- DirectorWes AndersonStarsRalph FiennesF. Murray AbrahamMathieu AmalricA writer encounters the owner of an aging high-class hotel, who tells him of his early years serving as a lobby boy in the hotel's glorious years under an exceptional concierge.I'm a big Wes Anderson fan. Combine him with a fascinating period setting and one of the best casts in film history, how can I not be chomping at the bit to see this.
- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsEllar ColtranePatricia ArquetteEthan HawkeThe life of Mason, from early childhood to his arrival at college. The Sundance reviews on this thing are incredible. I'm a big fan of Linklater's work in the 'Before' trilogy, and School of Rock, and this film is too ambitious not to see. Filmed over 12 Years! Chances are it will hit that coveted sentimental spot in my heart.
- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsJoaquin PhoenixJosh BrolinOwen WilsonIn 1970, drug-fueled Los Angeles private investigator Larry "Doc" Sportello investigates the disappearance of a former girlfriend.I'm a big Paul Thomas Anderson fan. There Will Be Blood is an all time favorite of mine, and I love Magnolia. The Master and Punch Drunk Love are flawed, but incredibly unique and well made films. I'm always down for anything with Joaquin Phoenix, and when backed by this cast, and a film noir plot, how can I resist.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsMatthew McConaugheyAnne HathawayJessica ChastainWhen Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, is tasked to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers, to find a new planet for humans. It's Nolan. I'm a bit of a fanboy (even if I was underwhelmed by Dark knight Rises), and I'm very excited to see what this one is all about. The teaser looks beyond epic.
- DirectorJohn Michael McDonaghStarsBrendan GleesonChris O'DowdKelly ReillyAfter he is threatened during a confession, a good-natured priest must battle the dark forces closing in around him.The McDonagh brothers produced one of my all time favorite films (In Bruges), as well as two that I love (The Guard and Seven Psycopaths). Of course I want to see anything that comes from either of their minds. Early word says this is even better than In Bruges. Brendan Gleeson is one of the most underrated working actors, and the film sounds like it really gives him a chance to shine.
- DirectorBennett MillerStarsSteve CarellChanning TatumMark RuffaloU.S. Olympic wrestling champions and brothers Mark Schultz and Dave Schultz join "Team Foxcatcher", led by eccentric multi-millionaire John du Pont, as they train for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, but John's self-destructive behavior threatens to consume them all.Fascinating plot, and Steve Carell as a sociopath. I've gotta see this.
- DirectorPhil LordChristopher MillerStarsChris PrattWill FerrellElizabeth BanksAn ordinary LEGO construction worker, thought to be the prophesied as "special", is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the LEGO universe into eternal stasis.Combine the writers of 21 Jump Street, great reviews, a voice cast that includes Liam Neeson, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Jonah Hill, and Channing Tatum, with something out of my childhood fantasies, and you have cinematic gold.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBen AffleckRosamund PikeNeil Patrick HarrisWith his wife's disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it's suspected that he may not be innocent. It's a Fincher film. 'Nuff said.
- DirectorWally PfisterStarsJohnny DeppRebecca HallMorgan FreemanA scientist's drive for artificial intelligence takes on dangerous implications when his own consciousness is uploaded into one such program. No idea if it will end up being good or not, but I want to see what Cinematographer Wally Pfister has learned from Nolan. It's an interesting plot and a good cast. At the very least, it will be gorgeous to look at.
- DirectorAngelina JolieStarsJack O'ConnellMiyaviDomhnall GleesonAfter a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he's caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.An already great story, adapted by the Coen Brothers...I'm interested. Jolie could prove to be a great director, and this is the film that could finally nab Roger Deakins an Oscar.
