THE BINGOMETER OF MOVIE RATINGS
1 - Piss poor, watch it if you want to waste some time I guess
2 - Poor, watch it if you're either a fan of the genre or bored
3 - Bad, watch it if you're in the mood for a couple laughs
4 - Kinda bad, watch it though, you might like it
5 - Average, either boring or boringly normal
6 - Good, you shouldn't be disappointed if you watch this
7 - Sweet, this film is definitely a good watch
8 - Pretty damn good, these films are among my favourites, but still have flaws
9 - Awesome, films with this rating are classics to me but still evade perfect due to minor flaws
10 - Perfecto, films with this rating are 100% recommended and are my favourites. Its EXTREMELY difficult to nitpick bad things about these films - DirectorJohn FawcettStarsEmily PerkinsKatharine IsabelleKris LemcheTwo death-obsessed sisters, outcasts in their suburban neighborhood, must deal with the tragic consequences when one of them is bitten by a deadly werewolf.Absolutely fantastic film, really draws you in to the story and theres action from the first few minutes. The synergy of Emily Perkins and Katherine Isabelle is also sensational. One of my personal favourites when it comes to the werewolf genre.
Pros:
*Fresh, interesting story
*Werewolf design
*New twist on transformation (gradually turning permanently)
Cons:
*The werewolves expressions are extremely wooden and noticeably mechanical. Not really a massive con, but I cant think of much else I can nitpick from this film. - DirectorDaniel AttiasStarsGary BuseyEverett McGillCorey HaimIn a small town, brutal killings start to plague the close knit community. Marty Coslaw, a paraplegic boy, is convinced the murders are the doings of a werewolf.A timeless film in my book, Stephen King weaves gold into the stories he creates and this is no exception. Nostalgic suburbs and a distinct 70's/80's-esque feel gives this film exceptional rewatch value. The werewolf isn't half bad either - It can come across as slightly goofy but on the most part theres a strong set of morals and story behind the wolf and its killings, not just a senseless slasher that the genre is so plagued by.
Pros:
*Based on a novella by the master
*Consistently interesting story, no really boring bits
*Acting is pretty good all-round, the gems being Corey Haim and Gary Busey
Cons:
*Notably bad werewolf design, very amateurish
*Not good if you're into slasher werewolf films, as the killings are methodical
Despite its flaws, this film remains a 10 for me. The nostalgia associated with it makes it immune to negative judgement. - DirectorScott MaginnisStarsErika FayGabriel GutierrezMichael CarreoIn the dusty little town of Furlough in Texas, an animal is slaughtering the cattle and the locals. When the teenager Tommy is killed, their friends Anna Furlough, her Mexican-American boyfriend Miguel Gonzalez, Jill Gillespie and Rosie finds that a Mexican werewolf Chupacabra is the killer and they plot a plan to kill the beast. So bad its honestly quite enjoyable to watch. The storymaking is dreadful and the characters are so shallow its almost like watching puppets, the films redeeming qualities are the classic B-Movie features, atrocious camera control, a creature that looks like it belongs on a Halloween edition of sesame street, and obviously if all else fails, get the dumb blonde to show her tits, that'll work.
Pros:
*Creature isn't THAT bad. When it gets screen time, that is.
Cons:
*Acting is terrible
*Story is terrible
*Cast are terrible
*Characters are god awful
*Cliché after cliché, with a hint of casual racism - DirectorJohn LandisStarsDavid NaughtonJenny AgutterJoe BelcherTwo American college students on a walking tour of Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists. My peeve with this film is that the story was ended far too early and abruptly, which is a shame. The werewolf however? Impeccable. Absolutely fantastic sounds, most of which gave me shivers down my spine, especially on the moors where they first encounter the grim and chilling howls.
The werewolf itself is also a masterpiece created by Rick Baker. It's face just instills fear and looks wild with its large yellow eyes and preposterously large jaw. Overall I believe that while storywise the film is short and very sweet, it still stands tall as one of the titans of the werewolf genre.
Pros:
*Spine-chilling werewolf noises
*Werewolf is superb
*Characters are built well
*Gore is extremely well done
Cons:
*Story feels as though it could have developed further
*Main protagonist is, in my opinion, unlikeable and quite annoying - DirectorAnthony WallerStarsTom Everett ScottJulie DelpyVince VielufAn American man unwittingly gets involved with French werewolves who have developed a serum allowing them to transform at will.Absolute train wreck of a film. I mean if I had to nitpick and choose a favourite moment from this boring, drawn out movie, it'd probably be the howl post transformation that sounds like Scooby-Doo being violated by some sort of pole-like object. Honestly, I don't think ive ever laughed harder at such a poor attempt to be scary. However, if you like Paris and B-Movie cheese, this MIGHT just maybe satisfy you.
