Overhearing the plot, Anne goes to warn Shannon; but he leaves when he hears her cajoling Morse, who has become jealous of his attentions. Anne discovers the men wiring the explosives, but in severing the wire leading to the dam she is buried beneath rubble from the explosion; following a fight, Shannon settles accounts with Burkthaler and Morse, and Anne is rescued by his men.

Also aboard are Herbert Boone, a shell-shocked drug addict, and his nagging wife, Adele; Kelim Pasha, an Egyptian prince who attracts Adele Boone's affections; and Mahmud, an Egyptian mystic who insists that Celia Thaxter and Herbert Boone are the reincarnations of an ancient Egyptian queen and a priest who sacrificed themselves for their love. He secretly believes himself to be the reincarnation of the high priest who betrayed the queen. Upon their arrival in Cairo, the group sets out across the desert in search of Queen Neco Tokris's tomb, which contains her legendary treasure. Kelim Pasha discloses his evil designs on Celia and the treasure, and brings the caravan under his power. Reginald Stanhope, confessing that he is merely an agent of Kelim Pasha, leaves for help, and dies. A rehabilitated Herbert Boone swears his love for Celia and vows to protect her. When they arrive at Queen Neco Tokris's tomb, Mahmud reveals that there is no treasure, but rather Kelim Pasha's atonement for betraying the queen. Pasha stumbles and falls into a deep pit, and Adele Boone is dragged to her death when she tries to save him, leaving Herbert Boone and Celia Thaxter free to pursue their happiness.

Eventually, she falls in love with young Sanford, relents when he is falsely accused of murder, and forgives his mother.

Mrs. Crafton then makes a scene, her husband enters, she accuses DeCourcey of seeking to attack her. DeCourcey, who has remained smoking, shows the ashes remaining on his cigar, to the hotel detective, as evidence that there has been no struggle. The detective believes his accusation of blackmail against the pair and they are arrested. After reading the story the young wife leaves a note saying she has gone back to her home in the country. The intended victim arrives and turns out to be a detective. After reading the note, he takes the penitent young husband to the railroad station and sends him back to his wife.

When Lucky comes looking for Belle, he is surprised to discover Ruth in her place, but realizes he loves her. Soon afterward, Ruth's husband, Wade Harkin, arrives in town to see Belle's show, and is surprised to find Ruth instead. Lucky and Wade fight in the street for her, but during the fisticuffs, an anonymous bystander shoots and kills Wade. Badly beaten, Lucky staggers into Ruth's open arms.
