ScottSterling HaydenAn unhinged American general orders a bombing attack on the Soviet Union, triggering a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically tries to stop. One of the greatest films ever made. Most films aren't nearly this creative, nor even close to this daring or intelligent, no matter the era. There's such a unique mixture of elements here as to make the film seem endlessly original and fresh. It's an extraordinary piece of art. 10/10
- DirectorBryan ForbesStarsKim StanleyRichard AttenboroughMargaret LaceyA medium and her husband stage a kidnapping in order for her to pretend to solve the crime and achieve fame.Count me as a fan. 8/10
- DirectorLuis BuñuelStarsJeanne MoreauGeorges GéretMichel PiccoliA sophisticated and self-assured woman from Paris joins a middle-class rural estate as a maid and causes quite a stir among the variously uptight, perverse and violent inhabitants.Buñuel is among my all time favorite filmmakers, and this is a very strong film. It is however in my view, actually among his lesser films overall. Buñuel's lesser works however are still FAR better than the vast majority of filmmakers best works. So, as much as it is a lesser Buñuel, it's still far greater than the average, and even much better than most good films. 8/10
- DirectorMario BavaStarsCameron MitchellEva BartokThomas ReinerA masked, shadowy killer brutally murders the models of a scandalous fashion house in Rome.A pioneering work in the horror genre, mainly with its style and rich visuals. 8/10
- DirectorRobert StevensonStarsJulie AndrewsDick Van DykeDavid TomlinsonIn turn of the century London, a magical nanny employs music and adventure to help two neglected children become closer to their father. This was actually the first film I ever saw in the theatre. Well, maybe it wasn't, but it's definitely the first one I can remember seeing. 7.5/10
- DirectorSamuel FullerStarsConstance TowersAnthony EisleyMichael DanteA former prostitute relocates to a buttoned-down suburb, determined to fit in with mainstream society. But perverse secrets simmer beneath the wholesome surface. There are a lot of great things in this film, however I also feel it misses badly in some areas at times. Nonetheless, the film is impressive and interesting for the most part. 7/10
- DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodGian Maria VolontèMarianne KochA wandering gunfighter plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge.Call me names if you must, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the first two films of this trilogy. To me, only the 3rd film is really all that special. 6.5/10
