- DirectorRoman PolanskiStarsJack MacGowranRoman PolanskiAlfie BassA noted professor and his dim-witted apprentice fall prey to their inquiring vampires, while on the trail of the ominous damsel in distress.Polanski's farce is by far my favorite vampire film of all-time. It's also one of my all-time favorite comedies. The film is usually titled as 'The Fearless Vampire Killers' but IMDb insists on listing films by original titles only, even though many of these title names lasted only a very short time. Personally I've never even seen this film titled Dance of the Vampires anywhere except here on IMDb. I know a film student who swears that this is actually his favorite film of all films. Personally I liked this film the first time I saw it, but it really won me over upon second viewing. At this point I just feel it's brilliant. 9/10
- DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsHarvey KeitelGeorge ClooneyJuliette LewisTwo criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires, with chaotic results.Rodriguez and Tarantino combine with some great actors in the second funnest Vampire film on the planet. 8/10
- DirectorJean RollinStarsFranca MaïBrigitte LahaieJean-Marie LemaireA runaway criminal breaks into an eerie chateau, taking its two frightened chambermaids hostage. As night falls, a group of mysterious aristocratic women arrive and the criminal begins to realize the women are hiding a sinister secret.A hauntingly surreal dreamlike film by French writer/director Jean Rollin, known mostly for vampire erotic horror. This is not a traditional vampire film. It is however in my view a somewhat brilliant, yet very low budget film. 8/10
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsGary OldmanWinona RyderAnthony HopkinsThe centuries old vampire Count Dracula comes to England to seduce his barrister Jonathan Harker's fiancée Mina Murray and inflict havoc in the foreign land.Gary Oldman pulls off the Count better than any before or since in my view. Tom Waits is also brilliant. The film looks great and does truly have its great moments. Not up there with Coppola's best work, but still a good film nonetheless. 7.5/10
- DirectorRoy Ward BakerStarsIngrid PittPippa SteelMadeline SmithSeductive vampire Carmilla Karnstein and her family target the beautiful and the rich in a remote area of late eighteenth-century Gemany.A well made, and very engaging version of Carmilla. 7.5/10
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppMichelle PfeifferEva GreenAn imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection. Not sure why so many people did not enjoy this. I found it to be a really fun dark comedy. Tim Burton's most underrated film? 7.5/10
- DirectorE. Elias MerhigeStarsJohn MalkovichWillem DafoeUdo KierThe filming of Nosferatu (1922) is hampered by the fact that its star Max Schreck is taking the role of a vampire far more seriously than seems humanly possible.Artsy and perhaps a little dry for some, but definitely a good film in my view. 7/10
- DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsJason PatricCorey HaimDianne WiestAfter moving to a new town, two brothers discover that the area is a haven for vampires.Sure, it's pretty cheesy in some ways, but Schumacher also creates some moments of dark and magical vampire beauty here; Mainly thanks to a good eye, some great music, and an amazing performance by Keifer Sutherland. In my view, his David is easily one of the all time top 10 greatest movie vampires. Dianne Wiest is her usual brilliant self and also helps lend some grounding to the film. 7/10
- DirectorNeil JordanStarsBrad PittTom CruiseAntonio BanderasA vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger.Kirsten Dunst's Claudia I'd say should also go down as one of the top 10 all time movie vampires. She nearly steals the entire film. Cruise is terribly miscast while Slater and Pitt are solid. I'm not a Cruise hater either, I often like him but he was simply awkward it seemed and not quite sick enough. Not quite as evil as Lestat was meant to be and probably should have been in my view. They should have stuck to the book character closer in that regard and I'm not sure if that is even Cruise's fault really or not. This is however mostly a good film. 7/10
- DirectorJim MickleStarsConnor PaoloNick DamiciKelly McGillisIn a world of vampires, an expert vampire hunter and his young protégé travel toward sanctuary. What makes this film better than most vampire films is the realistic feel it sustains throughout. The entire atmosphere is well created here, tension, desperation and realism. Something you rarely find in a vampire film. 7/10
- DirectorStephen NorringtonStarsWesley SnipesStephen DorffKris KristoffersonA half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.Blade is a solid and fun vampire action flick. 7/10
- StarsDavid SoulJames MasonLance KerwinA novelist and a young horror fan attempt to save a small New England town which has been invaded by vampires.I guess it's only right that Tobe Hooper & Mr.King have their rightful place on this list as well. 7/10
- DirectorKathryn BigelowStarsAdrian PasdarJenny WrightLance HenriksenA small-town farmer's son reluctantly joins a traveling group of vampires after he is bitten by a beautiful drifter.I'm not huge on the final outcome of the film, however the filmmaking execution here is very good. Overall, a pretty good story as well.
