Cinema Shrine (Movie Collection)
These are all my children (some I love more than others).
Don't really know why IMDB doesn't ignore the "A" "An" and "The" words in the titles but whatever. Was gonna say that, if you're gonna look at it, I'd suggest the AZ alphabetical order option just because. I don't think I can make the list appear that way for everyone. I don't know. I'm bad at technology and stuff.
My dream is to be on "Hoarders" one day - but hoarding movies and stuff not, like, trash and fecal matter.
Also, not to sound too grandiose or anything here, but I love physical media and the idea of people being so reliant on intangible concepts and digital collections and whatnot is scary as hell to me. I prefer having a tangible copy to prove that it exists and that it's mine in the world.
May comment on certain ones but, either way, who cares
Semi-Disclaimer: In my defense on owning some/most of these crappy, low-budget b/z grade horror movies I didn't anticipate on acquiring them. My father is one of those people who goes to a bargain bin and picks out those $5 horror sets - despite my warnings that, often times, they're in a bargain bin with 14 other films for a reason. When Blockbuster and Movie Gallery went out of business, it was just this overflow of crappy horror movies ("Stupid Teenagers Must Die" anyone?). He moved and left me with all these type of movies. I've yet to weed them out and I don't really know what to do with them because I don't wanna be one of those people who pawns them off at a Buy-Sell-Trade place.

- DirectorLars von TrierStarsBryce Dallas HowardIsaach De BankoléDanny GloverA story of slavery, set in the southern U.S. in the 1930s.Really wish Lars von Trier would have gotten around to finishing this trilogy for it looks doubtful he ever will. While not as amazing as Dogville, I still feel like the story (as a whole) is amazing.
- DirectorGreta GerwigJoe SwanbergStarsGreta GerwigJoe SwanbergJay DuplassA man and woman must face the tension that builds between them during a long-distance relationship.Only seen a few Joe Swanberg films but, of the ones I've seen, I've enjoyed this the most. I think I might have a soft spot for the "mumblecore" film movement of the mid 2000's because I really enjoyed "Baghead" and "The Puffy Chair" by the Duplass Brothers too and, I don't know, I like the grainy look and these short, simple glimpses into people's lives.
- DirectorLewis TeagueStarsDee WallaceDaniel Hugh KellyDanny PintauroCujo, a friendly St. Bernard, contracts rabies and conducts a reign of terror on a small American town.I wish this was a better movie. It's one of those movies where I'm so bored for the first hour and I'm just waiting for them to be trapped in the car because, those scenes, are some of the most intense but everything else is boring and lame.
- DirectorDaniel MyrickEduardo SánchezStarsHeather DonahueMichael C. WilliamsJoshua LeonardThree film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.I love The Blair Witch Project. Always have. Always will. I can kinda sorta not really see why people don't like it, but I love it. It's creepy to me because the fear of being lost is one that I have and struggle with every time I walk into a Wal-Mart so, I like to believe, I can really relate to the character's plight.
I'd own Blair Witch 2 just because, but I didn't like it at all. Guess the same applies to "Blair Witch." - DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsHarvey KeitelTim RothMichael MadsenWhen a simple jewelry heist goes horribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant.Own all Tarantino's except Django Unchained and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - hopefully can own soon.
This was one of my top 10 favorite movies circa a budding testosterone infused 7th grade time period. I'd probably be a Mr. Brown, though I'd love to be a Mr. Blonde - DirectorMiguel ArtetaStarsMike WhiteChris WeitzLupe OntiverosAn oddly naive man-child stalks his childhood best friend and tries to reconnect with their past.Love dark comedies and Mike White (lead actor/ screenwriter) is amazing at it. He's also the voice of God. Seriously, his HBO short-lived series Enlightened will change your life. Glad he's gotten a moment in the sun recently with The White Lotus
- DirectorJohn WatersStarsMelanie GriffithStephen DorffAlicia WittAn insane independent film director and his renegade group of teenage filmmakers kidnap an A-list Hollywood actress and force her to star in their underground film.Kinda underrated - one of John Waters' better films IMO.
I can't tell you how hard I laughed at Alicia Witt's character telling how her entire family raped her under the Christmas tree. "Grandma yelled 'Yeah! f_ck her!" - DirectorLars von TrierStarsEmily WatsonStellan SkarsgårdKatrin CartlidgeOilman Jan is paralyzed in an accident. His wife, who prayed for his return, feels guilty; even more, when Jan urges her to have sex with another.Paid a pretty penny for the Out of Print Artisan release some time ago but, nevertheless, I welcomed the beautiful (much needed) Criterion release. Hope to see The Idiots and Dancer in the Dark come soon.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsEllen BurstynJared LetoJennifer ConnellyThe drug-induced utopias of four Coney Island people are shattered when their addictions run deep..Great Movie. Have no desire to ever watch it again.
- DirectorGreg PritikinStarsAdrien BrodyMilla JovovichIlleana DouglasAn ex-office worker becomes a ventriloquist, leading to a date with his unemployment counselor; but his quirky family and a gauche female friend may thwart his new career and love life.Remember this movie being very funny. Been a good while since I've seen it. I'm not a big Milla Jovovich fan, but she is hilarious in this film.
