- DirectorTerrence MalickStarsBrad PittSean PennJessica ChastainThe story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1956. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with his parents' conflicting teachings.this is possibly the best of the decade and the finest work of Terence Malik, the form is unusual and slow but not a single moment i blinked my eyes, and it's not only about the visuals but also about someone's spiritual journey to understand himself, his life, and the world. one of the best experience i've ever had watching a movie.
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsCharlotte GainsbourgStellan SkarsgårdWillem DafoeThe continuation of Joe's sexually dictated life delves into the darker aspects of her adulthood, obsessions and what led to her being in Seligman's care.this film i think (along with the volum. I) is the best film by Trier since Breaking the Waves. when you think that film like Peeping Tom is the best example of understanding and symphatizing people with disorder, then this film will do the exact job but also made you wanna run away from it as fast as possible. the spectrum of emotions that i feel when watching this film is like eating in a big feast of different kinds of foods from different kinds of nation, it made me sick, sad, happy, laugh, depressed, symphatize, then sick again, and aroused both in good and bad way.
- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsEllar ColtranePatricia ArquetteEthan HawkeThe life of Mason, from early childhood to his arrival at college.the film taste like wine, it took 12 years through the bittersweet of the production and risking a lot of things in the process, and it reflected in the film. there's a plot in this film although it's not in a traditional sense of hollywood nor in the infamous variety of european form, the film is not only reflecting life but life itself, it flows freely and unpredictable, it doesn't have a dramatic film trick nor ending. it leave me with wanting to know more about his life more than i wanna know mine, or the kardashians lol.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsAndrew GarfieldAdam DriverLiam NeesonIn the 17th century, two Portuguese Jesuit priests travel to Japan in an attempt to locate their mentor, who is rumored to have committed apostasy, and to propagate Catholicism.the film is in my top 5 best Scorsese films, every atheist would probably laugh out loud at this film on how naive the character is throughout the film, it's a beautiful and heartbreaking tale of belief and the people who possessed it, there could be two interpretation of the film, the one is the naive ones and the other is a more scientific one. either way, it really showed to the audience on how the power belief could shape a person's life.
- DirectorAsghar FarhadiStarsPayman MaadiLeila HatamiSareh BayatA married couple are faced with a difficult decision - to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimer's disease.the casts were all superb, takes a professional actors to perform as well as these performances. the writer and director digs deeper and deeper into human traits and their three dimensions and plays with them and end up to be a brilliant and honest storytelling. they're not afraid to embarrassed the characters and that what makes it so honest about this picture.
- DirectorMichael HanekeStarsJean-Louis TrintignantEmmanuelle RivaIsabelle HuppertGeorges and Anne are an octogenarian couple. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple's bond of love is severely tested.forget about romeo and juliet, this is the real deal. now this is some serious *beep* here, one of the most heartbreaking film i've ever seen. hands down to haneke for his mind because his films is that good (Cache, White Ribbon) and this is probably and arguably his best
- DirectorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsBrie LarsonFrantz TurnerJohn Gallagher Jr.A 20-something supervising staff member of a residential treatment facility navigates the troubled waters of that world alongside her co-worker and longtime boyfriend.one of the best films about troubled kids. took place in a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers where of course the place filled with troubled kids with worse even worst situation at home. there are 4 staffs at the place but 1 is the main focus on the film, she is Grace, a staff that looks like any other staff that has a relationship with another staff and one of the best supervising staff because she can handle the kids. but beyond all those things, she has a scar that actually made her better at her work but refuse to go any further with her boyfriend when they find out about a baby, the reason of all that is maybe one of the most shocking and heartbreaking. just see for yourself
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsMatt DillonBruno GanzUma ThurmanIn five episodes, failed architect and vicious sociopath Jack recounts his elaborately orchestrated murders -- each, as he views them, a towering work of art that defines his life's work as a serial killer in the Pacific Northwest.this film is really about art and how people receive it, the kind that Jack made is the forbidden one, the sublime artwork hidden away in the old cathedral for only god to see. in an interview, Trier said that Jack's character is close to him except that he doesn't kill people, meaning that the kind of art that Trier made is something that the art police (my surname for critics and their politicaly correct issue) would dismiss, despite that, the real film critic loved this film, and i admire it not for being artsy-fartsy (it's not, but a lot of people think that it is just because of the symbolism and such) but as a pure expression of self, no politics, no propaganda, just a depiction and a detail of a man whom destined to hell.
