Thoughts about Upcoming Netflix Projects
*Editing*
Netflix movies have been consistently bad this year, something of an added embarrassment as the previous year 'The Power of the Dog' was nominated for 12 oscars (I don't understand how quality could decline so quickly)
Ranking: Bad--> Mediocre--> Good--> Great
'Greats' on this List: The Sandman, The Girl in the Mirror, Blonde, Entergalatic, All Quiet on the Western Front, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, 1899, The Pale Blue Eye, Bardo, The School for Good and Evil, Dragon's Lair: The Movie, White Noise, The Wonder

- DirectorJoe RussoAnthony RussoStarsRyan GoslingChris EvansAna de ArmasWhen the CIA's most skilled operative, whose true identity is known to none, accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets, a psychopathic former colleague puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.(Investment= Good) Having not been a fan of any Netflix big budget films to date, I had little hope until I saw it was based on a book. The trailer didn't look very serious, so $200 million will be spent on some light fun probably best enjoyed in a group, nothing serious to take away or think about. Obviously will draw a huge audience though just through it's 'star power' like 'Murder Mystery', 'Red Notice' and 'The Adam Project'- not critic score or audience's word of mouth will help- just promotion and star power
- CreatorSteven MaedaMatt OwensStarsIñaki GodoyEmily RuddMackenyuIn a seafaring world, a young pirate captain sets out with his crew to attain the title of Pirate King, and to discover the mythical treasure known as 'One Piece.'(Investment= Good) I think this is a good investment, and judging by the set design has a fitting budget, and a great cast. Something to get manga/anime fans excited about
- DirectorElizabeth Allen RosenbaumStarsSofia CarsonNicholas GalitzineChosen JacobsIn spite of their many differences, Cassie, a struggling singer-songwriter, and Luke, a troubled Marine, agree to marry solely for military benefits, but when tragedy strikes, the line between real and pretend begins to blur.(Investment= Bad) Just like every other terrible romance for Netflix this year (along with: Love and Gelato, Persuasion, Through my Window, Hello Goodbye and Everything in-between)
- DirectorTom DeyStarsPallavi ShardaSuraj SharmaArianna AfsarPressured by their parents to find spouses, Asha and Ravi pretend to date during a summer of weddings, only to find themselves falling for each other.(Investment= Mediocre) At least this looks better than the other romances Netflix has put out this year
- CreatorNeil GaimanDavid S. GoyerAllan HeinbergStarsTom SturridgeBoyd HolbrookPatton OswaltUpon escaping after decades of imprisonment by a mortal wizard, Dream, the personification of dreams, sets about to reclaim his lost equipment.(Investment= Great) Great investment, incredibly popular and beloved graphic novel series. Neil Gaiman's work always translates well to film/tv
- DirectorJung Byung-gilStarsJoo WonKim Bo-MinLee Sung-jaeThrown straight into a dangerous mission with none of his memories intact, a man must escape death while trying to figure out who he is, how he ended up here, and who is the mysterious voice in his ear calling him "Carter"?(Investment= Good) With the K-wave still being strongly felt, I feel Netflix making right move investing in Korean TV/and movies. This at least looks to have a point of difference stylistically to other action movies, and Korean films don't ever seem to shy away from being too dark/ violent (e.g. Squid Game, Alice in Borderland) which is popular now
- DirectorJ.J. PerryStarsJamie FoxxDave FrancoNatasha Liu BordizzoA hard-working, blue-collar dad just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted 10-year-old daughter. His mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income: hunting and killing vampires.(Investment= Good) Another big budget Netflix film (approx. 100 mil) I think with Morbius, and now Blade and Salem's Lot coming soon- Netflix is definitely trying to bank on the emerging popularity of vampires again (and not the sparkly kind, but the gritty)
- DirectorTamra DavisStarsEli GoldenJosh PeckDebra MessingAfter his parents' divorce, Evan Goldman moves from NYC to small-town Indiana. As his 13th birthday nears, he must master the complex social circles of his new school and win friends by turning his Bar Mitzvah into the coolest party ever.(Investment= Bad) Trying to compete with Disney+'s 'Better Nate than Ever' even though that wasn't very popular (currently only 2.4k ratings)
- DirectorWanuri KahiuStarsLili ReinhartDanny RamirezAisha DeeOn the eve of her college graduation, Natalie's life diverges into parallel realities: one in which she becomes pregnant and remains in her hometown to raise her child and another in which she moves to LA to pursue her dream career.(Investment= Good) The rise of the "Sliding Doors" trope is popular again, makes sense