- DirectorAmy Holden JonesStarsAlly SheedyBeverly D'AngeloMichael OntkeanA spoiled rich girl is visited by her fairy godmother and turned into a maid.Bought this at Movie Stop for a whopping $3 - mostly because I knew it was Out of Print and sold for more than $3 on Amazon
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsSean GulletteMark MargolisBen ShenkmanA paranoid mathematician searches for a key number that will unlock the universal patterns found in nature.Need to buy The Fountain and Noah. I don't remember if I included The Wrestler in this list. I don't think I did. I kinda sorta don't really own it, though. I need it. I haven't seen Noah and mother! was amazing, I thought.
- DirectorDrew GoddardStarsKristen ConnollyChris HemsworthAnna HutchisonFive college friends head out to a remote cabin for a getaway, but things don't go as planned when they start getting killed. They soon discover that there is more to the cabin than it seems.Pretty decent horror film but Scream will always be the reigning self-aware and genre deconstructing horror film. Plus, in some ways this is a little too Buffy Season 4 and 7 microwaved over.
- DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsMichael DouglasSharon StoneGeorge DzundzaA violent police detective investigates a brutal murder that might involve a manipulative and seductive novelist.Have YOU ever f_cked on cocaine??
Remember liking the film well enough but, aside from a few key scenes (you know the one), I don't remember much about the actual film. - DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMartin SheenMarlon BrandoRobert DuvallA U.S. Army officer serving in Vietnam is tasked with assassinating a renegade Special Forces Colonel who sees himself as a god.I think I saw the Redux version. Either way, a little too long for my liking. Martin Sheen isn't my favorite either
- DirectorDoug AtchisonStarsAngela BassettLaurence FishburneKeke PalmerAkeelah, a young gifted girl, comes from a dysfunctional family and is on the verge of quitting school. She discovers that she has a high aptitude for spellings and enters a spelling bee contest."Ain't you got no job?"
Love this movie; always puts me in a good mood. When I bought this movie at Wal-Mart, the cashier lady was like, "Oh, this is one everyone should have in their collection!" - DirectorGeorge BessudoStarsTara GerardVanessa ViolaKelsey WedeenThree sisters and a group of their friends take a trip to the home of the recently deceased grandfather -- who died a particularly grisly death -- to learn more about the promise of an inheritance, only to encounter a family of psychos who have taken up residence in the old man's cabin.I remember nothing about this film other than there being, like, this crazy grandma or something. Got this when I was going through a horror DVD label period (i.e. Afterdark Horrorfest, Ghosthouse Underground, Dimension Extreme, etc.)
- DirectorXavier GensStarsKarina TestaAurélien WiikPatrick LigardesA gang of young thieves flee Paris during the violent aftermath of a political election, only to hole up at an Inn run by neo-Nazis.Went through a French Extreme phase - really enjoyed this one. Need to watch it again. I love the whole back-woods country vibe and overt violence.
- DirectorLouie PsihoyosStarsRichard O'BarryLouie PsihoyosHardy JonesUsing state-of-the-art equipment, a group of activists, led by renowned dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry, infiltrate a cove near Taijii, Japan to expose both a shocking instance of animal abuse and a serious threat to human health.Good documentary. Never wanna see it again. Dolphins are cool though
- DirectorJason FriedbergAaron SeltzerStarsCarmen ElectraVanessa LacheyNicole ParkerOver the course of one evening, an unsuspecting group of twenty-somethings find themselves bombarded by a series of natural disasters and catastrophic events.Yeah, it's a bad movie but I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh at some parts - namely the Juno spoof which was kinda spot-on, same with the Enchanted spoof. That's it though. And even then they kinda overstay what little welcome they maybe had or didn't have to begin with. Like, it's bad - make no mistake - but, I don't know, sometimes you just kinda crave something stupid you feel superior over and this is that
- DirectorGregg ArakiStarsJames DuvalRose McGowanJohnathon SchaechJordan White and Amy Blue, two troubled teens, pick up an adolescent drifter, Xavier Red. Together, the threesome embark on a sex-and-violence-filled journey through an America of psychos and quickie marts.Bought this one mostly because it goes well with my 90s indie scene films and, also, because I had just watched Araki's Mysterious Skin and Smiley Face. Also because Rose McGowan.
- DirectorTom ShanklandStarsEva BirthistleStephen Campbell MooreJeremy SheffieldA relaxing Christmas vacation turns into a terrifying fight for survival as the children begin to turn on their parents.Don't remember much about the film but, nevertheless, it was amusing because killer children and whatnot.
- DirectorGabriele AlbanesiStarsDaniela VirgilioGeno DianaSanta De SantisAn Italian gorefest about a young couple being held captive by a sadistic backwoods family.I actually remember somewhat enjoying this film but, having gone back and seen clips of it recently, I probably wouldn't have that same reaction. I just remember it being kinda disturbing, which was cool.
- DirectorOle BornedalStarsPaprika SteenUlrich ThomsenJonas WandschneiderA group of sixth-graders is convinced their new substitute teacher is actually a menacing alien.Haven't seen this in a while, but it's time I rewatch it because I remember it being fun and pulled off really well. Like it kinda sorta being a kid's horror movie but not kid-friendly.
- DirectorDavid SladeStarsPatrick WilsonElliot PageSandra OhHayley's a smart, charming teenage girl. Jeff's a handsome, smooth fashion photographer. An Internet chat, a coffee shop meet-up, an impromptu fashion shoot back at Jeff's place. Jeff thinks it's his lucky night. He's in for a surprise. One of My All Time Favorite Movies. By far, Page's best performance and definitely one of the best performances of that decade IMO