Also - CGI werewolves terrible as a rule in my book regardless, it doesn't help that these look like some sort of shaved Neanderthal.
Pros:
*-
Cons:
*The film as a whole - DirectorAdrian Garcia BoglianoStarsNick DamiciEthan EmbryLance GuestWhen deadly beasts attack from the forest, it is up to a grizzled veteran to uncover what the residents of a secluded retirement community are hiding.I find myself confused with the mixed reactions to this film, with some you find high praise and with others they condemn it to burn in the firey pits of horror hell along with The Beast of Bray Road and AWIP. I myself found this film to be bloody enthralling, while I found myself noticing the glaring resemblance to Silver Bullet, with the disabled protagonist and suburb town with a dark secret, I still absolutely loved it. The acting by Nick Damici (Ambrose McKinley) was the concrete that held this film firm, delivering a convincing performance as a blind veteran. I think that's what won this film for me, the fact the protagonist is BLIND.
*****Spoilers*****
In the final fight scene when Ambrose puts his hearing aid in after throwing his bloodied shirt onto the garden in order to lure in the werewolves, it was chilling listening to the noises, the heartbeat of Ambrose, the scuffle of the werewolves approaching, then the really creepy scene of them all surrounding the shirt and lurking. Absolute gold.
Pros:
*Fantastic new take on the genre
*Characters are well-made and function to purpose
*Action in the first 10 minutes
*Rewatch value is great
Cons:
*Werewolves look somewhat goofy when the lower body is shown - too humanoid
*In honesty, the werewolves, while effective, are the only thing to complain about. In some scenes they're good in others they look like Fuzzbucket in his twilight years - DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsBenicio Del ToroAnthony HopkinsEmily BluntUpon his return to his ancestral homeland, an American man is bitten and subsequently cursed by a werewolf. Not much to say about this one. Honestly, the werewolf didn't look wolfish enough, it was CGI, the story was boring and the characters detestable at times, pretty much just a boring remake that's a little too tame for my liking. Tries too hard to be interesting and innovative
Pros:
*Visuals are good and its nice to see Anthony Hopkins
*Good gore
Cons:
*Cripplingly boring
*Too much CGI
*Characters are hard to follow - DirectorJohn HoughClive TurnerStarsRomy WalthallMichael T. WeissAntony HamiltonA successful author moves to a small town after suffering a mental breakdown and is tormented by demons and werewolves. This film was pretty damn good, if we're talking on a howling sequel level sort of good. I believe that this one feels more natural than the first, a little less outlandish? The characters are annoying and somewhat difficult to get along with at points too. I think its redeeming features are the 'One' werewolf costume at the end which looks pretty damn creepy, with a gaping maw and wild appearance. But you see, the fact that theres only really one proper look at the werewolf kind of makes it fall flat.
Note: German shepherds with glowing red eyes do NOT substitute for a pack of werewolves running, I was quite pissed off at that.
Pros:
*I feel its a better interpretation than the original
*Has that nice 1980's look and feel
*Transformation is bloody bizarre.
Cons:
*Werewolf sequences feel cheap
*Protagonist is the classic dizzy bitch - DirectorJoe DanteStarsDee WallacePatrick MacneeDennis DuganAfter a bizarre and near deadly encounter with a serial killer, a television newswoman is sent to a remote mountain resort whose residents may not be what they seem.On a starting note, I *beep* hate Dee Wallace's attitude and performance in this film, its purely aggravating at times. The film itself however is quite highly regarded, defying the tainted image of the howling series by presenting quite a decent plot, some funny moments and pretty damn good werewolves.
IMO, the transformation Is good but diseased by the 'I'm going to stand and watch you for 3 minutes then run away once you're a 7ft humanoid wolf' sort of protagonist, making it wholly unpleasant to watch as you swear in annoyance at Dee Wallace's dizzy blonde character. I'm not sure with this one, I'd recommend it sure, but for some reason it leaves you with the feeling that its half-baked or had been rushed.
