Creativity goes beyond canvas, photos, film, and media. It also catalyzes charity, philanthropy, and activism.
Award-winning actress, history-making supermodel, staunch philanthropist, conscientious activist, author, and loving mom Patricia Velásquez applies an eternal creative spirit to everything she does-whether it be starring in blockbusters a la The Curse of La Llorona or launching the Wayúu Tayá Foundation and participating on the UNESCO Board. Regardless, she makes major strides by drawing on instinct and deliberately paving her own path.
"I look at my career as a long staircase," she says. "I took every single step up. It was amazing to do so, because there has been longevity. I just put my head down, moved one step at a time, and never stopped."
The metaphor directly resembles a formative experience. Born in Venezuela but raised in France and Mexico, she relocated to Venezuela after a handful of years. In South America, her parents worked in education and moved the family into a crowded apartment building with no water and inoperable elevators. In order to supply water for the unit, Patricia often carried heavy buckets up fifteen flights of stairs.
In between studying engineering and intense dance training, she endeavored to help the family however possible. Scouted to model in Milan, the multi talented artist's ascent to the top of the fashion world hinged on a promise to those she loved. She recalls, "When they asked me to go to Italy, I said, 'If can send thirty dollars a month back to Venezuela, it's worth it, because that will pay for the whole building's water'."
Patricia's success represented a turning point in fashion as she drew industry attention to South America for the first time. She experienced a big break upon becoming "the first model Karl Lagerfeld ever photographed" and going on to walk in shows, star in editorial spreads, and front ads for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and Victoria's Secret, to name a few. Resonating around the globe, she appeared in Oprah and Ford Models' "Supermodel of the World" contest as well. Not to mention, she graced the covers of Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire, and many others. She artfully channeled her dance training during shoots.
She goes on, "I knew how to move the energy around the body without letting whoever looked at the photos later on know that I was actually dancing. It became a signature for me."
Simultaneously, she ignited an impressive acting career. Not only did she star in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, but she also appeared on The L Word, Arrested Development, CSI: Miami, Ugly Betty, and Rescue Me. In 2006, she made her stage debut by starring in School of the Americas-produced by Academy® Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman and written by José Rivera at New York's famed Public Theater. Patricia not only starred in Cenizas Eternas, but also served as executive producer. Her production experience continued as star and associate producer of Liz in September. In recognition of the latter, she garnered "Best Actress, Women's Feature" at the 2015 North Carolina Film Festival.
However, Patricia kicks off a bold new chapter in 2019 by starring in The Curse of La Llorona.
"The movie is really important to me," she goes on. "It's a timeless independent folk tale, and I was honored to be a part of it. I fell in love with the story and really got into the character."
Throughout her career, she capitalized on every opportunity to give back. In 2002, she founded the Wayúu Tayá Foundation. This non-profit preserves the culture of indigenous groups throughout Latin America by way of support and the drastic improvement of living conditions. UNESCO invited her to be a celebrity advocate, and the United Nations granted her the 2009 Women Together Award. Other honors include the 2010 Solidarity Award, the 2015 La Femme Film Festivals' Humanitarian Award, and the 2018 Visibility Award from The Human Rights Campaign. 2018 saw the Organization for American States (OAS) appoint her as Goodwill Ambassador for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the Americas in Washington, D.C. An outsider empathy continues to inform this myriad of charitable efforts.
"Going from France to Mexico to Venezuela and moving so much, I always felt like an outsider," she admits. "I could identify with indigenous communities because of this shared sensibility. One thing that kept bringing me back home and made me feel protected was knowing that I was indigenous. It keeps me grounded, so I do whatever I can to help."
As a published author, she penned a powerful and page-turning autobiography entitled, Straight Walk: A Supermodel's Journey to Finding her Truth. Released in 2015, it details her unbelievable career up that point..
In the end, Patricia's creativity always leaves a lasting impression.
"I've realized you can do the work you love, and the results can manifest on many different levels," she concludes. "You can take those things, turn them around, and create something environmentally friendly, sustainable, new, or beneficial to the world. Everything feeds off each other. It all comes from the same creative place."- Actress

Majandra Delfino rose to fame in her role as Maria DeLuca on Roswell. Born in Caracas, Venezuela to a Cuban mother and Venezuelan father, Majandra lived between Caracas and Miami before permanently moving to Los Angeles in her late teens.
