- DirectorMatt ReevesStarsRobert PattinsonZoë KravitzJeffrey WrightWhen a sadistic serial killer begins murdering key political figures in Gotham, The Batman is forced to investigate the city's hidden corruption and question his family's involvement.10/10
A Masterpiece pure and simple. It's the Batman by way of Se7en. I couldn't be happier. Dark, brooding. Brilliant!
The Dark Knight is still the number one Batman movie though. - DirectorDavid Gordon GreenStarsJamie Lee CurtisAndi MatichakJames Jude CourtneyThe saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode comes to a spine-chilling climax in the final installment of this trilogy.7/10
Oh shit! This is gonna be a whole thing.
First of all, read the reviews from variety and the Hollywood reporter and sevor their contempt and condescending bile for not only this film but the entire franchise (except for the original because that's snark proof now, even though plenty of these fucking cumscums predecessors shit on it back in the day)
But don't you worry guys I'm sure some AfricanAsianJewishMuslim transsexual will make a film about gay porn in the Middle East that you can loose your shit over and all will be right with the world again.
(please understand when I write shit like this that I'm not some MAGA cunt, I more or less subscribe to the Bill Mahers of the world)
Now! Is this Halloween 78 resurrected? Fuck no! Not even close. But I will go out on a line here and say this is probably my favorite entry in this particular trilogy... Here's why. This movie establishes characters and mood pretty effectively, the overall narrative is somewhat streamlined and it's not afraid to be weird (even if it's just a fucking remake of Christine) and most importantly I was never bored during an almost 2 hour runtime.
Sorry for prattling on endlessly but I'm one of the biggest Halloween fans out there and I take this shit extremely serious.
Perhaps TOO serious for my own good, which is why a diatribe like this just gushes out.
Anyways Happy Halloween everyone. - DirectorRobert EggersStarsAlexander SkarsgårdNicole KidmanClaes BangA young Viking prince is on a quest to avenge his father's murder.9/10
Thoughly enjoyable slice of viking mayhem. I had a few beers in the Cinema and that proved to be a winning combination. - DirectorRob JabbazStarsBerant ZhuRegina LeiYing-Ru ChenA young couple trying to reunite amid a city ravaged by a plague that turns its victims into deranged, bloodthirsty sadists.9/10
Oh gore glorious gore. I'd been waiting eons for this particular feature and happily it did not disappoint.
It’s nightmarish, gory mayhem all the way. - DirectorDavid Blue GarciaStarsSarah YarkinElsie FisherMark BurnhamAfter 48 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorize a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.6/10
As a follow up to the seminal 1974 original it's a horrid mess, saddled with a ridiculous story and goofy characters.
But I'm a gorehound, and that element is turned up to the max, plus it's nicely directed and features a good looking Leatheface. - DirectorJoel CoenStarsDenzel WashingtonFrances McDormandAlex HassellA Scottish lord becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife supports him in his plans of seizing power.7/10
A very effective take on the Bard's text, featuring stunning acting and cinematography. Still. We've seen it all before. - DirectorGoran StolevskiStarsNoomi RapaceAnamaria MarincaAlice EnglertIn an isolated mountain village in 19th century Macedonia, a young girl is kidnapped and then transformed into a witch by an ancient spirit.7/10
Arthouse take of a young witch's strife finding her footing in the world, is certainly worth checking out if you like slow-burn oddities. - DirectorScott DerricksonStarsMason ThamesMadeleine McGrawEthan HawkeAfter being abducted and locked in a basement, a boy starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer's previous victims.5/10
I loved the 70s setting and I could watch Hawk' Grabber all day. But the film is seriously compromised by questionable dialog and supernatural nonsense. - DirectorTom GormicanStarsNicolas CagePedro PascalTiffany HaddishMoviestar Nick Cage is channeling his iconic characters as he's caught between a superfan and a CIA agent.6/10
Fluffy meta feature plays it way too safe to fully satisfy. For Cage fans though, it's a mildly entertaining watch. - DirectorDavid BrucknerStarsOdessa A'zionJamie ClaytonAdam FaisonA young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites.5/10
While it's certainly nice to have the cenobites back on screen, would it have been too much to ask for someone to write an honest to goodness screenplay, instead of the dumb down drivel that's presented here, which honestly wouldn't amount to 50% content if scribbled on a bar napkin... The new Hell Priest is great though. - DirectorDavid LeitchStarsBrad PittJoey KingAaron Taylor-JohnsonFive assassins aboard a swiftly-moving bullet train find out that their missions have something in common.4/10
Smug, self-satisfied beat 'em up is a bundle of hysterics that grows more tedious by the minute. Makes John Wick look like an Ingmar Bergman creation.
