- DirectorArthur HotalingStarsJack HopkinsGeorge ReehmMae HotelyThe call of summer was in the blood of Fred Perkins and George Smith. They longed to disport themselves upon the sands and in the waves by the seaside. But, alas! They were married. Fearful handicap! Still being brave and also clever, they proceeded to overcome this disadvantage. Fred suddenly had a nervous breakdown, shaking all over most fearfully in the presence of his wife. Just at the right time, George brought around a doctor, who was something of a sport himself. Doc looked serious. He must go away for a couple of weeks to the mountains, said Doc. Friend George nobly presented himself to be his caretaker, waving aside all considerations of neglect to his business or other inconvenience. Noble man! In due time, the invalid and his friend, roughly dressed and carrying kettles, pans and other camping paraphernalia, said good-bye to their wives. Then they hit the high places for a thick wood, not far distant where they had hidden two suitcases full of clothes. After dressing in their gay garments, Fred had entirely recovered from his nervous breakdown; they took the fastest train for gay Atlantic City. There they met a couple of young ladies, with whom they rode along the boardwalk in rolling chairs, and later went in bathing. Meanwhile, Mrs. Perkins and Mrs. Smith, being lonely, decided to spend a couple of days in Atlantic City. Thither they went in Mrs. Smith's motor car. Their room in the hotel overlooked the beach, and there after talking for a while and wondering how their husbands were getting along in the lonely mountains, far from civilization's comfort, they sighed and looked out over the beach, where a great crowd of bathers were enjoying themselves. They looked through field-glasses. Suddenly, Mrs. Perkins ejaculated, "Oh!" She handed the glasses to Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith looked and she also ejaculated, "Oh!" for they had recognized their husbands with the two girls in the surf, and they certainly did not look as though they were ill. If did not take Mrs. Perkins and Mrs. Smith very long to get to the beach. Their husbands saw them coming and tried to escape by running into the water. But that did not stop the angry wives for an instant. Into the water they waded. Each grabbed her recreant spouse by the hair and led him upon the shore, where they administered a just punishment.
- Timothy Hair, a much bewhiskered individual, falls in love with a hair dresser's pretty daughter, and entering the shop casts a note at the young lady, who sits demurely at her desk. The note informs Miss Edith that the writer loves her devotedly, and asks when he can see her alone. It is signed Timothy Hair, and Edith makes a mental note that the writer has been singularly well named. She also throws him a note telling him to wait until her father goes out. Accordingly Timothy orders the attendant to dress his hair and, finding at the conclusion of the operation that father has not yet gone out, leaves the shop, enters again and then demands a haircut. Meanwhile naughty Miss Edith has shown the note to her lover, one of her father's assistants, and both are convulsed with laughter as Timothy's love locks are shorn off. Not only is he obliged to have his beard and whiskers shorn off in order to have some excuse for waiting until father goes out. But all in vain, too, for when the operation is completed, Miss Edith and her lover leave the shop together, leaving poor Timothy regarding himself in the glass. Even his friends do not recognize him and at last he is forced to sport a beard made of crepe hair and a wig in order to get along at all.
- DirectorMack SennettStarsMack SennettMabel NormandDell HendersonA cigar drummer comes to the village and is at once attracted by Hank Hawkins' sweetheart, who is in turn flattered by his attentions. Poor Hank is forgotten even by his sweetheart's folks, with whom the drummer makes quite a hit. A party is given at the girl's house, to which Hank does not receive an "invite." As the drummer is the guest of honor he is master of ceremonies, hence when a suggestion is made to make some taffy, he insists on cooking it. Hank views the festivities through the window, and, to get even, he doses the taffy, which they put on the windowsill to cool, with Tobasco sauce. You may imagine the result.
- DirectorPhillips SmalleyStarsCharles De ForrestVivian PrescottNellie consents to marry Charlie. Father refuses to give his consent. He orders Charlie out of the house. Nellie is heartbroken. She writes a letter telling him she is going to pretend she has taken poison by mistake and scare her father; the maid will be sent for the doctor and instead of going for a real doctor will get Charlie. While leaving the room to get an envelope, the maid enters and reads the letter; she pours some hair tonic into the bottle. Nellie takes the supposed poison and nearly goes into convulsions. The maid calls her father, who calls a real doctor. The doctor tastes the poison and gives Nellie a glass of medicine. Charlie arrives and tips the maid so she will not give away their scheme. He fixes his false beard and enters. The real doctor, becoming indignant, leaves the house. Nellie begs her father to send for Charlie as she is going to die. The doctor leaves the room; he goes down stairs and removes his beard. Her father leaves the room and discovers the beard in the hall. He returns to the bedroom and, much to Nellie's and Charlie's disappointment, throws the latter out.
- DirectorFrank CooleyStarsNeva GerberWebster CampbellKing ClarkLiving up to her reputation as a flirt, Henrietta gives cause for keen competition among three male admirers as to who shall take her to a dance. Her friend, Alice Wren, who is visiting her, holds opposite views regarding men and when at the dance Henrietta voices her admiration for Dan Mathews, Alice tells her chum that he is a different kind of a man and cannot be caught by the wiles of a coquette. Not being introduced, Dan pays little attention to the charming Henrietta, which causes the flirt to become more determined to interest him. Next morning she forms a plan, sending him each month a calendar tastily arranged on her photograph. Beginning with February, Dan receives the photo-calendar with indifference, but as each following month brings another, his curiosity is aroused. Dan's room has become a veritable picture gallery with the poses of Henrietta greeting the view from every side. In the meantime Alice becomes engaged to Bob Henshaw and Henrietta is chosen as maid of honor at the wedding. Dan being Bob's best friend, is naturally selected as best man. While the two men are talking in Dan's apartment, Bob notices Henrietta's pictures and teases him for concealing his romance. Dan explains that he has never met the sender of the calendars, whereupon Bob tells him as she is to be the maid of honor at the wedding, he will soon have the chance. Following the ceremony Dan secures a confession from Henrietta that she is the author of the calendar plan and makes her heart glad by a proposal of marriage which, it is needless to say, is quickly accepted. When the engagement is announced, Alice is anxious to learn how it was brought about, but Henrietta keeps her secret to herself and settles down to a life of happiness.
