- DirectorJoe DanteStarsZach GalliganPhoebe CatesHoyt AxtonA young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.My all time favorite movie. This movie rocks!
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKurt RussellWilford BrimleyKeith DavidA research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims.Maybe the most successful combination of suspense and gore ever put to film. The sfx still impress today and the actors are great.
- DirectorDario ArgentoStarsJessica HarperStefania CasiniFlavio BucciAn American newcomer to a prestigious German ballet academy comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders.Dreamlike and psychedelic Suspiria is a fairy tale of horror that combine art and blood in a beautiful way.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsBruce CampbellEllen SandweissRichard DeManincorFive friends travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release flesh-possessing demons.Fun, creative, atmospheric, gory and awesomely paced movie starring Bruce Campbell. In other words totally loveable.
- DirectorLucio FulciStarsCatriona MacCollPaolo MalcoAnia PieroniA New England home is terrorized by a series of murders, unbeknownst to the guests that a gruesome secret is hiding in the basement.Dark and claustrophobic atmosphere but also some super intense gore scenes and great actors such as Catriona MacColl and Paolo Malco. Probably my favorite Fulci flick.
- DirectorDario ArgentoStarsDavid HemmingsDaria NicolodiGabriele LaviaA jazz pianist and a wisecracking journalist are pulled into a complex web of mystery after the former witnesses the brutal murder of a psychic.Dario Argento gives us a movie with stellar acting by David Hemmings, an amazing soundtrack by Goblin and such an exciting plot that this could be considered nothing but one of the very best giallos of all time.
- DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsJames WoodsDebbie HarrySonja SmitsA programmer at a Toronto TV station that specializes in adult entertainment searches for the producers of a dangerous and bizarre broadcast.Surreal and thought provoking masterpiece by David Cronnenberg starring a young James Woods at his A game. The gore is as disgusting as it gets and the imagery of a vhs playing vagina embedded in the chest is both funny and cool.
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsDavid EmgeKen ForeeScott H. ReinigerDuring an escalating zombie epidemic, two Philadelphia SWAT team members, a traffic reporter and his TV executive girlfriend seek refuge in a secluded shopping mall. This is in my opinion the greatest zombie epic ever put to film. The dreamlike atmosphere of hiding safely in the mall with everything therein at your fingertips while the world is going under on the outside is pure genius.
- DirectorLucio FulciStarsChristopher GeorgeCatriona MacCollCarlo De MejoA reporter and a psychic race to close the Gates of Hell after the suicide of a clergyman caused them to open, allowing the dead to rise from their graves.A whole cast of recognizable faces, Fabio Frizzi´s stellar soundtrack, ultra gory sfx and an amazing atmosphere makes this Fulci flick a must see for every horror fan.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsTerry PotterPete O'HerneCraig SmithThe population of a small town disappears and is replaced by aliens that chase human flesh for their intergalactic fast-food chain. Before the humongous "The Lord of the Rings" franchise Peter Jackson already had his fans. This is not only the funniest gorefest put to film but also a testament of what you can achieve if you are creative enough and put in all of your heart and soul.
- DirectorRuggero DeodatoStarsRobert KermanFrancesca CiardiPerry PirkanenDuring a rescue mission into the Amazon rainforest, a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew. This movie is so wonderfully gruelling and intense that one could only applaud Ruggero Deodato for his achievement that is Cannibal Holocaust. Hands down the best of the cannibal flicks and a disturbing masterpiece even if it have lost some of it´s edge in later years.
- DirectorLamberto BavaStarsUrbano BarberiniNatasha HoveyKarl ZinnyA group of random people are invited to a screening of a mysterious movie, only to find themselves trapped in the theater with ravenous demons.Claustrophobic and insanely fast paced with some super cool gore and a rocking soundtrack. Is there anything wrong with this movie? Driving around with a dirt bike inside of a movie theater and cutting down demons with a katana have got to be one of the most metal things in movie history.
- DirectorJoseph ZitoStarsErich AndersonJudie AronsonPeter BartonAfter being announced dead and taken to a morgue, Jason Voorhees spontaneously revives, escapes from the hospital, and stalks a group of friends renting a house in the countryside near Crystal Lake.I have always been a Jason guy when it comes to slashers and part four is in my opinion the very best of all the Friday the 13th films. We have the gore, some nudity and an awesome cast including both Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover. Hey seriously, Who could ever forget Crispin Glovers epic dance scene?
- DirectorBrian YuznaStarsBilly WarlockConcetta D'AgneseBen SlackAn ordinary teenage boy discovers his family is part of a gruesome orgy cult for the social elite. As a guy who is a big fan of melting humans and slime this movie is really the way to "goo" if you get what i mean? Other honorable mentions would be Street Trash and From Beyond. They all kind of share this spot on my list. But the end of this movie is so freaking amazingly gooey that it have to be the winner. Also I like the idea of the rich people being aliens who feed of the poor. A bit too heavy handed and obvious maybe but an interesting concept none the less.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsRoddy PiperKeith DavidMeg FosterThey influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. They live. This is so amazing that words could not really give it justice. Roddy Piper gets sunglasses that reveals the fact that aliens are trying to invade us by mind controlling subliminal messages and consumerism. Much like Brian Yuzna´s Society this John Carpenter masterpiece handle the concept of rich people being aliens who leech on the poor. But this time we get less slime and more thought. We sleep, They live!
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsJohn AmplasLincoln MaazelChristine ForrestA young man, who believes himself to be a vampire, goes to live with his elderly and hostile cousin in a Pennsylvania small town where he tries to redeem his blood-craving urges.George A. Romeros fascinating take on the vampire mythos makes us think about life, depression, fantasy and if there really are any real magic.
This might be a slow burn but one that the thinking horror fan might find very interesting. - DirectorBob ClarkStarsOlivia HusseyKeir DulleaMargot KidderDuring their Christmas break, a group of sorority girls are stalked by a stranger. This movie is all about mood and atmosphere. In fact I can not think of many other movies that have this much atmosphere. There is a cozy holiday feeling in this movie but that is soon replaced by some of the most frightening scenes ever put on film. The telephone calls are nothing short of amazing. Where is the baby Billy!?
- DirectorJesús FrancoStarsSoledad MirandaDennis PricePaul MullerAn erotic horror tale about a vixen vampiress seducing and killing women to appease her insatiable thirst for female blood.Psychedelic and erotic fever dream with the mesmerizing Soledad Miranda as a lust filled vampire. Jess Franco´s best film and one that brings a certain sense of class to the otherwise sleazy genre of erotic horror. Style and atmosphere is amazing.
- DirectorTony MaylamStarsBrian MatthewsLeah AyresBrian BackerA former summer camp caretaker, horribly burned from a prank gone wrong, lurks around an upstate New York summer camp bent on killing the teenagers responsible for his disfigurement. If I have to choose one Friday the 13th rip-off to watch it would definitely be The Burning. Gore effects by Tom Savini and Jason Alexander as one of the young kids. This is well worth its reputation as one of the best slashers ever made and to be honest it is better than some of the Friday the 13th films.
- DirectorMichele SoaviStarsRupert EverettFrançois Hadji-LazaroAnna FalchiA cemetery man must kill the dead a second time when they become zombies. This movie is both romantic, erotic, sensual, poetic, dreamlike and super violent. Soavi´s Dellamorte Dellamore is a romantic arthouse movie just as much as it is a cool zombie movie with action elements. This movie is one of the best horror flicks of the 90s and one that every horror fan should definitely see.