At 4 years old Majandra's parents reached a fork in the road when they discovered she could read music from a beat-up Schubert book yet practiced multiplication drills with just a rudimentary understanding of math. Majandra's parents chose the scholastic side and enrolled her in an academically focused school. Still, between the ages of 4 to 13 Majandra danced with the Miami Ballet, with acceptance to the junior company by age 9, while studying classical piano throughout. Majandra's parents hoped this would be enough. Only, by age 11, Majandra and her best friend Alana Chirino (daughter of famed Cuban salsa singer Willy Chirino) snuck out of the house to be two of the four hundred girls auditioning for an all-girls pop group. They, along with Alana's sister Nicole and good friend Samantha Gibb (daughter of Bee Gees Maurice Gibb) ended up getting chosen - forming the music group 'China Dolls' a soul-styled pop group under the Sony label. After opening for the Bee Gees at a benefit concert and other local shows, the girls enjoyed small success, resulting in an audition for Columbia Pictures' The Baby-Sitters Club. Of the 800 plus cattle call of young girls, Majandra was among the few to get a callback. Fueled by this encouragement, Majandra decided to pursue an acting career in addition to her music responsibilities - again, doing so by sneaking out of the house. Dismayed by her daughter's latest "non-academic" aspiration, Majandra's parents gave her a 6-month deadline to succeed. Within 2 months she was cast as a lead in MGM's major motion picture Zeus & Roxanne - and within three months she landed the coveted role of Tony Dana's daughter on NBC straight to series multi-camera sitcom The Tony Danza Show. But it wasn't until Roswell's breakout success that Majandra rose to fan-magazine fame. Her role as the sarcastic Maria DeLuca has sparked many fans all around the world and its cult following continues to grow today. While on her second season of Roswell Majandra was cast as Vanessa in Steven Soderbergh's Traffic for which she won an Alma Award. Despite her successes as an actor, Majandra stayed true to her musical roots, releasing The Sicks and TARTE, two self-produced albums in which she wrote, performed, produced and engineered. Other notable credits include the Warner Bros feature Life As We Know It and the critically acclaimed drama Don't Come Knocking, directed by Wim Wenders. Starring in a string of comedies from State of Georgia where Majandra played the Laverne to Raven Simone's Shirley, then The Office spin-off The Farm, where Majandra played the third of the trio entrusted to run the family business, as Rainn Wilson and Thomas Middleditch's little sister, to CBS' multi-cam comedy Friends with Better Lives that found Majandra playing a pregnant wife and friend to Kevin Connolly, Brooklyn Decker and Zoe Lister-Jones, Delfino found herself back on the comedy side of things. Under a development deal for two self-scribed shows, Majandra Delfino continues to produce and create her own material, only this time for the screen and not just music. Delfino is married to actor David Walton with whom she has two small children, Cecilia Delphine and Louis Augustus. Majandra will next be seen in the directorial debut of Zoe Lister-Jones' self-scribed Sundance contender, Band-Aid. Rumors of a third album continue to abound but there has been no concrete word from Majandra or her representation yet.- Venezuelan-born Alicia Machado is the daughter of a Cuban father and Spanish mother who immigrated to Venezuela during the middle of the 1900s. Her father, a relative of former Cuban dictator Gerardo Machado, fled Cuba and found refuge in Venezuela after the fall of the Machado regime. Alicia began modeling at an early age before winning the title of Miss Venezuela. After winning the 1996 Miss Universe title (the fourth contestant from Venezuela to do so in the pageant's history), Alicia became a media star; however, winning the title came with a price. Alicia gained weight and was forced by pageant owner Donald Trump to either lose the weight quickly or lose the crown. Many womens' groups attacked Trump's ultimatum, calling it sexist and discriminatory, but within a few months Alicia lost the weight and was allowed to keep her crown. Returning to Venezuela after her reign, she transformed herself into a Spanish-language soap opera/serial star. She shoots the serials in her native Venezuela and remains a major media star throughout Latin America.

Marieh Delfino is a Venezuelan-American actress. From her first starring role in the cult Saturday morning hit, All About Us (2001), to her intense performance in the blockbuster, Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003). Gracing National Lampoon's Dorm Daze 2 (2006) as the sexy and comedic genius "Gerri Farber", while simultaneously appearing as Shawn Reaves ("Bob Crane Junior")'s shy girlfriend, in the critically-acclaimed Auto Focus (2002), starring 'William Defoe' and Greg Kinnear, Marieh Delfino constantly keeps us guessing. Her extraordinary upbringing could be the catalyst of her camaleónico ability to effortlessly and elegantly take on such a variety of roles. Marieh has always excelled in the arts, studying classical piano and modern dance since the age of 8, but mostly concentrating on intensive theater. However, contrary to the typical art kid cliché, Marieh esforzado in athletics and managed to make the honor roll every year at her academically cut-throat high school in Miami, Florida. So scholastically accomplished was she, that she was chosen out of thousands of high school kids as the one student representing her state as its "National Young Leader". Crowned a merit scholar, she was chosen to visit Congress in Washington D.C. to attend banquets and debates, essentially acting as a politician for a week. There, she met with congressmen and women as well as President Bill Clinton, where they engaged daily in educational discussions on various "current events".