Pros:
*One of the pioneers of the genre
*Werewolves are reaaally *beep* creepy looking
*Settings are quite good
Cons:
*Dee Wallace
*Some parts feel dragged
*Dee Wallace - DirectorEric RedStarsMariel HemingwayMichael ParéMason GambleAfter being bitten by a werewolf in the jungle, Ted looks for a cure. His lawyer sister, with a son and dog, invites him to park his camper by her house in the woods and live out of her fridge. This film isn't given enough credit in my opinion, a rather tantalizing plot, tense situations and 'okay' acting makes it rather enjoyable in my opinion. This movie has the same problem as the Howling though, with the core female character, played by actress Mariel Hemingway. I don't know, her performance just didn't click with me.
The werewolf in this one is good, definitely one of the better examples of animatronics dominance over CGI, however the transformation is afflicted with the latter. It has similar features to AWIL'S wolf, with large, wild yellow eyes and snapping jaws, but is bipedal and with shorter hair.
Pros:
*Freaky werewolf CGI free
*Stories quite enjoyable to watch
Cons:
*Mariel Hemingway
*Transformation unfortunately CGI-ridden, and its not even good CGI
*Acting is slightly below-par - DirectorBrett SullivanStarsEmily PerkinsBrendan FletcherKatharine IsabelleGinger's sister Brigitte, now a werewolf herself, must try to find a cure for her blood lust before the next full moon while hiding out in a rehab clinic from a relentless werewolf.I remember my first time watching this film, and the result was particularly nightmarish. This film uses terrific screenplay during the first opening scenes to really set the mood. The emphasis on cringe-worthy actions such as the cuts during shaving and the syringe use at the beginning is quite chilling in my opinion.
Onto the storyline, Bridget played by Emily Perkins is admitted after shooting up the monkshood from the previous film and the continuity between the two is consistent throughout. Essentially shes being chased by a male werewolf - a BIG male werewolf, so he can basically make puppies with her. Obviously that doesn't sound pleasurable nor acceptable, so Bridgette does her best to avoid him, with becomes nigh impossible to do once shes locked in a cell with no escape and no monkshood. Theres a lot of lies and innocence lost in this film - if you can get past the box office atom bomb it detonated and read into the storyline then its enjoyable and rewatchable.
Pros:
*Good setting
*Werewolf looks freakishly demonic
*I found the story itself to be interesting, though this seems to not be the case with a lot of critics
Cons:
*Ghost was annoying as *beep* - DirectorGrant HarveyStarsKatharine IsabelleEmily PerkinsNathaniel ArcandSet in 19th Century Canada, Brigette and her sister Ginger take refuge in a Traders' Fort which later becomes under siege by some savage werewolves. This film, while good, must be regarded with complete irrelevance to the previous Ginger Snaps films. Its as though they approached the crew, handed them a budget, and let them have a field day. Which produced a rather agreeable result, in my opinion. The story basically follows the bloodline of Ginger and Bridgette back to their ancestors during the time of the colonies.
They're stranded in the woods, werewolves stalk the forest at night, and so they manage to find themselves in a fort, but their very presence threatens to tear the society from within when a prophecised blood pact must be severed. Werewolves are *extremely* clunky at times but maintain a certain air of ferocity about them, possibly due to the consistently chilling groans and howls emitted by them. Another strange point to make is that at some point I swear a werewolves legs are backwards from the knee, sort of like a canine cloverfield.
Pros:
*Fun to watch, not scary, but fun
*Bridgette and Ginger still manage to bring the film together
Cons:
*Didn't feel like a film as such, more like a project - DirectorNeil MarshallStarsSean PertweeKevin McKiddEmma CleasbyA routine military exercise turns into a nightmare in the Scottish wilderness.Really good, possibly one of my favourite wolf representations, extremely creepy and ominous costumes which do an excellent job of portraying the impending doom of this otherwise light hearted and well-written film. Sean Pertwee is absolutely brilliant at the old British hard nut act, as exemplified in the film Wilderness also.
The plot is likeable and has a sort of classic zombie movie feeling to it as they hold up in an 'abandoned' house in the middle of nowhere on the Scottish moors, preparing themselves for the fight waiting outside. It follows the same sort of premise as AWIL, with buckets of gore and great werewolf design, but manages to also function as a fine comedy.
Pros:
*The aesthetics of the werewolves, absolutely fantastic
*The interpretation of the werewolves being intelligent and in a pack
*The line 'They aren't going home.. they are home'.