- DirectorLenny AbrahamsonStarsBrie LarsonJacob TremblaySean BridgersA little boy is held captive in a room with his mother since his birth, so he has never known the world outside.have never experienced something like this before, it's because there's never been something like this before. the story, the plot, the actors, the direction, it is so strong it should win every awards. the film is a REAL success to showed a world in a child's eyes which is a very innocent world when in fact it is a really messed up world.
- DirectorLuca GuadagninoStarsTimothée ChalametArmie HammerMichael StuhlbargIn 1980s Italy, romance blossoms between a seventeen-year-old student and the older man hired as his father's research assistant.FINALLY! it's rare to see such a beautiful same-sex love story without being too political about it. it really is about first love more than about gay love. and it has a perfect cast. it's also rare to see a film about a growing love without being cheesy about it. every scene that was played out felt so natural and even some scene somehow felt very poetic. another film that would portray a state of falling in love as almost perfect as this is Leon Morin, Priest. it was about an atheist who fall in love with a priest. and both are two of my favorite films.
- DirectorMichael Dudok de WitStarsEmmanuel GarijoTom HudsonBaptiste GoyA man is shipwrecked on a deserted island and encounters a big red turtle, which changes his life.one of the most beautiful film i've ever watched. it's beautiful yet heartbreaking. the film didn't feature any dialog, matter of fact there are no cast in imdb page yet still i can feel all the emotions that the film is giving us. and how cool it is that ghibli is also a part of this film.
- DirectorOrson WellesStarsJohn HustonOja KodarPeter BogdanovichAt a media-swamped party to celebrate his 70th birthday and screen his avant-garde film-in-progress, a legendary but jaded Hollywood director is faced both with voracious fans and unsettling questions about what became of his lead actor.with the fast paced shots (just like any welles's films) packed with dialogues that might be 90 percent improvised or added spontaneously, this elusive masterpiece described and parodied not only Orson himself but also the natural state of the film industry whether it's the 70's and even now. the movie buffs, critics, the directors, the midgets, and the young juices, played like a never ending dream sequence orchestrated by god himself, Welles.
- DirectorRonit ElkabetzShlomi ElkabetzStarsRonit ElkabetzSimon AbkarianGabi AmraniAfter a lukewarm marriage of over twenty years, a woman appeals to her husband's compassion to obtain the desirable divorce document in front of a court, which proves to be more challenging than she would expect.it's about two things, religious rules that disadvantage one being, and troubled person hiding behind it. a woman in Israel could get a divorce if the husband gave it to her, now of course there's no reason to get a divorce if the wife is a happy person living as a wife and mother and to be that person of course the husband should gave her the daily food and everything and the wife should be the wife every man wanted to. now i called that 'system' that has been fed by a lot of people from a long time ago especially in certain countries. to watch this film is to say to everybody that 'it's not that simple'. the system could be a dangerous weapon to hurt others, you gotta watch this film.
- DirectorAng LeeStarsSuraj SharmaIrrfan KhanAdil HussainA young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger.once again Ang Lee proves us that he is among those great directors from the beginning of filmmaking until now, he is the best director of our generation in my opinion. Chinese martial art, marvel superhero, british period drama, cowboy love, and now Indian culture, they're all never failed.
- DirectorNuri Bilge CeylanStarsDogu DemirkolMurat CemcirBennu YildirimlarAn unpublished writer returns to his hometown after graduating, where he seeks sponsors to publish his book while dealing with his father's deteriorating indulgence into gambling.the film depicted a cliche plot of life that happen everywhere in the world that nobody in hollywood would ever produce. it's a loser story, something that might not be "inspiring", "uplifting", and just plain depressing and plays at key minor at an instrument (even tho there's some note changes at the end). it's a taboo song that people often treat as a myth. it's like discovering Bicycle Thieves and Mouchette once again.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business.here is a person who meet the requirements as the youngest millionaire in the world. as portrayed in the film, he's someone who think that he is a nerd and tried to be a jerk, he used every trick and did every move to his benefit but with less caring of others (even his bestfriend) and even step into his success out of anger of her ex breaking with him and called him a**hole, he use other person's idea and expand it and invent it under his name. but he talk fast, think fast, and have a brain of a person could get once a decade. and the film made me realize that we still have a chance not only to have millions of dollar like Mark Zuckerberg or to have 500 million friends but a chance to live and to learn and to win.
