- DirectorAkira KurosawaStarsToshirô MifuneTakashi ShimuraKeiko TsushimaFarmers from a village exploited by bandits hire a veteran samurai for protection, who gathers six other samurai to join him.A totally depressing tome, set in teh most somber black and white, where they guard their rice and barley like it was Fort Knows.
- DirectorR. John HughStarsLin McCarthyStephen CourtleighBerry Kroeger5 Confederate soldiers desert, make their way through the Everglades and try to make it to Cuba.Ok, they go through this adruous journey to the sea, and how is the lone survivor supposed to get to Cuba? That's what I'd like to know. Dude still had another 100 miles to swim.
- DirectorArthur RipleyStarsRobert CummingsMichèle MorganSteve CochranChuck Scott gets a job as chauffeur to tough guy Eddie Roman; but Chuck's involvement with Eddie's fearful wife becomes a nightmare.Peter Lorre, who I understand dominated the horror scene, played the perfect prick role, complete with cigarette constantly dangling. It was rather satisfying seeing him meet his end at the end of the film.
- DirectorArthur LubinStarsBrian DonlevyElla RainesCharles CoburnA unfaithful wife plots with her lover to kill her husband, but the lover is accidentally killed instead. The husband stays in hiding and lets his wife be charged with conspiracy.
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsTom HanksMariana TreviñoRachel KellerOtto is a grump who's given up on life following the loss of his wife and wants to end it all. When a young family moves in nearby, he meets his match in quick-witted Marisol, leading to a friendship that will turn his world around.Tom Hanks sure has a way of making pretty much every movie he's in be a very watchable film. it's also interesting to see him playing a cranky grumpy older man. this is far from his usual role of the genial hero type. it also makes the point of life is for the living, and not to reminisce too much about who have gone before. they are not wanting us to do that.
- DirectorFrances O'ConnorStarsEmma MackeyOliver Jackson-CohenFionn Whitehead"Emily" imagines the transformative, exhilarating, and uplifting journey to womanhood of a rebel and a misfit, one of the world's most famous, enigmatic, and provocative writers, who died, too soon, at age 30.Fascinating take on history, and prompted me to read Wuthering Heights.
- DirectorJoseph L. MankiewiczStarsCary GrantJeanne CrainFinlay CurrieDr. Noah Praetorius falls in love with Deborah, a student who discovers that she is pregnant by her old boyfriend.Cary Grant has a way of taking over nearly every movie he Stars in. that is the case with this movie as well. he does show himself not to be a womanizer but to be chasing one woman from the beginning of the movie.
the movie was billed as doctors who are abnormally persecuted, but it seemed more to me like he was just being persecuted for harboring a fugitive. when the story about The Fugitive comes out at the end of the movie, everyone is Forgiven. Cary Grant and his new wife walk off into the sunset - DirectorLeo McCareyStarsIrene DunneCary GrantRalph BellamyA married couple file an amicable divorce, but find it harder to let go of each other than they initially thought.Cary Grant makes no bones about chasing after a potential suitor of his wife right at the beginning of the movie.
Great line from Cary: Well, if Oklahoma City ever gets boring, you can just to to Tulsa for the weekend (he and his bickering wife live in NYC).
The irony of the scene where the two motorcycle cops pull over Grant for excessive noise, and end up riding them back to their lodging on the handlebars wasn't lost on me. - DirectorAlfred ZeislerStarsCary GrantMary BrianPeter GawthorneA bored millionaire wagers his doctor that he can support himself at a working class job for year without touching his inheritance.Cary Grant once again wins the girl as he proves to the secratary at his first job (selling stoves), that he is more than just a stuffed shirt with money. He also "loses" a 50000 bet to the doctor that started this whole little vignette.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsAnny OndraJohn LongdenSara AllgoodAfter killing a man in self-defense, a young woman is blackmailed by a witness to the killing.A clown, a gf that jilts her bf for a would be killer, and the longest Hitchcock cameo in our memory, made this a movie rife for riffing for me and Sid.
- DirectorJordan HillStarsLucy ErnestLisa PineGuy WaltersSecluded deep in the Bavarian Alps, Hitler, his family, and closest allies hid away- issuing orders for armies across Europe while they relaxed, dined, and enjoyed an otherworldly peace.Seems kind of macabre to watch, but the footage is quite rare, and shows a side of Hitler not often seen screaming from the pulpit. Still can't understand how a seemingly innocent girl like Eva Braun could have gotten hooked up with this monster. Hitler hid out at the Bavarian retreat and was rarely seen in public after an assassination attempt nearly killed him but for the strength of an oak desk.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsNova PilbeamDerrick De MarneyPercy MarmontA man on the run from a murder charge enlists the help of a beautiful stranger who must put herself at risk for his cause. The only movie in our recent stream of c0-watching that was seen by both of us in the same room, that being a motel room outside of Washington DC.