*Sean Pertwee
*The fact that the werewolves didn't make much noise. This gave them a really ominous appearance when they showed themselves
*Spoon
*Gore gore gore
Cons:
*In reality its hard to pick one, but if I had to it'd be the recycled idea of holding out in an 'abandoned' house in the middle of nowhere and preparing for the final confrontation etc etc. - DirectorAdam RobitelStarsJill LarsonAnne RamsayMichelle AngAn elderly woman battling Alzheimer's disease agrees to let a film crew document her condition, but what they discover is something far more sinister going on.Im a slithery snake
Pros:
*When the little dumbass is getting eaten, creepy but funny
Cons:
*Far too much buildup for what turns out to be a pretty flat ending - DirectorChristopher SmithStarsFranka PotenteSean HarrisVas BlackwoodTrapped in a London subway station, a woman who's being pursued by a potential attacker heads into the unknown labyrinth of tunnels beneath the city's streets.Bit different from what I'd usually watch (no werewolves), but I remembered this film from a while ago and decided to pick it up when I saw it selling cheap, wasn't disappointed really, I mean it starts extremely slowly and convinces you that the protagonist is an arrogant dizzy bitch, but manages well to set the scene.
The 'creep' is from what I gathered the result of some sort of genetic tampering and was just a child at the time of the subsequent experimentations. He just seems to take some sick pleasure in keeping people in captivity and tormenting them, even at one point roleplaying the surgeon from his childhood before driving a bone saw of questionable hygiene up an innocent vagrant girls lower region.
Pros:
*Maintains mystery and interest throughout the film
*'Creep' is pretty creepy :^)
*Good psychological horror sort of element to it
Cons:
*Shows a deep story but doesn't develop on it
*Annoying actresses - DirectorPhilippe MoraStarsBarry OttoMax FairchildImogen AnnesleyA female werewolf runs away from her family, and falls in love with a man who works in the movie business, while a sociologist who studies these creatures is looking for proof of their existence.*Pterodactyl screech*
Pros:
*Pretty damn fun to watch
*Hilarious werewolf design
*80's feel to it
*The *beep* director
Cons:
*Impossible to take seriously
*Werewolves are awful. Funny though.
*Actors are somewhat poorly picked. Thylo looks like humpty dumpty - DirectorNeal SundstromStarsPhil DavisVictoria CatlinElizabeth ShéA group of strangers visit an ancient Hungarian castle and bring along a werewolf.Horrendously cheesy to the point of feeling like an old game show like crystal maze, this film is like you either hate it or think its okay. Like *beep* marmite. The tragic dual suicide at the beginning made me want to laugh more than cry and the acting is like sub-par even for a howling sequel post-marsupials.
I mean, how can you call a werewolf film a werewolf film when I cant even remember it getting any screen time? It probably did but the fact I cant remember speaks volumes.
Pros:
*Difficult to pick, not much stands out.
Cons:
*Awful set
*Cliché story
*Terrible acting
*Lack of a werewolf in a werewolf film - DirectorAlexandre AjaStarsTed LevineKathleen QuinlanDan ByrdA traveling family falls victim to a group of mutated cannibals in a desert far away from civilization. One of the few films that make me feel genuinely uncomfortable watching. The situation was so damn *beep* avoidable every death just feels like it wasn't even nessecary and adds to the cock-up of a road trip that the movie started out as.
Pet peeve - why extinguish the dead man hanging on a tree who just got clubbed across the noggin while yo sisters getting her organs rearranged by a 6 foot something mutant and his creepy brother/boyfriend/cousin/father/uncle/2nd cousin lookin' ass guy, like she was screaming for ages dude.
PS. Doggy die
Pros:
*One of the only films to truly make my skin crawl
*Hideous mutants
*Really makes you feel in the moment
*Sweet acting
Cons:
*Some bits are annoying, such as when the dads burning and they cant hear the girl getting raped
*Main protagonist is a bit dull - DirectorCraig StrachanStarsSamantha ShieldsMartin CompstonPeter CapaldiIn Glasgow, the teenager single mother Kelly Ann is forced by Father Steven "Steve" Gillis to deliver her baby boy for adoption. Six weeks later, Father Steve organizes a hike in the countryside with the youths David, Louise, Mark and Kelly Ann and leaves them alone in the Scottish Highlands. He shows the meeting point in the map and tells that he would wait for them in an inn on the next day. Out of the blue, Kelly Ann's ex-boyfriend Lee joins the group invited by David. While hiking, the group stumbles with a weird shepherd and later Lee puts the man on the run. During the night, Kelly Ann overhears the cry of a baby and she goes with Lee to a derelict old castle where they find an abandoned baby in the middle of dead bodies. Soon the group is hunted down by a deadly wolf-like creature and has to decide whether they hide or fight to survive. As much as I hate Scotland and the barren wasteland of moors and smashed castles that reside within, this film was rather adequate. Acting's awful on pretty much all fronts actually.. I don't understand the buzz with the female leads performance, made me want to hate her more than sympathize with her. Plotline is effectively a rather naughty priest/holy man leaving his youth club in the middle of *beep* nowhere after he forcing a young girl (the lead) into aborting her baby.
