Ishmael takes this as a threat upon Asa's life, and later, when Asa is found dead, Ishmael plans to hang Paul. But Paul, Ellen and Eagle Feather, a friendly plains Indian, are captured by the Sioux. Ishmael, Abiram, and the remaining sons rescue them and Eagle Feather provides information that clears Paul of Asa's murder; Ishmael is now faced with hanging a relative, but which one?

Could have been a ten if there had been a leprechaun or two or Pat O'Brien in the cast.

Carlyon, catching up with Andrews, recognizes this as an act of courage, and does not take revenge on him. Carlyon is eventually caught, but despite the police torture, Andrews does not identify him, and he goes free, while his guardian faces the gallows.

Meanwhile, back in town, Henry, not invited to his wife's Pioneer Committee meeting, planning the town's centennial celebration, talks his friend the Mayor into the two of them doing an re-enactment of the burning of the steamboat "Prairie Queen" at the celebration. Nothing good can come of this.