- DirectorHerbert James WintersternStarsSkeet UlrichAnne HecheDaniel DiemerA teenage boy runs away to follow in the footsteps of his father, legendary storm chaser Bill Brody. How did Alex Baldwin get in this low budge film? I wonder if there are really these “chasers” that follow storms around like Chiefs fans.
- DirectorNic YoungBen HolgateStarsJames BulginThe Nazi evolution from murderous anti-semitism into organised death camps, as documented in this sober piece of historical excavation from Holocaust specialist James Bulgin, is truly shocking in its specificity. An ad-hoc interpretation of party doctrine became an agreed policy of mass shootings on the Eastern Front, before logistical frustrations and concern for the mental health of the executioners prompted a shift to more efficient methods. Almost as distressing as the barbarism itself was the necessary collaboration and complicity of many thousands of locals across Latvia and Lithuania. Harrowing viewing, but it is surely only in better understanding the detail behind the Nazis' mass murders that we can better understand how to ensure it never happens again. The transition between shooting the Jews and the gas chambers was chronicled in this film. The Nazi higher-ups quickly discovered that having mass shootings did not kill people quickly and efficiently enough. Also, this movie sent it around, trying to find some of the gravesites that were hastily put together in
Lithuania - DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.Diane Lane was one sexy mama. I remember General Zod from the original Christopher
Reeves reboot.
No Jimmy Olsen.
What General Zod did on the face of it seems somewhat noble, he was only trying to savehis own people. He also didn’t want to go through the acclimation that Clark did growing up in Kansas - DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsIsabel JeansFranklin DyallEric Bransby WilliamsA recently divorced woman hides her scandalous past from her new husband and his family.
- DirectorChris DowlingStarsKristoffer PolahaDavid DeSanctisMcKaley MillerA baseball player whose professional career was cut short due to his personal problems is suddenly awakened and invigorated by a young-man with Down syndrome who works at the local grocery store.I kept saying to myself that the actress playing a minor role married to the friend of the main character, looks damn good. Going to find out later it was the same actress Danica McKellar, who played the girlfriend on The Wonder Years. I have to admit this is another movie that made me cry. Especially when I found out the main character and then let go for the Detroit Tigers, that hit me something. also, the movie was a bit inconsistent when it comes to AAA meetings, I know from having been to debt, that they don’t allow you to have relationships with people in the group.
- DirectorWilliam A. WellmanStarsHenry FondaDana AndrewsMary Beth HughesWhen a posse captures three men suspected of killing a local farmer, they become strongly divided over whether or not to lynch the men.A very simple, yet powerful film, about what happens when justice is allowed to run renegade. Henry Fonda shows himself to be a character with some conviction, but without the manpower to carry it off. He clearly believes in the innocence of the three men, yet can do nothing to stop the posse that has gathered to hang them all.
Anyone that has been accused wrongly and identify with this poor white man who can stop the goings-on for nothing - DirectorCorneliu PorumboiuStarsVlad IvanovCatrinel MarlonRodica LazarNot everything is as it seems for Cristi, a policeman who plays both sides of the law. Embarking with the beautiful Gilda on a high-stakes heist, both will have to navigate the twists and turns of corruption, treachery and deception.
- DirectorDanny BoyleStarsMichael FassbenderKate WinsletSeth RogenSteve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution, to paint a portrait of the man at its epicenter. The story unfolds backstage at three iconic product launches, ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac.Seen on Starlux flight to Taiwan. I dont enjoy getting people to dislike me, I am indifferent to their dislike. Never brought out his daughters sexual status, i had thought I read she was gay and he couldn't tolerate that. His partner (just found out not his wife), was a terrible money suck they way the movie portrayed here, and that Jobs didn't want to talk to his daughter after she allowed his former partner to sell the house he had bought for them.
- DirectorPablo LarraínStarsKristen StewartTimothy SpallSally HawkinsDiana Spencer, struggling with mental-health problems during her Christmas holidays with the Royal Family at their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England, decides to end her decade-long marriage to Prince Charles. What would have happened if Diana had decided to walk away from the "cold" world of her royal in laws, instead of staying till her demise in that Paris Tunnel. Whole thing came out rather unsympathetic to her, as she lived a life in the lap of luxury, and none of the royal family were ever really mean to her.