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsMiles TellerJ.K. SimmonsMelissa BenoistA promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.Whiplash or should i call the unexpected virtue of going overboard? lol, which for me is more brilliant than Birdman. this film is about people who push their bounderies not to become the next Charlie Parker, but become their own great name. and it's amazing to see that. and about that last scene is a heart pounding beyond anything, and that's how it feels like to do beyond boundaries.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsAmy AdamsJeremy RennerForest WhitakerA linguist works with the military to communicate with alien lifeforms after twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.there are several films that tried to look smart but only made them look stupid (people will hate me for this but yeah... Interstellar, The Usual Suspect). but this one tried to look smart and as much as i want to see some holes and other ridiculous things, i gotta admit that this is a smart film that tried to be smart, so it's cocky, but in a good way lol, it's a freaking good film!. but not only smart, it also got a great human story, great writing, great direction, etc. simply one of the best sci-fi film ever.
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsChristian BaleSteve CarellRyan GoslingIn 2006-2007 a group of investors bet against the United States mortgage market. In their research, they discover how flawed and corrupt the market is.the film is a breath of fresh air in the year 2015. the characters are very interesting as well as the story. there's no hero in this story, the film ends with a lot of americans lose their job and their houses. but the story didn't need a hero. it needs to speak through the film what is the real's REAL!
- DirectorAlice RohrwacherStarsAdriano TardioloAgnese GrazianiAlba RohrwacherAn unceasingly kind Italian peasant and his family are blatantly exploited by a tobacco baroness.Happy as Lazzaro reminded me of old european films like Miracle in Milan, Au Hasard Balthazar, and more, it has it's pureness that no hollywood film can touch. the way logic works in this film didn't go in line with marvel films, Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man because a spider, Tony Stark becomes Iron Man because of money, and Lazzaro becomes Lazzaro because he is a good guy, i mean i would be surprised that with the level of virtue that he has (probably something that we would hear from the story of jesus and muhammad) that he can't grow a single carrot by miracle. Lazzaro is a miracle from a forgotten realm in Italy.
- DirectorBen AffleckStarsBen AffleckBryan CranstonJohn GoodmanActing under the cover of a Hollywood producer scouting a location for a science fiction film, a CIA agent launches a dangerous operation to rescue six Americans in Tehran during the U.S. hostage crisis in Iran in 1979.it is a perfect thriller from the beginning to the end, the use of everything and the editing also the screenplay and shots are one of the most important things to make a great thriller and also the right score. of all about the techniques, a film can't be good if the story were not interesting and Ben Affleck found one of the most interesting story in thriller movie history that based on an actual classified event.
- DirectorJohn Carroll LynchStarsHarry Dean StantonDavid LynchRon LivingstonLucky follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist and the quirky characters that inhabit his off the map desert town.A very beautiful film about non-conformist that comes to terms, not with the rest of the world, but with life and himself. the ending is a scary truth but i wish that when i reached 90 something, it could be as reassuring as the film has portrayed. and last but not least, i hope i could still walk like Harry Dean Stanton when i come to his age. A film not to be missed.
- DirectorKore-eda HirokazuStarsLily FrankySakura AndôKirin KikiOn the margins of Tokyo, a dysfunctional band of outsiders are united by loyalty, a penchant for petty theft and playful grifting. When the young son is arrested, secrets are exposed that upend their tenuous, below-the-radar existence.probably Koreeda's best since Maborosi and After Life. he is comparable to Mike Leigh when it comes to making a family drama, it's started slow but always building up to something and towards the ending you just got kicked in the balls (maybe not so much with Leigh, but sometimes yes), and he was probably possessed by Ozu's holy ghost because nobody told family drama better than Ozu. and i also wished that this film won best foreign language at oscar rather than Roma (a bit overrated imo).
- DirectorNuri Bilge CeylanStarsHaluk BilginerMelisa SözenDemet AkbagA hotel owner and landlord in a remote Turkish village deals with conflicts within his family and a tenant behind on his rent.it's a film with 3 characters living in the same roof that is a hotel in a place that is surrounded by rocks, hills, not much trees, and snow. not much hope for big life. however, these three people are some kind of regarded people in that place. what interesting with this film is how these three people managed to intelligently talking to each other playing as the righteous people to break the other, the three of them are people with lack and didn't know it or purposedly pretending not to acknowledge it, the sister probably doing it out of her disappointment of her past, the wife is probably because she wants to do something that made her alive just like her olden days before their marriage, the husband was doing it to cover his lack of emphaty. by the end of the film we know that there's nothing for them in that place, no matter what they do they only have three of them and the hotel covered with snow that blocking their ideas of life
- DirectorTom HooperStarsEddie RedmayneAlicia VikanderAmber HeardA fictitious love story loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.one of the most extraordinary and beautiful story ever filmed and it was based on a true story. with this film Eddie Redmayne proved us that he's going to stay in the industry and we want him to. the character development is one of the most crucial thing in this film and the writer nailed it hard to the wall!