Gets an extra star for Michael Shannon. - DirectorMickey KeatingStarsJocelin DonahueJoe SwanbergRichard BrakeAfter receiving a mysterious letter, a woman travels to a desolate island town and soon becomes trapped in a nightmare.6/10
Beautifully crafted but slow-moving film. It's a bit hit and miss. - DirectorBenjamin LouisStarsTony ToddSteffani BrassDavid GridleyThree college students filming a horror movie find themselves trapped in their own worst nightmare. Their only hope for survival is two detectives who find the camera they left behind.2/10
Awful no-budgeted shitshow. Don't waist your time. - DirectorSamuel Gonzalez Jr.Bridget SmithStarsMichael LombardiMarc MenchacaJoseph GattAn upstanding pastor uncovers a dark and twisted underworld as he searches for answers surrounding his daughter's brutal murder.6/10
Silly mixup of revenge exploitation and People Under the Stairs like zombie film, is never less than watchable and features plenty of gory violence. - DirectorRussell OwenStarsTom HughesKate DickieGreta ScacchiA young Scottish shepherd, following the death of his unfaithful wife, fights to maintain his own sanity when the past catches up to him.5/10
Atmospheric but extremely slow moving film represent an ok watch if you can appreciate that sort of thing. - DirectorMaggie GyllenhaalStarsOlivia ColmanJessie BuckleyDakota JohnsonA woman's beach vacation takes a dark turn when she begins to confront the troubles of her past.7/10
An incredibly tense, nerve-wracking film that sadly Peter's out at the end. Still an excellent starting point for its director Gyllenhaal. - DirectorMatt Bettinelli-OlpinTyler GillettStarsNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid Arquette25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past.4/10
Too meta for my taste. But if you like the series its not the worst. - DirectorDan TrachtenbergStarsAmber MidthunderDakota BeaversDane DiLiegroNaru, a skilled warrior of the Comanche Nation, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.7/10
When I initially viewed this I was somewhat inebriated and in a foul mood. As a huge fan of the series, I thought it only right to give it a second chance with sober eyes. And boy am I glad I did. The action is awesome, the Predator looks great and we're introduced to a kickass heroine and her amazing canine.
Still the wildlife CG is really lacking and I would have liked a more streamlined narrative. - DirectorTi WestStarsMia GothJenna OrtegaBrittany SnowIn 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the crew find themselves fighting for their lives.9/10
Brilliant slasher, proving you can employ gore and nudity as a tool, without sacrificing character or story. - DirectorAndrew DominikStarsAna de ArmasLily FisherJulianne NicholsonThe story of American actress Marilyn Monroe, covering her love and professional lives.7/10
You know how there is films you know exactly how you feel about the minute the endcredits roll... This is not one of those films.
The film is exquisitely made, bringing to mind the wild and reckless cinema of Oliver Stone in the 90s (JFK, Nixon) with just a soupçon of David Lynch' Mulholland Drive to really drive home the nightmarish effect.
But It also have this strange artificiality, running through it, that at times can come across as off-putting.
I'll definitely need a second viewing in the future.
All I can say for now is I really respect it. - DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsViggo MortensenLéa SeydouxKristen StewartHumans adapt to a synthetic environment, with new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice, Saul Tenser, celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances.7/10
While not peak Cronenberg, it's still an immense pleasure to experience the master revisiting his old stomping ground of body horror.
There's a lot to digest here and I enjoyed it. - DirectorJoe RussoAnthony RussoStarsRyan GoslingChris EvansAna de ArmasWhen the CIA's most skilled operative, whose true identity is known to none, accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets, a psychopathic former colleague puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.7/10
Regardless of a weak script and some surprisingly dodgy CG, the film is ultimately never less than watchable. That's in large part a credit to the actors - and a few impressive action packed setpieces - there's a reason these people are moviestars. - DirectorAdam StilwellStarsAndrea LondoShawn AshmoreJane BadlerA possessed young woman struggles to return to her own reality.7/10
I enjoyed this immensely. Too bad not many others seemed to. Oh well. - DirectorEmily BennettJustin BrooksStarsEmily BennettEmma MylesDarcy CadmanAs a young woman painstakingly prepares a romantic homecoming for her girlfriend, their apartment begins to feel more like a tomb when voices, shadows, and hallucinations reveal a truth she has been unwilling to face.6/10
Decent microbudged chiller, manages to conjure up a subtle Silent Hill vibe. - DirectorRich RagsdaleStarsScout Taylor-ComptonNolan Gerard FunkDeborah Kara UngerA devoted couple's quiet weekend takes a bizarre turn when a nightmarish cult and their maniacal leader come to fulfill an apocalyptic prophesy.4/10
This feature has surprisingly little going for it, dispite the awesome get-up and masks of the antagonists.
