of World War Z) says that zombies come after the whole human race. Modern zombies come from a film made in 1968 by a as then unknown director George Romero (Night of the Living Dead). George Romero rewrote the book about zombies says Max Brooks. What started as a low budget horror movie became an international sensation. More than half of all zombie movies have been made since September 11, 2001. Romero did not invent the zombie. The smell of death. Burials in locked and sealed coffins, tombs, underground, were our way of making sure the dead would not come back. In 2009 2 bodies were dug up by archaeologist and they had rocks in their mouths. Archaeologists speculated that they were buried this way to prevent them from dining on the living. The Greek invented a word for the dead rising Maschalismos which means to mutilate the body so it doesnt come back from the dead. The Chinese restrained the body. The Norse would take the dead body out of the house feet first so it wouldnt recognize where it had come from. We now bolt a coffin shut. A good death and a bad death. A bad death makes the spirit vengeful. The resurrection of Christ is symbolic of coming back from the dead in positive ways. Hes the anti-zombie. Zombies are always hungry. Cannibalism is a fear.