Adding to her previous acting achievements, Marieh starred in David E. Kelley's Boston Public (2000), as the tough Queens-bred hard-ass turned straight-A student, "Denise DeMarcos". Her character was faced with the decision to get an abortion at the ripe young age of 17, making her particular story-arch a very compelling and haunting subject matter. Such a heart-wrenching topic was only made indisputable by the mesmerizing and frail evoking performance Marieh single-hábilmente delivered. Her uncanny and limitless ability to jump into characters has allowed Marieh to soar above preconceived notions, thus making her truly believable as an All-American girl-next-door as well as a troubled teen of any ethnic background. That, in itself, is a very rare trait seldom found in one person. Marieh will be seen in the starring role in Zerophilia (2005), a lighthearted comedy about a boy coming-of-age where, upon entering his sexual prime, he finds that he has turned into a woman. Simultaneously, she will also be seen as a trashy Cuban teenager, alongside sister Majandra Delfino, in the much anticipated Wim Wenders vehicle, Don't Come Knocking (2005), starring Sam Shepard, Tim Roth and Jessica Lange. Here, Marieh showcases her knack for dialects as well as her repeating camaleónico resolve.- Actress

Yeniffer Behrens was born in Caracas, Venezuela but her grandfather's position as a diplomat led to the family's move to Washington, D.C. when she was just 3 years old. Even as a small child, Yeniffer's dazzling smile and effervescent personality were easily apparent and she was inspired to become a performer by the age of six. At age nine, the family would move to Miami and naturally, the energetic Yeniffer grew to be a sparkling cheerleader and win the Miss Teen Miami Pageant. She also proved that she had brains and determination, as well as beauty, when she earned her Associate of Arts degree in theatre from Miami-Dade Community College. She continued her theatre training at the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts.
Yeniffer made her film debut in the Sylvester Stallone blockbuster The Specialist. She then landed numerous television roles in both Anglo and Hispanic markets, including Morelia and Te Amare en Silencio, the first novela filmed in Los Angeles. Yeniffer's star continued to rise when she landed a recurring role in La Familia Fernandez, produced by Univision's Sabado Gigante. In 1997, Yeniffer starred as the title character in the Independent film Angel Blue, opposite Sam Bottoms and Karen Black. Angel Blue was later released by Lifetime network under the title My Neighbor's Daughter and Yeniffer was singled out for excellent reviews including: "Pic definitely benefits from Behrens' poise and energy" - Variety 4/98.
She also had supporting roles in Exit, and Seven Sundays, directed by Cousin Cuisine director Jean-Charles Tachella. Yeniffer then co-starred in My Fathers' Love and Gabriela. Director Vincent Miller wrote, "Yeniffer Behrens projects the charisma and unique beauty only found in stars. She's seductive and vulnerable yet always real in her performance. Her talent and quality will take her far." Yeniffer also landed a role in the short film, Lili, from 20th Century Fox's Search Lab and recurring roles in Trials of Life and the PBS mini-series A Question of Citizenship.
Yeniffer took on a lighter acting load for a little while as she set out to "travel and see the world". Her journey took her around the globe to some exotic locales such as India, The Caribbean, Spain, Peru, England, Nepal, Italy, Venezuela, Paris, and more. While she would occasionally take on an acting role or two during this period, Yeniffer used this opportunity to enjoy the world as her classroom and she credits the trek for helping her to grow as a person and as an actor.
When Yeniffer returned, she hit the ground running by garnering a role in the controversial film, A Day Without A Mexican. While she landed an impressive line up of commercial spots, Yeniffer turned in strong performances in her guest starring roles in network shows Boston Legal, JAG, The Agency, the critically acclaimed Nip/Tuck and a steamy performance on ABC's legendary General Hospital.
Yeniffer works hard to polish her craft as an actor at several highly respected institutions such as Peter Murietta's improv group, Unitard, The Acting Class, with Silvana Gillardo, Margie Haber Studios, the Jeremiah Comey Studios and Sheila Kelley's The S Factor. She is also proud to have been part of several exclusive showcases such as the ABC Showcase, Urban Graffiti and Billy Bob Thornton's Not Just Another Showcase.
In 2005, Yeniffer helmed a fund-raiser event for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to raise awareness for breast cancer and made numerous red-carpet appearances including her role as presenter to Wilmer Valderrama at the 34th Annual Golden Eagle Awards. She can often be seen and heard in a strong slate of television and radio campaigns and she starred in the film shorts, 3some, and Late Bloomer.
Yeniffer finished up 2005 in strong fashion with a guest-starring role on television's #1 show, C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation. She also delivered fiercely dramatic roles in the films Virginia and Trapped In Perfection, both slated to open in 2006.- Actress