- CreatorSergio G. SánchezStarsMireia OriolÁlex VillazánPol MonenAfter losing her memory in a bizarre accident that kills most of her classmates, Alma tries to unravel what happened that day and regain her identity.(Investment= Great) Great investment Sergio G. Sánchez's work always creates a lasting/haunting impression- a great way to create buzz, especially with all the morbid twists and turns his stories usually takes. Sure to generate lots of word of mouth promotion (similar to the excitement of 'Squid Game')
- DirectorBabak AnvariStarsAntonio AakeelAlicia Ambrose-BaylyPercelle AscottFollows a young graffiti artist who discovers a shocking secret that would put him and the ones closest to him in danger.(Investment= Mediocre) Fantastic cast, but the director has created mediocre content for the platform before, and straight to streaming Thrillers tend to be terrible
- DirectorJohn HamburgStarsKevin HartMark WahlbergRegina HallWhen a stay-at-home dad who dedicates all his time to his children is persuaded to take time off for himself, he gets mixed up in the wild shenanigans of his childhood friend who's celebrating his 44th birthday.(Investment= Mediocre) Has star power to draw in audience, but not as interesting concept as the other big Netflix films (e.g. "The Man from Toronto"), but no matter how bad probably will rocket to top of Netflix chart
- DirectorMark Steven JohnsonStarsKat GrahamTom HopperRaymond AblackA young woman takes a trip to romantic Verona, Italy, after a breakup, only to find that the villa she reserved was double-booked, and she'll have to share her vacation with a cynical British man.(Investment= Mediocre) Another typical, cliche romance from Netflix, mimicking romance stories people don't even like (better to take example from 'One Day'- something with a higher concept- than these movies zero effort was put into creatively). Unlike other streaming services that have taken advantage of popular book series (e.g. Normal People) that actually has some depth
- DirectorAndrew DominikStarsAna de ArmasLily FisherJulianne NicholsonThe story of American actress Marilyn Monroe, covering her love and professional lives.(Investment= Great) Take advantage of the popularity of biopics, especially coming off the back of "Elvis". Marilyn deserves a story that showcases her depth (not just an image to be commercialised like Warhol's soup-can). I'm sick of seeing her image splashed across objects like she wasn't a real person, and Joyce Carol Oates' story can hopefully give her the respect and sympathy she deserves
- DirectorFletcher MoulesStarsKid CudiJessica WilliamsLaura HarrierJabari, a charming, streetwear-clad artist on the cusp of real success. After a chance run-in with his cool new photographer neighbor, Meadow, Jabari has to figure out whether he can make space for love in his life.(Investment= Great)
- CreatorRafal JakiStarsZach AguilarKagga JaysonKenichiro OhashiA Street Kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an Edgerunner, a Mercenary outlaw also known as a Cyberpunk.(Investment= Good)
- CreatorMike FlanaganLeah FongStarsIman BensonIgby RigneyRuth CoddAt a hospice for terminally ill young adults, eight patients come together every night at midnight to tell each other stories - and make a pact that the next of them to die will give the group a sign from the beyond.(Investment= Good)
- DirectorHenry SelickStarsLyric RossKeegan-Michael KeyJordan PeeleTwo scheming demon brothers, Wendell and Wild, enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot to summon them to the Land of the Living.(Investment= Mediocre)
- DirectorMatthew WarchusStarsAlisha WeirEmma ThompsonLashana LynchAn adaptation of the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical. Matilda tells the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination, dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results.(Investment= Good)
- DirectorEdward BergerStarsFelix KammererAlbrecht SchuchAaron HilmerA young German soldier's terrifying experiences and distress on the western front during World War I.(Investment= Great)
- StarsBrandon RouthLexi DiBenedettoSeries focusing on the Planeswalkers, Magic's unique magic-wielding heroes and villains, as they contend with stakes larger than any one world can hold.(Investment= Good)
- CreatorMike ArnoldJohn EddiePriscilla PresleyStarsMatthew McConaugheyKaitlin OlsonJohnny KnoxvilleElvis trades in his jumpsuit for a jetpack when he joins a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country.(Investment= Mediocre)
- DirectorJohan RenckStarsAdam SandlerCarey MulliganPaul DanoHalf a year into his solo mission on the edge of the solar system, an astronaut concerned with the state of his life back on Earth is helped by an ancient creature he discovers in the bowels of his ship.(Investment= Good)
- StarsZoe SaldanaEugenio MastrandreaDanielle DeadwylerAn artist finds romance with a chef in Italy and embarks on a life-changing journey of love, loss, resilience and hope across cultures and continents.(Investment= Good)