The redeeming factor is watching these stupid *beep* get torn apart by these things. The mistakes they make and the sheer amount of laughable decisions actually makes it enjoyable.
Yadda yadda yadda later, manbearpigs gay Scottish cousin pigbearwolf finds these kids and decides to *beep* em around a bit.
The 'werewolf' design is god *beep* awful, but only because it was marketed as a werewolf. It literally looks like some sort of prehistoric mammal, which hell, it might well be, but its an ugly one, and does a bad job of adding a fear factor. Imagine porky pig on meth trying to eat you. Ending was preposterous and the CGI of the 'pigbears' strutting into the sunset made me want to cry a little.
Pros:
*Fun watching Scottish people act Scottish
*Bizarre 'Werewolf'
*Gore is pretty on point
Cons:
*Pigbears
*beep* acting
*Poor story
*The ending - DirectorWes CravenStarsChristina RicciJesse EisenbergPortia de RossiA werewolf loose in Los Angeles changes the lives of three young adults who, after being mauled by the beast, learn they must kill it in order to avoid becoming werewolves themselves.Utter modernized tripe to be honest, piss poor plot, boring werewolf, abundance of CGI which is easily differentiated from the actual film, felt more like a college students media coursework than a WES CRAVEN film.
And the werewolf flipping them off and talking at the end... *beep* off.
Pros:
**beep* all
Cons:
*The film is just a flop in all fairness. - CreatorHiro MashimaMasashi SogoStarsCherami LeighTodd HaberkornTia Lynn BallardLucy, an aspiring Celestial Wizard, becomes a friend and ally to powerful wizards Natsu, Gray, and Erza, who are part of the (in)famous wizard guild, Fairy Tail.Classic anime.
IM GOING TO NARRATE THE CURRENT SITUATION AND OVERANALYSE THE OUTCOME EVEN THOUGH DOING SO WILL MOST LIKELY WASTE TIME DURING THIS KEY MOMENT IN THIS EPISODE SUPER MEGA EPIC DEATH FINALE BATTLE AGAINST THIS IMMORTAL WIZARD THAT SOMEHOW MANAGES TO GET KILLED BY THE FIRE GUY AS USUAL!
Pros:
*Pretty fun to watch
*Nice soundtrack
Cons:
*Very 'anime'
*Retarded story pathing at times - DirectorAdam MacDonaldStarsJeff RoopMissy PeregrymNicholas CampbellAn urban couple goes camping in the woods and find themselves lost in the territory of a predatory black bear.I picked this from a recommended list on IMDB and wasn't disappointed at all to be honest. Very very good character building added to a quite tragic and depressing turnout makes this film, in my opinion, worth watching.
Pros:
*Gore
*Suspense
*Acting is okay
Cons:
*Not for you if you don't like buildup
*Some frustrating scenes - DirectorLewis TeagueStarsDee WallaceDaniel Hugh KellyDanny PintauroCujo, a friendly St. Bernard, contracts rabies and conducts a reign of terror on a small American town.Plagued by Dee Wallace's insufferable scream queen acting, this film falters a bit, especially after my recent viewing of it. I remember this film being pretty brilliant, but I watched it the other day and it was boring
Pros:
*That 80's feel
*Pretty intimidating dog (St.Bernard)
*Deaths are gruesome
Cons:
*Dee Wallace
*Kind of drawn out
*Can get very boring - DirectorBrett SimmonsStarsJoey Lauren AdamsElizabeth GilliesPaul IaconoWhen plans for a weekend vacation hit a dead end, a group of close-knit friends find themselves stranded in unfamiliar territory, pursued by a menacing, blood thirsty predator.Extremely slow slow slow start, really difficult to get past but once you do, its kinda worth the wait, maybe.
Pros:
*The creatures communicating is pretty eerie
*Deaths are gut-wrenching (Literally)
*No characters are completely immune to death (as is the case with most protagonists)
Cons:
*Oh so *beep* slow
*Predictable
*Drags
